One of many reasons to homeschool

The violence in school is one of the many reasons why we homeschool our children (we are in our fourth year and love it).  There are too many reasons to list here, but violence is always closer than we think.  We always think, "that could never happen to me" and that it always happens to 'someone else.'

Just recently we had two "incidents" within a few weeks of one another at a local high school (and we live in a relatively small town in the Midwest, compared to many cities in our state and country)...In the first one, a young man was caught bringing a gun to school!  The second was a threatening phone call to the school on a school day.  My cousin's son (and many other friends/aquaintences' children) go to that school!  So, it hits 'closer to home' than we sometimes believe it will.  Thankfully, these situations were taken care of before they could become tragedies.  For that we are grateful.

I don't criticize anyone who does NOT homeschool, as I feel that it is a lifestyle not everyone is 'cut out for'  or 'called to do.'  I sincerely hope and pray that your children (and mine!) stay safe as they come and go from your homes.

Good Grief!

Quote From: drillsarge

Just discovered that in a few schools the kids are told that if someone shows up flashing a gun, everyone is to grab something and throw it at them.  After doing that then attack them and take the gun.  Remember when we were taught to hide under our desks in case of an A-bomb attack?

New book for Mass. 2nd graders is called King and King.  It is about a Prince who didn't get along with a Princess so he matched up with another Prince.  Drawings of them kissing.  In Mass. gay marriage is legal so the school board sees nothing wrong with it.  The Bias Committee agreed.

Kindergarten book in Lexington shows pictures of homosexual activity.

A 5th grade girl was caught reading a bible on school grounds.  She was sent home to get rid of it and her parents were told that a bible is not allowed on the school grounds.

A local policeman stopped a teenager during lunch break for speeding, no muffler, and stereo turned too high.  The next day city hall received a call that the cop was selling drugs and kept them in his car.  Of course, the kid planted them.  The cop got fired, the kid was found out.

The cop never got reinstated.  Nothing happened to the kid.  The kids mom said " So what, ain't you never been a teenager?"  The kid is back to doing the same and bragging about it at school.

His teachers say that the kid always has been a problem but now others are joining in with him.

Most teachers will tell you (I think) that a good number of school kids have no idea why they are there and look at it like a prison or a place they don/t want to be.

That really upsets me. I remember when we were told to hide under our desks.  Now this new book for Mass. that the 2nd graders are reading called King and King, I would be FURIOUS if my children came home with a book like that! or even had to read it at school. Before I get slammed here for my "own" opinions, I believe "to each his own". I am against homosexuality. IF my kids were having to read material like that, I would DEFINATELY take them out of school!  The main problem here with all the schools is - You take God out , and the devil moves in!!! Again, just "my" opinion.

You might offend for not believing in homosexualaity but it is ok to deny God!

I agree with what you are saying and the sad thing, the lesson is gonna be learned but in the hard way for I honestly do not believe it is gonna get much better and if people would read and seriously think about what the Bible is saying, they would see a whole lot of stuff coming true and this book was written many many years ago, God does and will reign and unfortuanetly some people are gonna learn it the hard way but in the mean time, I will do everything in my power to teach, guide, and direct my children to love God, to make wise choices, to respect others including authority and to stick up for what they believe regardless of what others think and as much as I think it is sad, the pubic schools just do not do this right along with some parents, this is why the violence is so high in the schools, why students can over power teachers, and even the problems such as obseity and unactive kids, just not enough positive encouragement, role models, stability in a childs home and even in some schools.

I am sure there are good schools out there and I believe there are good teachers in every system but over all the public school system just doesn't cut it for various reasons and one of those reasons also, it hink is the over crowded classrooms, too many kids for one teacher to handle and to teach, I personally like the smaller setting, and I love the fact that the office staff knows every child by name and are there to greet my daughter and the other kids, it is agood feeling to walk in and know that some one is aware of the school surroundings, I love the idea of homeschooling but have chosen the Christian private settign for now and my daughter is doing awesome and we are well pleased with the atmosphere and education and that to me is what is imporant, parents must be aware of what is going on and in a lot of cases tehy do not for whatever reason and to me that is sad.

