(Original Air Date 10/13/06) Last year alone, more than a quarter of a million kids had plastic surgery, and it's a growing trend. Nineteen-year-old Krystal says she'll never feel beautiful until she gets breast implants. Her mother, Kristi, and her sister, Katie, have both had plastic surgery -- and want even more -- but strongly object to Krystal doing it. What does Dr. Phil think? Then, Diana wants her daughter, Bri, to get plastic surgery on her neck, arms, stomach, thighs and breasts -- and Bri is only 12 years old. Diana believes it will make Bri prettier and help her fit in among her peers. What message is this sending to Bri? Plus, one teen's plastic surgery nightmare taught her a valuable lesson -- the hard way. She hopes her story will be a warning to other girls before they go under the knife. Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

10/13 Teen Plastic Surgery

Quote From: di_anna

Hello

I am Bris Mom Diana

So you sat in the audiance huh??

Did you listen at all when i was up on stage?? I NEVER said I WANTED BRI to have surgery !!!

What I said was BRi wants surgery and as a mom who LOVES her child VERY much I want to help her to feel better about HERSELF for HER NOT FOR ME I LOVE HER NO MATTER WHAT!

I wasn't in the audience. I watched the show this morning. These shows are so highly edited, to fit in between all those irritating commercials, that I was left with the impression that you wanted Bri to have the surgery. I'm glad that wasn't the case. And that you're both making the lifestyle changes Dr Phil recommended. I saw in another of your posts that Bri's lost 15 lbs. In only a month. That's awesome! Long life and good health to you both!

judging

I cant believe this Dianna woman is actually saying that her 12 yr. old daughter Bri needs all that stuff done!!!  I do believe that Dianna needs some brain surgery.....take out some ignorance and put in a little compassion and be a Mother to her child and not judge her so much!!  I feel so bad for that child to live with such a judging stupid person.....that poor child must have NO self esteem!!!!  You NEVER tell a child that they "need to be fixed" because in the same sentance your also saying that "they are broken, or not right!!!"  Shame on you Dianna!!!!  People like you dont DESERVE to be Mothers!!  p.s. Cant wait to see how much "fixing you had to do to yourself"

I have read all the messages in this forum.  I find it hard to believe that you call Diana judging when you obviously have not seen the show.  You show your own judgmentalism in the names that you are calling her, such as "judging stupid person."  You even say she needs brain surgery.  Do you realize that her daughter, Bri, will be reading this message board.  All she will see is that her asking her mother for help has opened her Mom up to incredible criticism and name calling from people who supposedly care about her.  The final sentence in your statement is appalling.  I am a friend of this family and Diana has NEVER told her daughter that she "needs to be fixed."  She has a loving and supportive home and friends.  If you watched the show, you would have seen that she is incredibly intelligent and actually quite confident as well as being beautiful.  She asked her mom for help.  Diana and her husband do NOT advocate surgery for her or any other child.  She has said she would do anything to aleviate her daughter's pain; for example, cutting off her own arm, if she thought that might help.  The only thing, I think, that she regrets is stating how unhappy she is with her own body and that she thinks surgery would help HERSELF, not her daughter.  Bri is a great kid with a great mom who is doing everything in her power to help her.  You all have made alot of assumptions about this family, such as they have alot of money or that Diana has had surgery herself.  Both of these are not true.  Diana simply came to Dr. Phil to ask for help for her daughter to lose weight and help for her self esteem issues.  She did this at the request of Bri.  Putting yourself out there for public ridicule is quite difficult and I would hope some of you might reserve judgement for her and apply to your own lives which is where it belongs.

