(Original Air Date: 11/13/06) After nine days in The Dr. Phil House, have these guests let go of their prejudices, or are they still living with hate? Dr. Phil assigns more tasks that force the group to work together and learn even more about each other. White supremacist Gary has to cook dinner for B. and her African-American friends who come to visit. Initially angry, Gary has an enlightening conversation at the dinner table. Then, Dr. Phil sends John and Staci out on assignments together. First, to the gym for a workout, and then, after Staci gets a 300-pound makeover, the two head out in public, so she can see what it’s like to walk in John’s shoes. Next, with the help of a Hollywood makeup artist, Gary is transformed into a black man, and after some cultural coaching from B., heads to two different neighborhoods as an African-American male. With intense one-on-one time with Dr. Phil and some surprise family visits, these houseguests leave with different perspectives, better attitudes and plans for a peaceful future. Talk about the show here.

Agressive people

Quote From: housewife52

Why do you not like black people?

There are now for exampel 15.000 from Somalia, Africa,  in my country. We are about 5 mill. now in Norway. My experience has been purely personal and since so many africans are living here in Oslo I am damned to meet any at any time. They have come here and they do not want to work; less than 30% is working. They brake any law, they seem unstable and show agressiveness for the smallest thing.

Did God Send the Invitations?

Quote From: baware

All of us have to understand that we are all connected in one way.  Through our conscience and unconscience which is through one source The Divine.  The reason that all of these beings were led together was to come face to face with themselves.  God always sends us reminders of how we are being at any given time if we look for the clues.  We are all mirrors of ourselves, believe it or not, so if someone causes you to feel a negative reaction, that is actually you reminding you of some ways that you need to work on.  One mind.  God is genius that way.  We are not meant to go it alone here.  If you are not feeling good about yourself, you are not in alignment with the Creator, and he will let you know, even if you think that you are not that way, it will show you what you are capable of (perhaps some fears undealt with)and to change it before bitterness seeps in.  Learn to study yourselves and look for signs in people, tv, radio, books, conversations and especially from within.  If you ask , an answer will surface. God Bless.  In Jesus name.  Amen
I think it was Doctor Phil who brought these people together.  Religion is not a scavenger hunt.  If you look in everything you encounter as a "sign", you will convince yourself you've seen one.

No Need To Wonder

Quote From: nasale

So, what do you call a white person who is at the opposite end of the scale? I think it must be a type of prejudice  (?), but I absolutely love black people! They are funny, and talented and I love their style and music (some- not rap ).  From the time I was a kid I always wanted to adopt a black child. I think (most) black babies are the cutest , most adorable little dolls I've ever seen!  I didn't grow up with the kind of prejudice that I see in the U.S. and I really do have a very difficult time understanding it. Okay, let me have it. I know I'm probably gonna get an earful, because I am smart enough to realize that I'm probably just as bad as someone who hates blacks. But, I'm just trying to be honest and understand myself.
You can take your scenario and substitute any groups of people you wish.  While your intent is honorable enough, you are displaying a text book definition of prejudice.  I doubt that manner black people are thrilled to know you just love them when you've never met them.  Even when out in a positive note, discrimination is still wrong because you are not looking at individuals.  I would guess you have deeper reasons than you are aware of.  In any case, at least it is positive.

Thank You, But Not Really

Quote From: ksm_wvr

You both seem to be able to use big words in the most appropriate way. I'm guessing you both are very well educated and get deeply involved in these kinds of discussions often. Good for you both. That is if I am correct.
I don't claim a large vocabulary and I think no one is ever truly well educated.  These are issues I care greatly about and. in my opinion, true dialog is the answer.  Your post shows you to be a person who contributes much to a conversation.  Don't underestimate your own ability.

Question

Quote From: rianashley

You said, "History has repeatedly shown that whenever diverse groups are required to live together it creates conflict, oppression, and eventual destruction of a nation."