Whew!! That post just hit a sore spot with me. I had to vent. ( sorry ). It just infuriates me that the kids cant have nothing to do with using Gods name in school ( pledge, prayer) but yet, this one state ( probably others too ) is having those types of materials there for the kids to read. I feel that if they are gonna have those books there then they ought to have  "The Book of Leviticus" there also for the kids to read as well. But what I really dont understand is , these teachers have so much  to teach already, so why are they making them teach "king and king?" I feel that , that is the parents job to do on if they want to teach their kids about "king and king" or the Bible. What a parent may be teaching at home about the Bible, the school is going against their wishes by teaching something that the family may not believe in or want their kids exposed too. That is confusing to the child when the parent says it is wrong, and the school says it is ok. Another thing, my 6 y/o son came home from school last week telling us that he learned at school that if we were to ever spank him, he can call the police. We dont spank, we do time outs anyway, but right here , this example, is one reason  why kids are like they are now a days. Kids can over power their parents.

What I mean by " take God out and the devil moves in", is I also feel that is why there "is" so much violence in schools and not just schools but everywhere. I know "some" can deny God if they choose and "some" can believe in homosexuality if they choose. To each their own.  Times were so much easier and safer back in the good ole days. What happened?? Something happened.

I must admit that I am clueless about the material "king and king" but whatever the case I do not think a kid should be ridiculed for taking a Bible to school to read at his own leisure like at lunch time which is what I used to do but kids have gotten in trouble for it now days. I wonder if kids are aloud to use the book of Psalms as poetry in the public school system. I took a poetry class in school and some of us did an assignemnt on Psalm 23 which was no big deal, any way, I chose the route I did to provide my kids a better education as well as avoid some of the chaios going on in the public school system. I am sure that if there has been any tragic stories in the Christian schools, it would hit the media so fast that you wouldn't have time to blink and the truth of the matter is, there isn't the vilolence and nonsense going on in the private schools as they are in the public system and to me that says a whole lot. God can be taken out of our lives and denied all we want, but it doesn't change the fact that He still exists and my faith and life has proven so much to that, My life has been a changed for the better since becoming a Christian, I could go on and on about things that happened in my life and for those who want proof, well, I am positive they will get thier proof one way or the other, they can reject or accept it now but in the end, I believe God is gonna make Himself known and in the meantime I choose to believe and to teach my kids about God and the fact that they do not have to be politically correct, it isn't gonna get much better, but seems that sometimes things have to get workse before the positive outcome and according tot he Bible,t hat is exactly what is gonna happen and I for one believe it and will continie to believe it regardless of what others say and I will make sure my kids have the opportunity to make that choice, to receive it or reject but as for my household, we believe and I will send my kids to a system that believes and encourages them to love and respect thier parents as well as God.

I just googled the king and king and I guarentee that if my children brought that book home to read, I would  make clear that this was not in God's plan to live as homosexuals, it is my right as a parent to teach my children the truths of the Bible. marriage was created for man and woman, this is why God created man and woman as we are, man and woman are to come together as one, they have the parts to do that LOL. Again, we can deny this stuff all we want but the "proof" that so many people are wanting will be revealed. And my life as many other lives are proof enough of the powerful works of God, some call it an opinion and that's ok but this mother has absolutely no problem in teaching my kids this opinion for it is real. They will also learn that some popel deny this truth for whatever reason and it is a choice that they are gonna have to figure out for themselves and they will be accountable for their own choices, i intend on teaching my kids int he way they should go and because I beleive in the prmises of God, they will not depart from it meaning they will always have God to turn to, they do not have to turn to the ways of the world.................gotta go get oldest form school, have a great day/week everyone.

