(Original Air Date: 09/20/06) Have you ever wanted revenge on an ex-lover? How far would you go? First, look inside a legal battle that has been brewing all summer. Tasha, creator of the Web site DontDateHimGirl.com, says her site is a public forum for women to share their dating experiences and tell the "truth" about their exes. Todd says false information about him was posted on Tasha's site, and he thinks she should be liable for the negative posts. He has filed a lawsuit against her and two of the women who posted. When they face off for the first time, who does Dr. Phil think is right? Then, Ashley found out her boyfriend, Corey, had cheated on her three times during their 10-month relationship. Now, she says she wants to get revenge by exposing him to the world. So why did she recently call Corey and beg for sex? And, Corey comes clean with Ashley and tells her how he really feels. Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Hey Irish Dude,

I understand such a site is in the works, so keep googling for it. I think it is great and many women I read on sites have written they think it is great too.

We support the nice guys.

Childish bickering

Quote From: loviva

TASHA COULDN'T KEEP QUIET FOR ONE SECOND!! THE MOMENT THAT TODD OPENED HIS MOUTH, SHE WOULD JUST FLY IN WITH ALL SORTS OF ACCUSATIONS & DEFENSES - WHO COULD HEAR HIS SIDE OF THE STORY!? DR. PHIL DIDN'T ASK HER TO KEEP QUIET - NOT EVEN ONCE!! - SO THAT TODD COULD FINISH HIS SENTENCE. YOU ARE THE ONE BEING BIASED - DON'T ACCUSE DR PHIL!!

Even though I am a woman and I think there are a lot of worthless men out there, I would never stoop to putting disgusting information in a public place about them.  Isn't that a bit like men writing things about women in the men's room?  It is just gross. I also did not care for Tasha's smirk which was seen repeatedly during the broadcast.  She constantly interrupted and tried to talk over Todd, and that just is not a civilized way to approach any issue.

Dr. Phil is generally right on, in my book.  Perhaps he didn't intervene so that Tasha could cook her own goose by showing her lack of tact at mediation.

Be morally responsible, at least, Tasha

Hopefully Dr. Phil took Tasha aside after the show and offered her therapy.  She obviously has issues that need exploring, let's start with the bitterness in her heart.  I hope she has a change of mind and finds a positive way to use her cyber talents.  I hope the judge assigns punitive damages and orders her to perform community service.  A good idea would be to take the money earned from her slanderous, poisonous website and donate it to a charity.  (oh wait, she said she didn't earn any profit...yeah, right...I guess she thinks everyone just fell off the turnip truck).  Her actions are outrageously irresponsible.

Ultimate Effect

Todd has every right to be upset. Todd needs to sue his ex-girl friend for slander, punitive, and compencitory,as well as the site dontdatehimgirl.com, which needs to be shut down. This horrible, damaging, and one sided. If the girl being dumped doesn't have a friend to talk to, for her to vent and  to get the hurt out, then she needs to get theropy. Maybe Todd saw something in that woman and realize she has issues and didn't want to deal with it. That is his choice. One thing that the ex and web site should realize, "it takes two to tango". The web site lady needs to get a life. I'm sure Todd can get a web site saying dontdateherman.com . Words can be very powerful and have damaging effects that can play an ultimate role of ones life.

Todd, your doing thing and I wish you good luck.

The REAL Problem is:

Bashing people is not new, despite the forum it is presented in.  Here is the problem with this situation as I see it:  These women are publicly naming these people with the protection of anonymity!  If they were exposed themselves or the bashings were anonymous, I see no problem.  If the identities of the bashers was available, any injured parties could litigate without involving the site owner.  If the bashings were anonymous, then there is no injured party.

This man is suing the site because people are allowed to publicly name and bash people while being protected by the site owner, who is defending their anonymity.  This site is inciting people to to do these things, so this site is liable in civil court for participating in character assassination and defamation of character.  Since there is no law against what is happening with the website, which is the legal defense here, the site is defending itself in civil court with a criminal defense.

This guy is going to win this fight, hopefully.  Otherwise, all internet bashings will increase, intensify, and cause increasingly alarming harm to others, deserved or not.  If Dr. Phil reads this(doubtful), I urge you to contact a US Senator to create a law that prevents Website and Forum owners from encouraging this type of behavior.  It is as much an assault as any physical blow, and society needs to finally come to grips with verbal assault as a criminal act!

