Trazodone ????????????

Quote From: pped39

Does anyone out there ever have problems getting up in the middle of the night and craving sweets?  I have been doing this for years, until about 6 months ago when my doctor perscribed trazodone?  I asked for something to help me sleep and to stay asleep not realizing that I had this eating problem at night and now everything is clicking together.  In the six months that I have  taken this sleeping pill, I have maybe gotton up twice to eat.

I don't weigh myself, but I know I have lost weight because of how clothes fit and people often tell me it looks like I've lost weight.

I don't really like to rely on medication, but if it works then I'm taking it

Hi,

I just started taking trazodone 100mg, yesterday. As of this morning I felt like I was ran over by a truck !!!!! Of course the nurse said to take it for at least 2 weeks to see full effects. I was hoping for a "rested feeling once" when I get up in the morning. My problem is "hot-flashes" when trying to sleep. Wake up every 30 minutes!!!!!

I would like to invite you to visit Dr. Phil's bipolar message board (if you already have, I apologize...I'm very bad with names).

There are a lot of people posting to that board...it is the busiest board among the ones that I've visited.

It is under the heading Mental Health Issues and then under the heading Bipolar Disorder.

Hope to see you over on the bipolar board.

Also, please read my previous message...I've learned over the years (I'm 45) that you have to be very assertive to get what you want and need when it comes to referrals.  Sleep disorders are REAL and should be treated.  Also, sleep disorders are common with Bipolar Disorder, and the lack of proper sleep can really mess with the moods!!

Good Luck,

Becky

I know it's been oct. since you wrote and maybe you went to the bi-polar board so I'll try there next. I had a really bad time about 2years ago with chronic fatigue syndrome and lupis. It sounds like with your med backround these are quite possible. For the CFS get atest for the epstein barr virus.People who have had mono are suseptable.Good Luck!

I have a sleeping problem... I cant go to sleep for at least 2 hrs after I lay down. Then when I get to sleep I wake up at least 2 or 3 times. I dont eat after 9. When its morning i am so exhausted I cant hardly get up... Any suggestions??? I have taken Lunesta at the strongest dose but that worked to make me sleep but only for a couple hours. Now it doesnt make me sleepy. Just kinda hyper actually....Need some advice. this has went on for about 2/3 yrs...tired

There are over 200 sleep disorders out there that can disrupt sleep and make you tired during the day.  Ask your family doc for a referral to a sleep specialist.

I have Narcolepsy, for which Provigil works very well.  My oldest son also has Narcolepsy.  My husband has Restless Leg Syndrome and Sleep Apnea, and our two younger boys both have Restless Leg Syndrome.

I have already left detailed messages on this board about our family's sleep issues, if you care to page back and read them....Becky

You sound like me... Unfortunately, I don't really  have answers.  My doctor suggested a sleep study, but when I found out how much it cost, I turned it down.

However, I recently started on Strattera, which is a non-stimulant for ADD, and it has worked miracles.  It still takes me roughly an hour to fall asleep, I still wake up about 2 times a night, but that's compared to taking roughly 2 horus to fall asleep and waking up more than 2 times a night, and I feel that the sleep I get is much sounder.  I also feel more relaxed the whole time I am lying in bed, trying to fall asleep.

But the big difference is that I have daytime energy, which I never used to have, even when a sleep aid worked (over the counter sleep aids had no effect, Trazodone kept me up all night, and amitryptaline worked somewhat.)  I still don't have near as much energy as my 52-year old mom, but still, it's amazing to reach 8 pm and still be able to concentrate.

However, my body has a high tolerance for drugs, and after 2 months on 80 mg of Strattera, it stopped working, so I upped the dosage to 100 mg, but am wary that I will grow tolerant of it again soon....

I've had my insomnia/fatigue for well over ten years, the first time I saw a doctor (in high school), she thought I was depressed; I didn't see one again about it till about a year ago; she too thought I might be depressed and recommended me to a psychologist, who didn't really think I was depressed, but couldn't figure anything else out, I brought up that I may be ADD, though I don't have too many of those symptoms either.

Once again, Strattera has been a mini life-saver, although I don't know how long it'll work, and I still wish that one day I could have the energy of a 27-year old--or wake up feeling refreshed.  I've never woken up and felt well-rested, but I heard that that's possible!

So that's my suggestion, and I welcome any others!  I don't have the symptoms of sleep apnea (no snoring or waking up feeling out of breath), and as exhausted as I get, I cannot fall asleep during the day, so it's not narcolepsy...

hi i also have sleep apnea. i took the sleep test just about 2 months ago. gave dr all my problems and he said lets try this.. and sure enough thats been my problem..he said if that was problem it would be life changing..and it sure has been.   i sleep all night now and i dont have headaches when i wake up i feel much better. i still have RLS but not as often..my pain level had dropped and thats been great.. i know its one of the best things i could do for myself and my hubby lol he dont have to hear me snorring anymore. i was worse then some men.  so if you can do the study it sure is worth it to find out if thats most of your problems..( not getting enough air in the body) good luck and dont stop asking your dr for help till they find out whats wrong. took my dr over a year to figure mine out.

Sleep problems

I have suffered with not being able to get sleep and stay asleep for a long time. Until: They came out with the new XR sleeping aids. I take all of my meds at bed time. Anti depressents sleeping aids. I take them about 9:00pm and I am asleep by 11:30.

The XRs are time released. And has helped me get to sleep and I do not wake every few hours any more and keeps me from feeling anxious the net day.

I hope this will help. So ask your Doctor if it is some thing that may work for                                            Love and peace within you all !