plastic surgery

Krystie, Katie and Krystal,

I suggest at least a 45 minute workout every morning--lifting every other day and cardio the other days.  Get your endorphins up!  This is what's missing in your lives!  You guys are only searching for that missing link.  I guarantee you this is it!  Be creative--Add fun activities, like dancing, rock climbing or roller blading!  Never make excuses for missing a day because it is the endorphins that will help you stop obsessing over such stupid things (like big---Huge BOOBS!) Love Yourselves.  You don't necessarily have to accept yourself for the way you are right now,  because you aren't right.  If you think you are deformed, find a friend who has been born with no arm or leg, then look straight into his/her eyes and tell them what you plan to do with your extra money.  Change your body by working hard.  You are an able person, so start acting like it.  Show pride through nutrition.  Don't allow yourself to eat any junk.  Eat only what you have taken time to prepare.  You deserve what you work for.  The satisfaction you get from this can never be taken away, so long as you continue.  If you focus on nutrition and exercise on a daily basis, you won't want to ever obsess on BOOBS again.

10/13 Teen Plastic Surgery

I am so angry and frustrated at parents who set such poor examples for their children, no matter what their ages.  Why not teach your children to do something for others who REALLY have problems, rather than having unnecessary surgery on their breasts. I really am sorry that this is such a problem in this country that Dr. Phil would have to waste air time to even discuss it.  Next time some of these folks contact the show, tell them to visit their local hospitals, etc. and see the children who might benefit from something they could do in place of worrying about how they look and spending 2 hours a day getting dressed and putting on make-up!  There, I'm glad I got that off my "chest" (no pun intended!)

Disbelief

I can't believe that Dianna is so negative towards her daughter.  I have a 12 year old daughter and I can't even imagine having that conversation with her.  It looked to me that Dianna had self esteem issue and she was putting them off on her daughter.  If anything she should have been encouraging her to take a walk with her.

plastic surgery

I cannot believe this show on teen plastic surgery.  I have a 13 year old daughter and she hasn't even gone through puberty yet.  How can a mother of a 12 year old seriously tell her daughter she should have plastic surgery?  Her body isn't even fully developed yet!  Most kids fill out in their middle first before they go through their growth spurt and will then "slim down" once they gro in height.  I have never been so outraged at anything, I found myself yelling at the mother though the TV set!  I haven't ever done that before!  This mother should seriosly think about the long term harm she is causing her daughter.

teens these days

hey, i just want to clear up being a teen-ager.  it really is hard to go into school everyday for seven/eight hours and be juged or teased or even strugiling for attition, good or bad.  I had to do this but my aunt decided to get me some help, and i am a very happy and strong person.  i addmit that i am still dont love the way i look but i realize that i am a beautif person so i have found things that i love.  so you may judge all these people harshly but you need to remeber that they are different for us and that they may just need a little help in there life.

Teen plastic surgery

These people need to get real. "My boobs don't look natural. They're too far apart, etc." Oh baloney.I am a 6 1/2 year survivor of breast cancer. I had a modified radical mastectomy with lymph node removal 5/29/2000. I went with 3 months of chemo, missed one day of work. In 2001 I checked into a reconstruction of my breast because it was throwing my balance off and the prosthesis wasn't a good option. So, it was a year long commitment. I had a tram flap, which means the surgeon took my belly skin off, made me a new breast and then filled it with the fat from my abdomen. OK, so I had a boob job and a tummy tuck. It cost more than a new car. But, it fixed what was gone. Otherwise, I pretty well am satisifed with nature gave me. I have lumps and bumps and my breasts aren't perfect, but I have two and I DON'T have cancer!  My clothes don't dip down on one side and I don't walk funny....so what's the problem. Beauty comes from within.

Did she say 'by the WORLD'S standard'?????

Can you beieve the ?logic? this woman uses??? If every one of us judged ourselves 'by the world's standards' we'd have to have mix&match  parts there were interchangeable at a moment's notice! I don't 'get' people like that and quite frankly I find them so tedious and ridiculous that I won't take the time to bother trying. I hope that poor girl grows up really fast and gets away from that woman before she totally destroys her self esteem. What a message to give that child! Your not up to snuff if you aren't aesthetically 'perfect! Bull crap!!!!!!
