Do you know someone whose behavior is always making you raise an eyebrow? Dr. Phil helps his guests distinguish what's normal and what's not. Kelly says she’s tired of her husband, Scott’s, jokes. She says they’re inappropriate, obnoxious and rude. Scott admits that his jokes can be sexual in nature, but he loves being the life of the party. Will Kelly loosen up, or does Scott need to tone it down? Then, Vicki fears that she’s dying and visits the doctor at least once a week. Her husband, Harvey, says she needs to stop worrying about her health or she’s really going to make herself sick. Is it all in Vicki’s head, or does she really have a reason to be afraid? And, Shelita refuses to celebrate the holidays because she says they’re pagan festivals. Her sister, Akea, says she contradicts herself by accepting presents. Will Akea be able to embrace her sister’s decision, or is Shelita being unreasonable? Plus, Dr. Phil and Robin kick off their participation in the 2006 Toys for Tots holiday campaign! Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

UNBELIEVABLE!

Yes, alot of holidays are based on pegan beliefs but this woman is totally unbelievable.  She did SOME research and took what SHE wanted from it instead of the whole truth.  Peganism is not SATANISM!  There is no heaven and there is no hell.  There is no "god" and there is no "devil".  Yes, there are multiple gods/goddesses and not all of them are "good" in the traditional sense. Be that as it may, I suggest that if someone like that is going to pick and choose what they want to retain from the information that they gathered and put such a negative conotation on it, the ones around them who DO celebrate the holidays will have a much more positive and enjoyable time.  It is what you put into it.  It what you GIVE to others that makes theholidays so wonderful whether you be Christian, Pegan, or whatever else.  And on that note.... HAPPY HOLIDAYS just a tad early to all!

That is only an opinion, I, like many others believe this and have a testimony to support our belief system to be true. I do not believe in gods and goddess but I do believe in A GOD and as A Christian i celebrate my God in many ways and I agree that those who do not celebrate holidays for whatever reason, that is up to them and at the same time we are not to ridicule others for their faith and beliefs, for this is a free country and GOD, I believe gives us freewill to choose our path. I bleieve our lives are testimony for how and what we live and when we leave this earth, then and only then will learn the Big truth of it all in the meantime, I believe we are to live our lives according to how we are meant to and for each of us that may be in a different way but must remember that the end will happen for all of us,therefore having the peace of assurance is imporant. WE are are not suppose to be about ridiculing, but about loving and caring and serving and I beleive serving God as well. For me this is my truth and regardless of what others might think of me, I hold on to my truths.

Again, Happy Thanksging to all and  A Merry Christmas tot hose who celebrate and for those who don't, happy winter and most of all enjoy your families and for the Christians out there, hold on to your faith and celebrate the birth of our God in a way that is glorifying to Him.

gotta finish cleaning a room, preparing fro the great holidays, my favorite time of year.  :)

Jetta, no one is ridiculing those who choose not to celebrate certain holidays.  They are responding to lies and misinformation that is being spread about Paganism.

I'm sorry, Jetta, but I think the ridicule is in your mind. I don't care what holiday's people do or don't celebrate. I get angry when people live in ignorance about the truth of other religions. And spread those lied and ignorance's on as fact.

I admit, it makes me sad when I think of American children who are surrounded by things like Christmas lights and the atmosphere of it all and then their parents deny them the celebration. I never ridicule them though. I just have an opinion myself that denying a kid a fun Halloween or Christmas is silly. But that's my opinion, and except for forums like this, where we are here to discuss this kind of thing, I don't say anything to others. I mind my own business. As long as they aren't hurting their kids, I mind my own business. But I am allowed to personally feel sorry for their kids in my heart.

11/01 Is This Normal?

To say that I am upset at Shelita's comment about essentially calling my religious beliefs is puss is an understatment.  She as a Christian in my opinion does not follw  the ways of the Christ. I grew up Catholic and had a wonderful experience but in the end it was not the belief system for me. I have come to know and love the Wiccan way of life and celebrate the ideals they profess. In escence it does share with Christianity some basic human beliefs, it's just done from a different point of view.

Growing up I was taught that Jesus Christ was a loving and giving person who accepted people no matter their status and (or) beliefs. To think that he would judge me as unacceptable or less than human seems foreign to me. The Wiccan tradition that I was taught in saw Jesus as a great teacher like Buddah who was on his last lifetime before going to the next level of excistence. Because of this he wanted to share what he learned to everyone. Through his great sacrifice and return as a being of light and spirit, he achieved this transofrmation and was his final lesson in belief.