This conflict and oppression  has nothing to do with diversity but has more to do with the hearts of people. If people were not selfish, did not think they were superior to anyone and would treat everyone they way they wish to be treated, then everyone would get along. It's a heart thing. If we would get our hearts right, we would get along.

You appear to be very focused.  Your response was well done.  I would like to add a bit.  The original poster  knows some history, but only enough to formulate a flawed argument.  For example, the Greek democracy he refers to did not include all people and does not compare to ours on many levels.  One view of history was presented.  I would maintain that, on its own, it is meaningless.  It should not be considered in a vacuum.

Can Anybody help me please!!

I try not to judge, and I am a Christian. I have had quite a few gay friends in my time, just friendly-like, no relationships or anything. I tend to have no problem accepting that their perception of romantic love is different to mine in the way of gender difference, but I can't get away from some verses of the Bible that do not approve of Homosexual people. Can any person out there who is knowledgeable in the Bible please explain this matter further please?  I am not in the business of knocking people down or anything, but I need to know what is God's Will in this area. I hope God's Way is my way.

Thank you so much,

 Lory(Melbourne,Australia)

Shock

Quote From: purplepenny

You know, that's an excellent point.

Maybe I watch too much Court TV, but no matter what race, I am going to avoid any male behaving strangely, even those acting normally.

I don't answer my door to people I don't know either.

Maybe I'm paranoid.
I am shocked at the Pennylady!  I really thought you understood men better than that.  Don't you know yet that we all behave strangely?

People can change !!

Quote From: lesdis5

Hello Dr. Phil.

As a Norwegian I am amazed to see that American people are still prejudiced against black people. How come? I read in the paper that there are still arguments about white pupils in black schools and vice versa. And this in USA 2007? You white American are still not comfortable with black people in your neighbourhood? After so many years, black people are still an issue! I conclude that there must be a good reason for that. And what are the reasons I wonder. Last time I talked about being political correct., which here in Norway is a boring issue, as far as I am concerned, I am of that opinion that being against some ethnic group is based on experience. I have personally experienced black people in my own country the last 4-5 years. This has made me what someone might call a rasist. I am not! Its just that my experience is of a caracter which has made me think bad of these people. So why is it that I am not allowed to speak about this issue openly? And why should "dr. Phil" change my attitude when this is based on my own experience? Why am I a worse person for being a so called rasist? (I do not care actually,) and I do speak openly about my feelings. I guess that after being on your show on this matter people will behave, but I do not think that you are able to change these peoples attitudes. Because the reasons for their attitudes will be seen on a dayly basis when they get home, through media etc.

Sincerely, Sidsel

Dear Sidsel,

I believe that the people in the guest house will have changed their attitudes only because their communications between themselves were of a very deep kind. When Dr.Phl sent them rock climbing they had to learn to rely on each other, no matter what prejudices they had against each other, so that they could live, as a wrong move would have seen either one of them fall and injure themselves. Staci, who was thin and hated fat people, in wearing a costume that made her fat learnt the hard way how fat people are abused in our society. Plus their interaction in the house were all purposed for the people to learn how to respect, care, and help each other, no matter how we look like or what we are. As I heard said that after all everyone has the same red blood in our bodies.  I'm not Dr.Phil but i think that was how I thought the good doctor meant in putting different people with all different biases in one place. I do realize that you have your own opinion and I respect that. I have to challange myself everyday to keep myself on the straight and narrow and it's hard sometimes not to dislike some group or some people. Anyway, I hope you hear from Dr.Phil Sidsel.

Sincerely,

Lory (Melbourne, Australia)

07/02 The Dr. Phil House: House of Hatred, Part 3

Quote From: housewife52

IMO, no you did not miss some part where God tells people not to have interracial relationships and children. God just simply didn't want the tower built. (Nowadays you'd have to go to the zoning board)
Thank you! Yes, people use the bible to support their personal racism and it makes me ILL!
