Scouting

Quote From: grandmashari

Have a great time at cub scout camp.  I spent 12 years as a leader for both the boy scouts and the girl scouts.  Camps were my favorite outings.  Those parents who didn't have time for volunteering for their children's interests missed out on so much.  I wouldn't trade that time with my children for all the money in the world.  Thank heavens I had jobs that worked with me on it all.

We have three boys, and the youngest is 2nd year Webelos this year...will graduate to Boy Scouts next Spring...we have revived the Boy Scout Troop in our small town...we have 7 boys...we are just getting started, so the Boy Scouts won't be able to go to camp this year...we are having some fund-raisers to make sure that they get to camp next year...

This is our youngest son's last year for Cub Scout Camp, but we may still go as volunteers in the future...it is so much fun...hard work, but fun...

I am the Committee Chairman for the Boy Scout Troop...and my husband is the Scoutmaster...we have a good group of parents, all willing to help...I think we will have a very rewarding program for the boys...and for the adults who choose to be involved...boys whose parents are involved go much further than those who dont...

I am also the Webelos leader this year for our youngest son's pack...we are looking forward to a great year, where everybody earns their badges...and has fun...

Well, I had better get rolling...I have a very full day...welcome to the board...Marcia is very faithful about posting every day...I come by and read...even if I'm not posting...but I'll be out of touch while at camp...no internet up there...and I don't have a laptop anyway!!

Are you bringing your horn to camp this year?  hee hee

Yep, I post every day ... it's part of my commitment to Dr. Phil.  I committed to his WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE back on 11/18/03 and I've been posting here ever since.  Strange huh.  I actually use the boards to commit and I become accountable that way. It really does work.

Wednesday

It is raining this morning so walking the dogs is out ... today just may become my day off from exercise - we'll see what happens.

I'm really sleepy .. I went to bed last night after 2 a.m. and was up at 8 a.m. No kidding .. it's my built in alarm clock. When I worked, I had a hard time getting out of bed in the morning ..now, I'm usually up around 7:30 a.m.  This is my body's cycle .. kinda cool don't you think.

Ways to Exercise in the House

Quote From: marcia52

We gain the weight first in our thighs and then it moves up to our faces .. so when we lose weight, we lose it from the top down.  And our breasts is the 1st place it goes away and that's just fine with me.

I see plateaus as actually a "good" thing .. I mean it.  What I've learned over the last few years is that when I experience it, my body is taking a time out to re-evaluate itself and when I start losing weight again, I'm seeing major changes in my overall body's looks.  Like this time, I really do see my upper belly becoming a roll and that would have really freaked me out before. Now, I'm becoming really proud of it!  It's a sure sign that my nice firm fat belly is losing it's firmness and that means I'm losing belly fat!!  Isn't that wonderful!!!

I'm also borderline diabetic. Have 2 sisters who have it and didn't take care of themselves when they got it.  It's a sneaking disease.  You look well so you just tend to ignore the symptoms.  My goal is permanent weight loss so I'm following Dr. Phil's WEIGHT LOSS SOLUTIONS.

I look at all life style changes as opportunities to explore different ways of doing / eating / behaving.

p.s.  By taking my weight-loss nice and slow, I'm giving my body the opportunity to re-adjust itself.  I started at 196.5 back on 11/18/03 and I'm permanently down to 182.5 now.  If I get derailed, that's where I stop gaining weight at.  So I can see the permanent weight loss happening .. even though it's slow.  Last year, it was 186 lbs .. the year before that 188.

Have you read Dr. Phil's Weight Loss Solutions?  What healthy life style books have you read?

lol... I bought it but I haven't read it yet.  I use to read a lot but now it seems i am lucky to get through the newspaper and a couple favorite magazines.  I do spend a lot of time at the computer, so maybe I just need to get the book on tape verson.

I am more the romance book type...lol, if given a choice.  Now days I am a childrens book reader.

I love reading .. just went to the library and got 2 novels to read.  I'm giving myself permission to read once a week.  I deserve it. It's better than TV and it's not a re-run (hee hee).

His book is really good .. it's just a checklist.  I've read it numerous of times now and I supplement it with mag articles.  They always have a couple of action bullets and it helps me to figure out 1-2 actions I can practice for even a little while.

THursday

This morning, I made 10 trips to 3 different empty homes to drop off my hedge clippings.  It took me 1.5 hours.  Still have 1 left .. I'll handle it tomorrow morning!  Couldn't believe how hot it was.

