Reality TV just got a reality check! This season, Dr. Phil moves people into The Dr. Phil House – where he can keep an eye on them 24/7. He will be watching from his home, his office and his car, and won’t hesitate to drop in whenever he chooses. The first family to move in is Todd and Jessica, married for eight years, and their three sons. Todd and Jessica have filed restraining orders against each other, were throwing knives, calling the cops and cussing each other out in front of the kids. Their fights have even gotten physical and have involved the children. Before moving into the house, Todd and Jessica were living apart. Jessica says Todd is stalking her, and Todd says his wife is having an affair. Will living under the same roof again finally bring them together? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

the shock factor

Quote From: magsbonline

Today's show was a shock to me. Like most viewers I was shocked by the family, their abusive behaviour and dysfunction. But even moreso, I was shocked that Dr. Phil would profile such a sensationalist case. This family should not be on the show; they should be in serious therapy behind closed doors. It's a very unpleasant and extreme family dynamic to view. And I'm shocked by the more assertive, louder, more intense Dr. Phil I'm seeing this season. It's disconcerting to me and off-putting. Please Dr. Phil, choose cases that provide some resonance for us viewers, so we can appreciate and even apply your more typical passionate and compassionate advice.
Believe it or not they are alot of families out here like that one. yes that one is extreme, but they probably weren't always that way. Maybe showing what could happen will make some people think about their behaviour before they get to that point. maybe they will put Dr. Phil's and strategies to use to prevent this situation. the shock factor is what makes people pay attention. And these people need dr. phil up in their face loud and strong.

55 and older

Quote From: justmedmp

When will you do a show about age discrimination?  You know we are the largest group of people living in America today.  but nobody at this time is seeing us,  When will the hiring public see us.  We don't have great computer skills.  That was just ahead of  us.  We all thought we would have the $50.00 per hour jobs and make a way for our kids.  But it was a fool Paradise. No one could tell us that we won't be the best because we are and we knew it.  Now at this time of my life and it will catch up with all of those who don't plan to do it right which will be 97% of the American people, even those who have it all.  Get financial advise get help planning for the future and Dr Phil you need to stop helping those who will break any and give some sound advise to those who really are doing it right.  My war  cry is I did it Right.  I'm not on Montel, Jerry, Morrey or even Dr Phil why, because I don't garner ratings..  If we had more people who did it right, OK helping people is good I agree but I did it right, sent my daughter to school, (no student loans) didn't do drugs (like to drink beer) worked every day, sometimes 3 or 4 jobs, but nobody allowed me to receive a new car (not that I need one Have a 2003 Jaguar Paid for) but don't we ever get rewarded just for doing it right??All my friends had kids who didn't end up in jail or have babies or get killed.  One day I hope this message gets out.  THOSE WHO DID IT RIGHT NEED A PAT ON THE BACK ALSO.  Maybe you could be that person who just would like to have their show give it (don't get me wrong I applaud you because you do for the most part  see the good in people.  But so many shows  across the country don't act like America is why people fight to get here and die to stay.

I agree with you and have sent e-mails to Dr. Phil and Robin about it.  WE have done it right also and we have a happy, supportive, loving marriage, 4 great young adults, and 4 grandchildren that are all to be proud of.  My husband and I worked our butts off to pay the bills and get the kids through school (one is handicapped) and we are PROUD of all of them!  Are we PERFECT?  No, no one is but we sure try hard to treat others with respect (on the road, in a store, etc.) and teach good manners.  What happened to "please and thank you" instead of "cussing and shrugging?"  We are here on earth to learn and every day is a new chance to do just that.  By the way---WE are proud of you!!!

Try being their neighbors

Quote From: nichmania

Try being their neighbors......
Thank goodness we are NOT their neighbors!!  Had a couple like that for a few months and finally the husband left and got put in jail and she got evicted.  Having the cops show up all the time for their fights was awful!!!  We like our quiet neighborhood, thank you.

Obviously the wife IS full of B.S. and the hubby Is an obsessive jerk.  Why don't the folks head their seperate ways (any way, as long as it's not in my direction) and leave those poor boys in the Dr.Phil house for much needed R&R and some therapy

Are you kidding me!

Quote From: jtberndt

Well I am Todd in the show , and I will assure you knives were not thrown, they were hunting knives in there leather sheeths . And the restraining orders were for completely differant reasons, just watch the show, it will be 4 parts over a period of time . It was a lot of filming so I hope you all enjoy it !!

They were hunting knives in their leather sheeths!!  Please tell me you're joking! As if that justifies it or makes it O.K !?! Now I know you need Dr. Phil. Todd, I give you credit for truly wanting to work on your marriage and taking the initiative to call Dr. Phil, but COME ON!

Dr. Phil probably has told or will tell you this very soon, but STOP EXCUSING AND START OWNING!

Are you saying that you deserve a hearty pat on the back, just for living your life right, for being ( I assume) a good person and for making the right choices???  When did the world start handing out awards just for showing up??  We are certainly fostering this culture by the notion that children should not compete, but that everyone ought to get the same trophy or ribbon, whether they sucked or not.  Everyone wants his or her 15 minutes of fame and we idolize miserable wastes of space like Paris Hilton, for being ignorant, crass, and sleazy (how does she put millions of $$$$$ on an ugly little dog, when people are starving, and still sleep at night????!!!!!).  Sorry people, noone needs hero biscuits just for living their lives.

You as their neighbor

Quote From: nichmania

Try being their neighbors......

You as their neighbor, I do hope that you were part of the solution and not a silent part of the problem.

Domestic abuse is everyone's business.

The police should have been called.

Thankfully they are in the Dr. Phil house and those children will get the help that they so desperately need.

Was the issue the noise ?        Or did you realize that the family was in crisis?

Did you and the other neighbors realize that someone could have ended up dead?

It's not uncommon for abusers to explain things away.

The patterns of  lieing, denying, justifying and minimizing are common.

A rewriting of history , if you will.
