I have a hard time getting used to new shoes...that's why I stick with the old ones until they have holes and are coming apart at the seams...

The thing that I have found the most helpful in wearing any shoes is to use orthotic shoe inserts.  I have a pair in every pair of shoes I own.  I make sure that I put the shoe inserts in the shoes that I am trying on to make sure thay they are comfortable with the inserts in place before I buy them.  I walk around the store a bit...if the shoes aren't attatched together, that is...but even that isnt' a guarantee that the shoes will be comfortable after wearing them all day.

I use the inserts for my knees...before the inserts, I had a lot of knee trouble...things have improved greatly since I started using them.

Do you do the calf stretches before and after exercise?  Also, a potassium supplement might be helpful...or just eat a lot of bananas...I think spinach has potassium too...not sure.  When you get the cramps, be sure to do more calf stretches...bend down and touch your toes, and sit with your legs straight and grab your toes and stretch your foot toward you...one leg at a time.  Also, put one leg behind you, and do some forward lunges with your heel on the ground.

I get calf cramps when I start hill training...which I had better get busy on...Cub Scout camp is coming soon, and everywhere at camp is uphill...even the downhill is up...LOL  I will be using my walking poles to give my arms a workout too...especially on the hills.

Well...gotta get going...lots on my schedule for today...Becky

I have a pair of expensive orthotic inserts from the last time.  They cost $350 ...  that's how bad it got the last time.

I don't play that "try them on and see how they fit" anymore more.  I buy the same brand, from the same store -- Sears.  I pay $50 for a pair of walking shoes.  I get 2 pairs a year.  I might have to buy 3 pairs now that I'm working on getting my exercise of walking in this summer!  I like New Balance.  Other shoes, even with my inserts, cause my heel spurs to act up.

Okay, Becky ... I got my REALAGE.COM newlsetter today and followed a link ...

a woman weight 150 #s burns 72 per every 30 minutes when they are doing laundry!   They do have a Exercise Estimator on their site, I was going to check it out .. figure out how many calories I burn sweeping floors at my weight. Isn't that cool!!  Vacuuming is 84 calories.

They even suggest that when you are washing dishes, you do standing pushups at the counter.  Isn' that neat!

Okay, I walked the dogs!

I took 2 ibropfen and walked the dogs 20 minutes!  And I just might pick up mom and take her to the Stockyard Stampede this evening.  That's another 30 minutes.  Good thing she has friends there cause I walk much faster than her.

And my calf is still stiff; however, I know that walking it out is how it gets better!

Ways to Exercise in the House

I just got a Fitness newsletter and they have a 15-minute abs workout using a medicine ball .. here's the site:

http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/abs/express/15-minutes-to-flatter-abs/?page=1

Didn't look too hard ... may do it myself, I bought myself a kids ball to exercise with .. it's not heavy; however, it's better for when I first start out ... Getting the movements right means I don't hurt myself.  hee hee

Thanks

Tuesday

Got weighed in at the gym and only 1.4 lbs since 4/8.  Not too bad.

Today is swimming practice and tonite is dance practice.  I wish I didn't have to go to the studio to be able to practice at home; however, the want is there, just not the "energy & focus" to interrupt my life to add it.  Keep hearing myself say .. I'm SO BUSY!!  but it's not true!  I do have the time.  So I'm going to head to the studio 1x a week until I can begin practicing at home.

Hope everyone is doing well.  I'm feeling really "rushed" with my calendar getting so busy.  It's just me adjusting to work.  Today, I realized I have all sorts of "adjustments" occuring .. yardwork, dance, new job, and I'm not sure what else.  Those come quickly to my head actually.

Take care and hope everyone is doing okay.

Wednesday

I walked the 1.5 mile walk at NASA today with my walking partner with Celebral Palsy.  It's her 2nd year!  I'm so proud of her!  I suggested we walk in the street and she got really upset .. but ended up doing it anyway. Only had 2 rude people that stopped traffic. Even their security didn't say a word to us. It was just awesome.  I really do make her step outside her boundaries. She also joined the Y and takes their water-jogging class and has been able to move her legs more.

Took us over an hour; however, we did it.  I'm just so proud of her and all her accompllishments!!

That's great!
Tonite I went to swimming alone and I focused on that darn "red" line.  I finally realized Tuesday or Wednesday that when I approach or see the red line I become afraid.  I asked myself what the fear was about and allowed my thoughts to flow.  Turns out memoires of my first swimming lessons were based on NOT going over that line because the water was really deep and T, my instructor, would yell.

Well, I'm in level 4 and that means I've learned to move pass that.  It's just so neat!!  I have practice on Saturday and I plan on practicing again!  I know that I'm going to do so much better now.

AND!!  They loaned me the Red Cross Swimming video that shows all the movements.  As someone who learns better when I can see it up close and personal, I can now do that!!  It will be so cool!!!

Tomorrow, I'm finally home for the day.  I'm going to walk the dogs in the morning, then mow my grass and then do some yardwork!  Sunday, I plan on taking my hedges down to 6'.  It's going to be hard work, but I can do it!  I know I can!!!  I'm not going to do the sides at all.  Just the tops and as I have 2 city lots and that means I have a lot of hedges to trim back down to a reasonable size!

Friday

I caught Dr. Phil's BIkini Boot Camp show.  It was strange.  I felt sad that once again, I wouldn't be doing a happy dance because I finally lost my weight .. I'm still working thru the reasons I'm not eating healthy all the time.  That's one of the things I've discovered along the way, I can focus for a while and then have to let it go. 12-weeks is a good time for me now.  I'm able to just do it for 12 weeks now.  Maybe this time, I'll go a lot further.  June 1st is still a week away so I am still working out my goals.

Today, I decided to finally just cut down my hedges to 4' - they're at 10 or more.  They're just too much for me .. and will open me to the world.  It's like an awakening experience for me.

After Dr. Phil's show, I mowed my lawn. It only took me 30 minutes this time. It's getting easier and easier for me to do it.  I figure that tomorrow it may rain and I couldn't wait to do it any more.  The ground was finally dry enough that it made it easy for me.

Tomorrow, it's swimming practice -- and I'm going to my mom's for her "get together" and then I'll come home and do 1-2 small tasks on my YW to do list.  Today was day 1 of my 4-day focus. It's supposed to rain on Monday and I plan on pulling weeds when the ground is wet.  It should work out just fine!

Saturday

Did 10 laps!  started to watch the swimming video with my girlfriend and I really do want to re-tape it.  I sure hope I can do it.

Tomorrow, I'm going to do some yardwork and then finish my work task so I can drop it off on Wednesday morning.  That will make me feel good.  Maybe, he'll have another one I can do.

I checked with IRS and my refund won't be coming until June 20th.  That's awesome actually!
