Do the recent school shootings make you fear for your child’s safety? Has your child’s school implemented safety measures? Share your concerns, fears or advice.

nope.

What country do you live in?
There is no real profile for a school shooter.

Quote From: ebec11

I know it's a real threat out there, but the chance is so slim that it shouldn't be nearly as focused on. In this world, there are always people who don't follow the rules and do horrible things, but what people should realize is that for every bad person out there, there are at least ten others who do that don't get nearly as much attention.

I'd just like to add that most school shootings are by children who were picked on and bullied. Nothing would happen if people would just be nice.

Bullied students

Quote From: ajh1232

The people who do school shootings don't just decide they are going to. Something is wrong. They are picked on by the kids you may be trying to keep safe. I understand wanting to keep people safe, but if the kids weren't picked on in the first place, it could be avoided. Stop bullying in schools. Stop the fighting and get people anger management. Turning school into prison won't work because mostly, people are not going to want to pay for it, even if it's for the children. We need to stop the violence before it escalates into something as large as a shooting.
Bullied students are not the only ones who go berzerk.  Once a child is introduced into the public school system they are influenced by other students who may or may not have been raised with the same caring and supportive ways that you or I have.  Some  "parentless" students join gangs and intimidate other students into committing crimes.  I live in Texas and the violence in our schools has become a very serious issue.  Many of the students, in the school that my grandchild attends, end up in alternative school to deal with issues of violence.  Her school does have a one way in, one way out entrance with a guard at the entrance.  It has come to that and I'm willing to pay for it to keep my child safe.  We live in a "parentless" time.  There are more children today that receive no guidance or direction than in days past.  It's unfortunate, but true.  I, and my granddaughter, do what we can to not contribute to aggressive behavior and make certain that school staff is aware of students who are acting out in a violent manner so that they can receive the guidance they need.

How would you propose to stop the violence?  The problems begin in the home.

homosexuality vs divorce

Quote From: purplepenny

What does the bible have to do with any of it?

Aren't there scriptures about divorce too? Would you take your kid out of school if they were read a story where two people got divorced?
That is an unresonable comparison.  Homosexuality is about perversion;  divorce is about commitment.

man marrying man

Quote From: purplepenny

But it IS ok for a man to marry a man.

In real life in this day and age kids ARE going to see gay couples. They are going to see them raising kids, kissing, holding hands and generally enjoying life outside of a closet. I highly suggest you just get used to it.

You're right about ONE thing.  Real life in this day and age;  if you consider life on earth the only life there is.  I'm not trying to change you or make you become a "Bible thumper".   But if you're a Christian who believes in judgement day or life after this life, and I doubt that you are, homosexuality is obscene and will never be acceptable.  I know that you will continue your lifestyle and I wish you the best because I've learned to be forgiving.  Good luck to you and your mate.  Don't be judgemental about those of us you truly believe in our Christ;  we don't judge you.  We leave the judging up to our God.

Violence in School

Quote From: purplepenny

I read reviews for this book on amazon.com

This book is just a story. It's not sexual, it doesn't get pornographic...ALL it is is fairy tale about a prince who has to get married (Cinderella anyone?) and he finally find someone he wants to marry. Another Prince.

Exactly HOW is this going to damage children? Nothing is being pushed in this book. We live in reality. There are gay people. They get married, they raise kids, they vote, they eat...

It's not an agenda. The only people with an "agenda" are those who want to take an innocent little story like this one and turn it into something nasty and pornographic.
That may be YOUR reality.  A Christians reality revolves around Christ;  not the physical world, but the spiritual world.   We don't enjoy being exposed to things that are directly pointed out in the Bible as an abomination.  But, it does exist on this plane and we have to deal with it.  Don't blame us for wanting our children to live NORMAL lives.

Parent in Texas

Quote From: llilfarfa

Im a teacher in an alternative school in Mississippi.  My school is so close to the high school, you may as well say we are on the same campus of the high school as only a wall seperates the two schools.  Well, last week, a kid came to the high school with a gun.  Im not sure what bothers me more, the fact that we were not locked down or the fact that the kid is being sent to us.  I'm sorry, but if you bring a gun to school, you need to be gone....not at the alternative school...but gone.

I'm a parent in Texas.  At my childs school, if a student brings any type of weapon to school, he goes to Juvie.

God in schools

Quote From: mustbecrazy

Dear God,

WHY DO YOU ALLOW SO MUCH VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS?

Signed, A Concerned Student

Dear Concerned Student,

I'M NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOLS.

Signed, God

Excellent point!  I attended a church one time where the pastor stated that this planet is the devils kingdom.  It's my opinion that the pastors statement is totally accurate.  It seems like everything that the government does these days is anti-Christ.  What has happened to this beautiful planet?  What happened to quality of LIFE?  The anti-Christs who decided that it was unconstitutional to expose our children to the Christian religion have ruined this country.  I say, put it back in the schools and expose our children to the hope and love that they so desperately need.