Too Close to home

Im a teacher in an alternative school in Mississippi.  My school is so close to the high school, you may as well say we are on the same campus of the high school as only a wall seperates the two schools.  Well, last week, a kid came to the high school with a gun.  Im not sure what bothers me more, the fact that we were not locked down or the fact that the kid is being sent to us.  I'm sorry, but if you bring a gun to school, you need to be gone....not at the alternative school...but gone.

Alternative school, Last Chance

Quote From: llilfarfa

What silver tonged devil talked you into taking a teacher job at an alternative school?

Several years ago I had a business across the street from an alternative school in Texas.  I wished that I had owned a video camera to record some of the activity over there and that was just on the outside.

The school didn't last too long.  Things that I do know is that the kids smoked pot every day, one day they stole a teachers car, they stole all the computers from the school real early one morning, they would throw trash and rocks onto the roof to kill time waiting for their parents to come pick them up.  They all dressed like rock stars, which of course they weren't allowed to do in the regular high school.  One of the kids had a car and would show up early and take others for a wreck-less crazy joy ride to the convenience store to load up on smokes, cokes and candy.

One of the teachers quit because she hated it when kids would spit in her face and on her clothes.  Parents would show up late or not at all to pick them up and some were so drunk that  they were all over the road and sometimes would miss the school and have to come back.

The air conditioner had a drain line from the eve of the roof to the ground so the kids cut a hole in the siding, broke the line and pushed it into the interior of the wall.  Ten feet of wall had to be replaced.

I called one day to tell the teachers that they were breaking into the trunk of a teachers car.  It got out that I had called (not too smart) and the next day two boys came over and keyed my truck.

I agree, the kid should be gone, and locked up somewhere, with his parents.

Can someone please help me?

I been sexual abused when I was 12 years old and when it was out what had happen to me I began having a hard time at school by the students and teachers. This has been going on for over 3 1/2 years not and its noting getting better at all. When I was in grade 10 I turned suicidal and ended up in Rehab because the students was giving me a hard time(beating me up,calling me names),When I was in grade 11  teachers were blameing  me for things, picking on me,they wasn't very friendly to me at all I could go on and on.A few things the students were doing were; beating me up in front of the teachers and they just walked pass like nothing was happening,i was kicked, pushed, punched and tipped out of my seat and the teacher just told the person to be good,I also had penciles, books, paper balls and dirty bottles thrown at me,I was spited on and water thrown in my face,i was stabed in the back with a pencil on day in class and the teacher niver said nothing, just told him to be good and do your work.Thats just a few things with the students and teachers last year but there are more that i niver said, but lastyear i became suicidal agian and had to quit school.I came back this year and the students have stopped because they are finish high school but the teachers are at me agian ,same things blameing me for things, pciking on me,mean and not respect ,giving me hard looks and a cupple other things but im becomeing depressed agian because im just sick of it and im under alot of stress because of it and because of that I am not doing well in school due to depression. We had a number of meeting about this problem lastyear and i even gave out the names of the teachers and studnte but noting was done because the staff are treating us different and dont care about us because we are from a different town.My other friends have had it hard too, they had to put up with a few things i experienced in the school and nothing was done was done about it,I find it hard to tell my story because its such a long story to tell but im trying my best to make it understandable and short, but I was thinking about going to the Media about this problem i been faceing for the past 3 1/2 year and I know alot of parents and students that might come forward to tell there story also....What do you think I should do?,Is the media the right way to go?

thanks for taking the time to read my story

Take Care,
Matt

Advise...maybe?

Cutehottie, I have just worked my way thru your message.

I will give you my first impression then maybe some advise...ok?  You say you have been sexually abused.  Why do you use the name, Cute Hottie ?  You didn't say if you were abused by a parent, or who.  Your grammar and spelling is terrible.  You asked if you should contact the news media.  You say the other students and even the teachers treat you badly.  Why ?

Where are your parents in this picture?  My thinking is that your going to the news media would be a mistake.  Do you have a school councilor or superintendent that you could speak to?  If you give us some useful information maybe we can offer some useful suggestions.