09/20 Revenge of the Exes

Quote From: noellskie

OMG are you kidding me! Regardless of whatever this guy has or has not done, what these women are doing is no different that what youth are doing online - only we call it CYBER BULLYING! This is the excatly one of the points I make in my thesis which is on the topic of cyber bullying. If a youth says something negative, hurtful or hateful against a peer it is labled as bullying, but yet were does this behaviour become acceptable ? Is it just because they are adults that they seem to think it is ok? I know Dr. Phil will set them straight on this. If we want our young people to treat others with respect online than we as adults need to set that example and not engage in and model the same behaviour we are telling them is not ok!

Dr. Phil I know you have my back on this don't you!

People are not seeing what this issue is about.  It is about our right to "Freedom of Speech on the Internet."

1.  The truth is 100% defense to libel. (as per the US Supreme Court)
2.  Tasha can not control what thousands of people post, nor can any webmaster or search engine.  Therefore, under the 1996 Communcations Decency Act, they are not liable.
3.  This is no different than a gossip column because no information can be guaranteed or verified.
4.  Tasha is fighting for women's rights for free speech on the internet, which is a First Amendment issue.  Do you all want the government to regulate what you can and can not post on the internet like they do in other countries?  If so, then we must first over turn or amend the First Amendment.
5.  How can women warn other women about pedophiles, abusers, cheaters, liars, etc... if they don't have a safe place to post?  Many of these women fear their abusers and only post because they know their identities will remain anonymous.

Tasha has my full support and even if she doesn't win the first round, she can appeal to a higher court.

If porn sites, escort sites, gambling sites, etc... are all allowed to function on the net, there should be no reason why a website such as hers should not be able to co-exist.

Stay strong Tasha.  There are thousands of us routing for you!!!

Tasha is an Embarrassment to Women

I hope that Todd will read these message boards because I wish to tell him this but could not find any other way to contact him. All I want to say is that women like Tasha are a complete embarrassment to all women & I truly commend Todd for stepping up and taking this issue all the way. The fact that he was abIe to sit across from that woman & maintain his composure as well as he did is admirable. I support him 100% and wish him the best of luck in his lawsuit...by stepping up to the plate on this issue, he has already made such a strong statement & I admire him for doing what so many would not have the courage to do. Good for you Todd & keep on fighting, you have my support & obviously the support of many others who are familiar with your fight.

Quote From: fourniermonic

I perfectly agree with you.. wow, I couldn't have said it better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Freedom of speech has it's rewards and downfalls. She needs to take the good with the bad. I am on Todd side. No way should information that is not true be allowed to be published. She should control what is said, and that names and pichures should not be posted.

Siding with the Gentleman

I think it is in bad taste to see how Tasha was treating him.  I believe he has  a ligitimate concern about the bad publicity no matter who wrote the messages.  I think that women do need a place to talk,  but I don't think names or pictures should be mentioned.  If it is a forum for women to vent,  NOT DESTROY, their cheating, lying, etc boyfriends, lovers,  or whatever you call them,  then names are not an issue.  Women, which I am one of them,  can be very emotional and if you write a rough draft then look at it a week later,  you will see that most of what you thought you wanted to say, is hurtful to you and to the man you are dogging.  Men and women alike, deserve compassion, understanding and most of all privacy.  How would she like it, if men did the same thing to women.   That would be his revenge.

Truth or consequences

I believe there is a law concerning defamation of character. If this website was used for legitimate grievances, and to warn the public of individuals who are a real threat and all the information was truthful, then it would be a very good service. However, Tasha’s website seems more for the purpose of venting by angry women.

I also find it interesting that she does not give equal opportunity to men who have been treated badly by women; and there are plenty of hateful women out there.

Free speech is good, but I set the boundaries when it comes to slandering someone publicly, especially if the accusations are false! Todd has every right to sue, but it should be his ex-girlfriend who made the statements. And although Tasha has no legal obligation concerning her website, her response to Todd tells me a lot about her own moral state. If I were a man looking to date a woman, she would be one I would avoid like the plague.

Advertisers are not allowed to make any misleading claims, so why is it that we can spew out lies about another person that could potentially ruin their life or career over a matter of personal relationship problems?
