(Original Air Date: 11/9/06) You hear about scams all the time -- e-mails and voicemail messages claiming you’ve won valuable prizes. But Dr. Phil is outraged by what some con artists are doing to him, his family and his viewers. A group of scammers has been baiting unsuspecting viewers with a phony 800-number, then taking their money in exchange for phone therapy sessions with Dr. Phil and Robin. These bogus Dr. Phil staffers were asking for anywhere from $375 to $1,000 for a consultation. One viewer, Renee, fell prey to their tricks. She wrote to Dr. Phil for advice to save her marriage, but ended up in the middle of a major con job. Then, Robin makes a call to the scammers. It’s a conversation you don’t want to miss! Plus, find out what happens when Dr. Phil sends private investigator Harold Copus to set up a sting to ask some tough questions! Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

11/09 Dr. Phil Scam, Part 1

Quote From: purplepenny

Also...let me get this right....let's follow your logic here.

Someone GENIUS comes up with a plan so deceptive that even YOU, with your amazing brilliance, cannot spot it. Let's say they impersonate you SO well they can go into your bank and take ALL your money and savings...they made a suit and mask that are so life like they would fool even your husband...and they mastered your signature, they have perfect fake ID's...I mean, these people are so good they fool EVEN YOU! The bank doesn't believe it's not you!

Are you saying you DESERVE to lose your bank account because you aren't savvy enough to see it coming? The bank teller's deserve it? The bank deserves it...everyone who was fooled by this person DESERVES it because they weren't sharp enough to catch it...right?
Testy Testy...Again... apples to oranges, There is a difference from someone being legitimately scammed like the one you are saying and the Ted Bundy scenario another person is commenting on. I am saying these people make it easy for scammers. these are ridicules "if its to good to be true it isn't "scenarios these people need to use their heads, and no one said they deserve anything. I was making a point of them being extremely gullible and need to wakeup.

11/09 Dr. Phil Scam, Part 1

                           THAT'S RIGHT
That's not very nice.....I know plenty of people that have so much goodness in them that they cannot believe all of the bad in the world.  They trust people and believe that they are doing what is best for them.  I believe it is very hard-hearted to say they deserve what they get for being trusting.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

THAT IS THE QUESTION---WILL THESE PEOPLE BE CHARGED WITH THEIR CRIMES OR JUST HAVE THEIR HANDS SLAPPED?

So much hostility

I enjoy reading through the comments but I find more often than not, people are just bitter..angry.. and confrontational. Does someone need a hug? Did ya have a bad day at work? Kids driving you crazy? I mean, surely the comments that people make here that get some people so wound up aren't the real issues at hand.

So, you think the only scam that has legit victims is the one YOU don't fall for...

And yes, another poster did indeed say they deserved it.

And people are who are gullible aren't that way by CHOICE...some people are simply gullible.

11/09 Dr. Phil Scam, Part 1

Quote From: denzangel

It is making me sick all you people who are posting for poeple to use their common sense.

My best friend is the smartest person I know.  She graduated top of her class graduated college at the top of her class and so forth.  But she has no common sense.  Most of the studies state that if you are very smart that common sense is hard to come by.  She will believe anything anyone tells her and would fall for a scam just like this in a heartbeat.

So you have the common sense does that mean that you are book stupid?

Common people it is nobodies fault that they fell for a scam except the scammers themselves.

 I AGREE...very nicely put!
