You have said it all...."I really need to stop drinking".  If you really believe that you are drinking too much, chances are you are right.  If you need a test...try not drinking for 30 days.  If you can't do so, then you need to address your drinking right away.

As for your pain meds....if your pain meds aren't really helping your pain, and if you experience any sort of euphoria from taking them, then you need to quit taking them.  But to take pain meds and to drink to excess is a very dangerous combination.

As for your psych meds, you MUST take them as prescribed or you will find yourself on a mental roller coaster.  I say this from experience and it is not a pleasant ride.

You say you don't want to be put "on paper" as an alcoholic or addict, but you don't seem to mind being one.  I think most people would prefer to deal with someone who is fighting addiction than one who is giving in to addiction.  But don't make the mistake of grouping your addiction issues with your "abnormal psychology" issues....that sounds as if you are rationalizing your situation and that is a dangerous way to look at a very harsh reality.

I say all of this with love and compassion....believe me...I have had many experiences with family members who have fought alcohol, pain meds and mental issues.  But you have an advantage over all of them....you have recognized your symptoms and you have most likely made a correct assumption.  That is the first step and it is the most difficult step.  But the good news is that you have already ackowledged it and can now start your journey to recovery.

Please stay in touch and if you need anything at all, please feel free to let me know.

Take care,

Debbie
I forgot to add one more point.  Pain meds for back spasms???  Just how is that supposed to help the source of the problem.  It merely covers up what may be a situation that is fixable or worse, covers up the symptoms of something that may be more severe.  But I think you know in your heart that the pain meds aren't the answer and you really need to address your dependence on them

Once again I don't mean to sound preachy.  I am merely mirroring what I think you already know.

TAKE BACK YOUR POWER

Here a condensed hand out from Dr. Richards 20 tape series for people suffer from social anxiety.  I purchased the tape series and my son who had suffered from generalized anxiety disorder overcame his GAD after 40 years of terror and fear. This tape series has literally saved his life. Before using the tapes his greatest wish was to go to sleep and never wake up. He thought about suicide every day for many years as this illness had totally devastated his life.  He now looks forward to each day and the future.

                                                     Worry

Worry is never positive. It never does any good.

                            Worry always exaggerates

It always blows things out of proportion and Consumes my life.

It leaves a trail of anxiety and depression behind it.

Worrying only leads to more worry.

Worrying never solves a thing.  There is no solution in worry.

I must catch myself when I start to worry and throw off these thoughts because they are poison.

Say to myself: "Worry never does me any good.  It is only going to hurt me

Then, go and do something to distract myself.

                                                POWER STATEMENTS

(Rational Questions to ask myself each day)

WHY SHOULD OTHER PEOPLE'S APPROVAL MATTER TO ME?

WHY SHOULD I BE DEPENDENT ON OTHER PEOPLE'S VIEWS OF ME?

WHY DO OTHER PEOPLE HAVE ANY POWER OVER ME?

WHY SHOULD MY OWN THOUGHTS HURT ME?

THEY can NEVER tell me the TRUTH

so, ask myself these questions every day.

WHY DO I ALLOW OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS TO SWAY ME?

Why SHOULD other people's approval be important to me?  Why should I stew, and drive myself

crazy over what other people think and say?

I need to rationally ask myself these questions each and every day, so that these questions will

bounce into my mind when my thoughts start to go negative on me.

I want those "WHY" questions to pop into my mind automatically, so that I catch those

old automatic negative feelings and thoughts.

The more I question my irrational thoughts, the more they will have to go away.

The key to success using this is to read it OUT LOUD every day.  In the beginning your brain will not accept this information, but over time your brain will be reprogrammed to accept these new true beliefs instead of the old false beliefs of the past.

NOTE:  If you wish more info. on how to get these tapes E-mail me  at:       rowdens@shaw.ca

I will post another condensed hand out for you to work with.  Good luck.

I really hope that you saw my apology to you.  It got removed soon after I posted it and I was so sad that perhaps you didn't see it.  I wasn't talking about you....I was defending you as well as the people on the board that also came to your defense.  I understand if you don't wish to be friends but I just wanted you to know that I would never hurt you and have always looked up to you and your progress.

Just thought I'd give it one more shot.....

To All

I am very SAD that our Fellow poster Beachsmiles  (SEA)  will no longer be posting here....I know she will not.  Please do not ask me how because I will not nor cannot tell you how but I know this to be a true fact.  She was such an inspiration to me when I first came here so many months back and well lets just say today is a very sad day.  For the newcomber she provided a wealth of information and always kept us all well informed.

Our message board angel is hurting so bad....I wish she would come back....But she will not..