Went and got gas for the car and my gas jugs.  bought rubber boots .. they were on sale for $14 and had my size!! Now in the winter time, I can slide them on and feed the squirrels & birds  :)

Tonite is swimming lessons.  Tomorrow, it's walk the dogs in the morning and maybe I'll go to the WestSide Market to pick up fresh produce and kielbasa.  That would be way cool for next weekend. I have the sauerfraut and brown sugar.

I'm going to take a nap. Can't believe how tired I am.

Friday

We started learning how to do the breast stroke last night. It was scary at first and then I relaxed and had fun with it.

I was so physically exhausted last night that I couldn't sleep.  I just gave up and came downstairs and read my novel.

Today, I just walked the dogs, got the trash out, and I'm going to finish my novel!  I'm debating about attempting to mow the grass tonite when it gets cooler .. I'll have to see how I feel by then.

It's those hedges of mine .. it's taking quite a bit of energy and time and I'm still not done with them!  I have to trim the front sides of them.  Can't wait until fall when I just have to do it again before winter .. won't be so long or hard for me now.  With the tops gone, I can easily just trim the tops without standing on a ladder.  SHouldn't take me 2 hours either !

Saturday

I  didn't walk the dogs this morning .. had so much running around to do.

This morning before I left the house, I sat down with Dr. Phil's food plan and compared it to Bob Greene's.  I still feel that it's really a lot of foods. Can you believe 7 servings of Fat and Protein.  It's way more than what Dr. Phil's food plan has .. but his food plan is about 1200 or so calories per day.  No wonder I'm overeating because I'm so hungry.

Sunday - my weekly status report day

It's raining so I won't be walking the dogs this morning. I'm washing clothes and I did get my latest copy of Oxygen mag yesterday and they have a couple of exercises for my butt, abs, and arms. So maybe I'll just pull one of them out and do a set or two.

G1:  This week, I bought closure to another big STEP --  figuring out my calorie intake for different amount of calorie ranges.  There's 8 more tasks left on my long long list to do yet.  A couple are really simple .. like going to the market and picking up fresh veggies.  I'm also wondering about lettuce.

Q:  From 1 bag of ready-to-eat salad, I get 2 salads -- that's 1.5 svgs each.  Would I get more if I just bought the lettuce and tore it up myself?  The bag salad is $2.50 a bag.  I would probably save money if I tore it up myself wouldn't I?

Yesterday, I finally sat down with Dr. Phil's FOOD GUIDE and came up with a meal plan for 2000 calories. It wasn't easy with the protein ... Bob Greene has me eating 7 ozs a day ...  Dr. Phil says 12 oz.  So I'm going to allow myself to experiment with cutting back my breakfast servings and 1 oz from my other 2 meals.  The weird thing is, Bob wants me to eat 7 svgs of Starchy Carbs ... in fact, even with no exercise at all, Bob says 5 svgs a day.  I'll have to see how that works out for me.

I have 2 tasks that I'm going to be working on now ... (1) planning my meals around my "bumps" like my brother coming over or deciding not to or around my yard work and exercise.  (2) start practicing "batch meals" for the week.  I've experimented with these 2 tasks in the past a couple of times, so this time, it feels more comfortable and I can actually remember when I left off with both of them.  Which means, it's time to bring my food log back on track for these 2 tasks.  I practiced it the week before last and it wasn't so hard.  The food log helps me to figure out what my day is like and use it as a tool to help me figure out what I can do differently the next time.

G2:  Batch meals and figuring out my "bumps" meals is directly related to this goal.

G3: Now I'm going to begin experimenting with Bob Greene's food servings sizes.  It feels foreign to me so I'll just experiment for the next 6 weeks to see how it works for me.  And come this fall when my yard work goes away, I'll be cutting back my calolrie intake.

Overall, it's been a good week.  I am just happy that I'm finally moving into the kitchen again.  With the hedges now needing their fronts trimmed back, it will give me an opportunity to see how long it will take me to just trim them now that they're so short.  Only have a couple of more big projects to do and I'm going to pay someone to do them for me.  That will help to quiet my head.

Monday

I've walked the dogs (1/2 hr) and finished the hedges (2 hours).  This is a 2000 calorie day for me.

I'm finally acknowledging that it's time for me to lose weight as a real goal. I've had it as a low priority for so long ... dealing with all my triggers really took a while as well as re-learning to cook and clean my home.  I've been doing really good in all those areas now.

I've decided to cheat this time and use THE BECK DIET SOLUTION to help me figure out what I'm saying to myself and then SWITCH it out for my truths.  She's broken it down to daily exercises for a 6-week period.  So far, I'm wanting to do more .. but I know that I just need to take it really nice and slow.
