Quote From: llilfarfaIm a teacher in an alternative school in Mississippi. My school is so close to the high school, you may as well say we are on the same campus of the high school as only a wall seperates the two schools. Well, last week, a kid came to the high school with a gun. Im not sure what bothers me more, the fact that we were not locked down or the fact that the kid is being sent to us. I'm sorry, but if you bring a gun to school, you need to be gone....not at the alternative school...but gone.
What silver tonged devil talked you into taking a teacher job at an alternative school?
Several years ago I had a business across the street from an alternative school in Texas. I wished that I had owned a video camera to record some of the activity over there and that was just on the outside.
The school didn't last too long. Things that I do know is that the kids smoked pot every day, one day they stole a teachers car, they stole all the computers from the school real early one morning, they would throw trash and rocks onto the roof to kill time waiting for their parents to come pick them up. They all dressed like rock stars, which of course they weren't allowed to do in the regular high school. One of the kids had a car and would show up early and take others for a wreck-less crazy joy ride to the convenience store to load up on smokes, cokes and candy.
One of the teachers quit because she hated it when kids would spit in her face and on her clothes. Parents would show up late or not at all to pick them up and some were so drunk that they were all over the road and sometimes would miss the school and have to come back.
The air conditioner had a drain line from the eve of the roof to the ground so the kids cut a hole in the siding, broke the line and pushed it into the interior of the wall. Ten feet of wall had to be replaced.
I called one day to tell the teachers that they were breaking into the trunk of a teachers car. It got out that I had called (not too smart) and the next day two boys came over and keyed my truck.
I agree, the kid should be gone, and locked up somewhere, with his parents.
