Ironically, the provincial government is running a Task Force looking into issues surrounding the Methadone Maintenance Treatement Program next month. I have already requested an appointment to present to this Task Force, so that they can take into consideration what's happening to teenaged kids when their program's drugs are diverted to non-patients.
I have yet to address other issues like education, awareness, and hopefully a private member's bill with my Member of Provincial Parliament, because I will NOT sit back and let this happen to another parent or child without trying to do my best to prevent it. My hard lesson learned will hopefully be an easier lesson to learn for someone else.
As for the comments of others about calling the police and trying being a good parent instead, all I can say is this. In the mental state my son was in at the time, he wanted to kill his father and likely would have tried it had he been able to lay his hands on a weapon. End result was that by calling the police, we were being good parents by allowing better trained professionals than ourselves to deal with the situation. And it's understanding when you can't do anymore and need external help, that makes a parent a good parent.
ok so someone said that this kid was selling Ridilen for 10.00 a pop, that is what happened at my old middle school and the people got suspended for it. also just to set people straight about the whole ADD/HD and the meds making them more suseptable to using other drugs, that is not the case most of the time. I got this source from ADDITUDE, an ADHD magazene with lots of useful informaiton. I have also learned from my own experence that trying drugs leagle or over the counter isn't for me, I don't want that 'high' feeling I am already in Alice's 'Wonderland' when I don't take my ADD meds. I was finally diagnosed with it my Senior year of HS. The only major side effect is weight loss, 18 lbs in 7 months, but now I am at a steady weight of 100 lbs, good for my 5'1" frame. My only wish is that my parents had looked into this sooner, not that I am blaiming it all on them, Mom just thought it was my LD, but now being 20 and learing as much as I can about the situation I am in, I feel more in controle. Like with anything that is 'different' whether it is bipolar, depression or just something like a food alergy, you take what is given to you and you live the best you can, whatever path you choose just remember to do your homework, and don't harp on people because there way isn't how you would choose to do it.
