(Original Air Date: 10/23/06) Dr. Phil conducts a groundbreaking social experiment. Six individuals from different walks of life, with different judgments and prejudices live under the same roof in an attempt to break down the walls of hatred and intolerance. Gary, 26, is a white supremacist who hates all people of other races. B., 58, is an African-American woman who thinks all white people are "ignorant sociopaths." Staci, 22, is a thin woman who thinks obese people are "disgusting blobs" and not people at all. John, 24, is over 600 pounds and hates skinny people. Christina, 22, believes all homosexuals are sinners. Tessa, 19, is a lesbian who hates straight people. Dr. Phil puts them to the test with assignments that force them to work together with their adversary. It doesn’t take long for hostility to break out, sending Dr. Phil over to the house, saying, “This has got to stop.” Will these guests learn acceptance, or turn on each other? Share your thoughts here.

Too Bad - So sad!

Quote From: saemae

B was talking to the camera about Gary.  She said he was the "racist".  It struck me as funny, because she doesn't realize she is a racist as well.  Each person doesn't realize their own prejudice.  The anti fat girl thinks she is right and everyone else is wrong.  The obese guy thinks all skinny people are conceited jerks.  The lesbian thinks all heterosexuals are mindless breeders.  The homophobe believes lesbians are sickening.  It's ALL prejudice; but not to the person who holds these beliefs.

Another thing B. said was all life began in Africa.  I don't believe that.  I don't buy into the theory of evolution; does that make me an ignorant racist?  Dr. Phil seems to think so.  He agrees with B.  B. said something that sounded smart; that makes her right?  Racism is sometimes misconstrued.  For example, just because I don't believe that ANY human being came from an inferior monkey-type being doesn't make me ignorant or a racist.  I know people who believe that only African Americans came from a monkey race, and I thinks that's just stupid.  So technically B. was agreeing with all the white racists I've ever come into contact with.  People have made so much of the whole politically correct debate now people have to tread on eggshells just to keep from being called prejudiced.  Personally, I'm tired of it.  You're entitled to your beliefs and opinions and I'm entitled to mine.  I have been a victim of prejudice myself, but I just see these people as losers who have esteem issues and take it out on those who differ from them.  Your color means nothing to me.  The way you treat me speaks volumes.  It ain't color or physical appearance, it's the condition of your heart that makes you good or bad.

Dr. Phil is not dealing with how B is treating everyone in the house. She has something to say about everyone yet she has been allowed to be a racist. No one should be allowed to behave as these people are. The world is filled with prejudice people and how a person deals with it shows what kind of person they are. Every person is discriminated against in their lifetime yet there are many people who learn from it and do not carry this type of hatred with them. These people are a horrible example of the human race. I have spent the last 21 years teaching each of my children not to judge others, to take the time to meet people and accept what is in their hearts. They do not have to agree with everyone but at minimum to reach further and see what each person is about. It is not easy to teach while these kind of people get a forum to preach their ignorance. I understand the concept of the show, but I hope that people do not turn or miss the point without seeing all of the shows and use this as a way to justify this type of behavior.

10/23 The Dr. Phil House: House of Hatred

It's a fact of life and really sad.    Bea is very similar to people I have met and worked with/for.  It's probably the sorest spot for me because that attitude has been hurtful to me and changed my opinions.  Growing up, I never saw color, religion, etc.  Everyone was the same to me.  As an adult it slapped me in the face.  It needs to stop!!! Because of the actions of others I have a lot of distrust ... and it shouldn't be that way!

THESE PEOPLE??

Quote From: ldfuselier

I have been watching dr. phil for 30 min now and already 'B' is aggravating me!! I dont believe myself to be racist, but enough is enough! Some of these people think that we owe them something! They say that 'they' were forced over here.  They were not, their ancestors were! And i think over the years we have said, as a country, that we are sorry. They have Black History Month and Black Colleges, but God forbid that we have a White/Caucasian/European (whatever you want to call it) Month or an All White College!! If something like that would happen im sure there would be lawsuits flying left and right!

Oh, this is just getting better and better.

Um, we wouldn't be here had our ancestors not been forced.  So... you think we, the children of those who were forced here, should leave?  Not likely.  That was B's point.  Enough is enough? Of what?  Black Colleges were started because we weren't allowed into the white ones!  We have Black History Month because we weren't being written about in history books.  Our history wasn't being told.  And there is no all -white college *to my knowledge* because whites weren't excluded from going to college in the first place.  All of the colleges were white when the black colleges were instituted.

I don't think anyone "owes" me anything - other than to be treated with respect and dignity, and to have the same opportunities as everyone else.  Which, sadly, is not the case.  Based on name alone, my son's resume is 60 percent more likely to be discarded than a "white-sounding" name with the same qualifications and the same experience.