Yes many of the holidays we celebrate have pagan origions. The fact of the matter is that these beliefs and traditions come from somewhere. They are not made out of thin air. The Sun God was born on Yule, a few days before Christmas. It was done on the darkest day of the year when the people could celebrate that the light of the sun was now going to come back in longer days. It was a time when family's would gather around and be grateful for what they had and in each other. Constatine simply took this and made it his own because even he found them acceptable.

I for one as a Wicaan mother do celebrate Christmas also because of the joy it brings to my kids. Making cookies for Santa, writing letters to him and Christmas morning. There is magic in the holiday, no one can dispute that. The spirit of this holiday is about giving, sharing and being with the ones I love the most. Who wouldn't want to live for a moment in that world?

History reinvents itself all the time to conform with the beliefs of the day. Some choose to live with the old beliefs and others choose create or incorporate new ones. There is nothing wrong with that. That is simply life.

If Shelita chooses not to celebrate, that is her choice, but to choose to look at others, point fingers and call their system of Beliefs "Puss'. Well that's not very Christian, is it?

Well said.

Christmas or not Christmas

You know what the problem is here? Jesus is the problem. You see we can talk all day about  god and no one gets offended because people worship their own gods and allow others to worship their own god even if it is the God of the Universe. However, Jesus, made himself the offense when He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me." Those of us who put our trust in Him know that He is the salvation all of us need, but He also commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves even if our neighbor is our enemy. These teachings of Jesus are not easy, but they are exactly why Christians should not be hateful or mean to people who don't believe.  But, the truth remains that Jesus came and died for our sins and not believing that doesn't exempt you from it. I can jump off the top of a tall building and scream all the way down "I don't believe in gravity!" but I will still splat on the ground. Now about Christmas . . . by the word itself Christmas has to be a "religious" holiday. I'm not against gift-giving and family traditions, but they should not be the main focus. I had a great-uncle who dressed as Santa and delivered presents to children in orphanages and hospitals in the 1940's and 1950's (kind of an early version of Toys for Tots, Dr. Phil). His last stop of the evening was at my grandmother's house. I have some wonderful, fond memories of his visits, but I never thought it was the reason we celebrated. It wasn't until many years later that I found out it was Uncle Frank. I love the images of Santa kneeling at the manger worshiping the newborn King because Uncle Frank was a devout believer and often prayed, That image puts the emphasis in the right place.

Merry Christmas! I hope no one is offended, but I do celebrate Christmas.

Comparing gravity, a force that has been tested repeatedly, billions of times a second everyday for millions and millions and millions of years to a supernatural God is nonsensical.

I'm glad you enjoy Christmas and see it as an opportunity to give and share and create happiness with all man kind. I'm an atheist and I see it that way too.

too many cats

I cant believe you people! You have no right to decide how someone else lives their life. If this woman has 10 acres she should be able to do what she wants within its confines. There are many abandoned cats in this country left behind by humans who give no care to what happens to a pet once they abandon it. This woman has a clean environment for herself as well as the  cats. Cats unlike dogs are very self sufficient they bury their poop and with 10 acres this woman has a virtual potty box outside. Her care and devotion to these animals is great and she should be commended for her love of these animals. There are few people who care to adopt older cats. I know I have found this myself when I have had to rescue abandoned cats myself. Even ones already spayed or nuetered. Give someone a chance to adopt a dog instead of a cat and the dog wins out almost always! God put people on this earth to care for others including animals - He declared it and if she can handle 200 cats that is her business. If she choses to give each day of her life to this endeavor its her business. Who are you to judge, you all go around doing what you want in this life why cant she? People are so nosey and judgemental in this country, They dont know how to mind their own business and it its something that they themselves have no interest in or no support for they walk in judgement of others who step out of the box or the norm. Dr. Phil you screwed up on th is one, You have no business telling this woman what you think is healthy for her. She looked pretty darn healthy and content to me. Her sister needs to get a life of her own. If this lady doesn't care to hang around family the rest of her life, its her choice not anyone elses. You people need to look at the   quality of your own lives and what you are or are not doing to bring the quality of life to others around you - yes even if its animals - and do something to help - instead of spouting off critial statements about the efforts of others. At least she is now setting on her butt complaining about other people. She is giving life to unfortunate animals that others have discarded. Her neighbors are mouthy and just watching them on the show tells me they were lying to the lady. All you guys think is that she should get rid of her cats. Cats are loving devoted and compassionate beings. They are self sufficient, clean and q;uite the characters. Unlike dogs, they can be left for more than one day without much care and have been reliable in so many ways. I am praying and hoping that she finds a safe haven for her and her cats so she can live in peace away from fools like all of you.  Get a life!!!! Cat lover and rescuer of abandoned cats and darn proud of it!