If you think racism is dead....

Well, watch the show again because you missed something.

House of Hatred or Mis-Understanding?

I watched the show today with an open heart and mind.  I must say that the one person who I think I'd love to have a conversation with is B (the black woman who hates whites).  I think she's mis-understood and I believe that she's actually got something to say about history which might make sense here.  Sure she's probably met a lot of  "whites" that she didn't like, but I'm a firm believer that all she needs is for some "white person" to actually sit down and chat with her.  I think she's got a HUGE potential for change, I really do.  And no I am not black, I am white.

The next person who struck me as wanting major attention was John.  I know that being over-weight is not fun, but using it as a means or excuse to not do anything...well that's just wrong and it's taking advantage of people.  I didn't see anyone picking on him as he says.  He's going way too far with this issue to do with basic personal hygiene.  I'd be spraying around the Febreeze too if someone refused to get cleaned up.  And what's with saying that he's gonna call his "mother's husband who is rich to get him out of there"?  Nothing like pointing out that perhaps he's led a life where everything is done for him.  It's time he took accountability for his life and how it's turned out.  Mommy can't help you forever.  At some point you gotta step up to the plate, and take some responsibility for yourself.  And those crocodile tears that he's gonna shed is just an attention getter.  Sorry but I don't feel sorry for him at all.  And calling Security went way over the top.  I mean really - "they won't give me my dinner".  What's the Security man there for....I mean he's not there to make sure that everyone treats you nice.  If you can't handle the fact that your roomies simply want you to clean up or else you'll not eat...that's hardly a reason to call Security.  That's actually taking advantage of the poor security guy, not to mention it's a waste of the security man's time....John is just an attention seeker...nothing more.  Sorry but he'll get no sympathy from me.  Plus doing what he's doing now - he's only proving that the skinny girl's views on obese people are justified.  If I was him, I'd be trying darn hard to dis-prove that woman's views, but instead he's playing right into her beliefs.

One couldn't pay me enough to stay 1 day in that house with this mixture of people, if not for the smell which will be accummulating all because 1 person refueses to shower.  Bring on the Febreeze air freshener!

Going back to Africa

I am so sick & tired of prejudices whites telling blacks to go back to Africa. First of all we was there until the whites decided to enslave us to work for them, & I wouldn't mind going somewhere where is peace & not all this hatred. And as far as Bea goes, she is just as bad as Gary. She has a lot of anger in her & she is very controlling. Maybe if she would calm down & not try to force her opinions down his throat, he might would listen to what she had to say. It is not what you say but it is how you say it.

John's bad and inconsiderate behavior

John was totally out of line with his attitudes and behavior. I was particularly bothered by his resistance to shower and take part in cleaning for the benefit of all.  I think that I would have been tempted when he was sitting outside on the patio to get the hose ready and give him a healthy squirt of dish soap and scrub him with the long-handled pool brush and hose him down.

If John decides to leave he will really lose out on the good that can happen, not only for him, but for everyone. i hope that Dr. Phil can get him in line and keep him going on to a better life for himself.

You do have white holidays, What do you think Columbus day , Washington B-day, Christmas, holloween had a white santa for yrs until we had to fight for that, I do agree with you that B is aggravating, but the fact remains & I am not just speaking from a black opinion, I am speaking for other races that are not white & from first hand experience. When it comes to job promotions, Whites will get it first , we may get promoted but they are only going to let us go so far, when it comes to police brutality blacks or beaten & treated like animals.

Crazy happenings

These people really have headed there lives in the wrong direction. Everyone here was created equal it does not matter who worked to make this country rich. We are all the same no matter what. History is important and we should all know how the country was created, but that does not make one person better than the other. I strongly believe that people not matter what race, sex, wieght, or sexuality are a equal and it does not matter to me. I think it is all in how they where raised and that parents should teach there children better.

Giving Ground

I could not believe what I was watching.  Everyone so full of hatred...I have two grown mixed kids (half white/half black) and thought just where do they fit in?  Also, I am currently overweight but was skinny once...where do I fit in?  I have been hated by people of my own AND other races for marrying a black man....where does that put me?  I have had very close friends who were "gay" and didn't judge me for who I was and I am straight....Is this tolerance or just good old fashioned treating others as we would like to be treated?  Dr. Phil, I don't know how you will handle this...I will watch and learn.  I think many of them began to soften their opinions as the days in the house unfolded...but will they be able to carry that out into the world where we are taught to take care of yourself!!!!  I pray God will soften their hearts and help them to see themselves as they are..I pray that for all of us!!!
