(Original Air Date: 11/13/06) After nine days in The Dr. Phil House, have these guests let go of their prejudices, or are they still living with hate? Dr. Phil assigns more tasks that force the group to work together and learn even more about each other. White supremacist Gary has to cook dinner for B. and her African-American friends who come to visit. Initially angry, Gary has an enlightening conversation at the dinner table. Then, Dr. Phil sends John and Staci out on assignments together. First, to the gym for a workout, and then, after Staci gets a 300-pound makeover, the two head out in public, so she can see what it’s like to walk in John’s shoes. Next, with the help of a Hollywood makeup artist, Gary is transformed into a black man, and after some cultural coaching from B., heads to two different neighborhoods as an African-American male. With intense one-on-one time with Dr. Phil and some surprise family visits, these houseguests leave with different perspectives, better attitudes and plans for a peaceful future. Talk about the show here.

You're very mature; poem is wonderful!

Quote From: philicia_f

Dear Dr. Phil

I am in ninth grade and i have been watching your Dr.Phil's house of hatred but i have something that helped me respect others it is a poem called

 different shades

this world is a crazy mess

nothing seems to make any sense

why is everyone full of hate?

do we really need to discriminate?

people say don't mix your race,

we don't want no black-white face

some say keep your sex straight

there is no need of any gays

others say control your weight

why see another fat face

WHY DON"T PEOPLE USE THEIR MIND????

God didn't intend on only one kind

we're as black or white

gay or straight

heavy or thin

as the next

before judging get to the text

inside we are all the same

don't use looks or ways just to blame

our organs are found in the same place

although we're all shaped as a

different vase

get to know just one new friend

no matter of their skin

if you open your eyes, then you'll find

another friend in the other kind

the world could be a peaceful place

if you don't judge people by their choice

thank you,

philicia f.

I thought of that, too; guess maybe they didn't have enough time to even have B sit, meet and hang out with Gary's white friends.

Quote From: sobo2003

amazing. they showed a white guy, dressed as a black man standing on a corner in a 'white' area. why not send a white guy, or woman,  to do the same in a 'black' area? where's the accurate comparison? wouldnt the results be the same: disrespect, people ignoring the 'different' person standing there, yelling out requests? it is not an accurate story, as there is not a comparitive study- only more so-called evidence that white people are all bigots...unbelievable.

Gary, by the way, your attitiude and demeanor are very commendable;

best of luck to you...

U R a bright like in a dark world

Quote From: lind24

 Sweetie,

I am so encouraged to hear young people such as yourself, say such pure sentiments.... I'll bet you are a sweetheart among your peers, and I am certain that they look up to you for your kind heart. Discrimination breeds hate, anger, resentment, ill will, and hurt. Hurt to others, but most of all, yourself. You are correct in saying, we're all the same-perhaps different wrappers, but the wrapper is insignificient....it's the heart that we will all be judged upon in the end.

Stay sweet, and spread your goodness upon others!

We are still here??

This show was a real eye opener....I was so distressed to see such volitle reactions in this day and age, simply b/c of appearance and sexuality. Are we no farther ahead than we were 50 yrs. ago? So much of ignorance like this begins at home, and I pray that parents are extremely cautious and sensitive regarding how they describe others. We need to know we are all the same-different exteriors, different personalities, different beliefs, different personalities, but we are ALL human beings-none being superior to the next. Differences are what make us interesting! How dull and boring it would be if we all looked alike, thought alike, felt the same emotions....we need to embrace our differences and love each other knowing it is our differences that make us unique and interesting. It is the height of ignorance to "judge" someone b/c of their skin color-why should that ever matter? It is certainly none of my business regarding another's sexual preference, and who am I to judge? The only concern regarding weight should be for health reasons...they can be on either extreme-too heavy, or too thin.

Lighten up world, and embrace each other with love. I've never known love to create resentment, hate, anger and bitterness-all of which eat away at who you are as a human being.

07/02 The Dr. Phil House: House of Hatred, Part 3

I don't know how these people have survived in the real world for as long as they have.  They are incredibly stupid and stuck in their own ways.  John should definitely have his big butt kicked.  Being fat does not mean he has to be a slob.  And the white supremist (SP?) should not even have taken up space here.  As I said - the real world will kick these nutcases where he hurts.

As a recovery addict, I believe that we all have similiar prejudices and faults that may not have been exposed and brought to the surface.  Look in the mirror.

White supremacy is not only a white thing

Supremacy is taken by almost all concerned when it comes to the first inhabitants of the Americas.  The abuse is unfathomable even today.  Almost daily I will see this attitude on display by every other race, not just White society.  Is it possible that the other races take this supremacy on, much like John did of White Supremist doctrine in one episode, to feel like they are 'worthy' of being on the 'White-side' of life?  It is ridiculous to think that it is ok to tread on the original land owners of America and treat them/us like second-class citizens.  I'm sick of it!!!!

Culturel, social.....

Quote From: penny_lady

This isn't a race thing, this is a assimilation problem, this is a cultural difference, this is a societal difference.  How brown their skin doesn't matter...this is a surge of unfortunate people escaping a bad place.

This is exactly what I meant. Social and cultural differences differs by ethnic groups. As it happen the ethnic people I am refering to are black people. Thats all.

Trusting people

Quote From: maria3255

Dear Sidsel,

I believe that the people in the guest house will have changed their attitudes only because their communications between themselves were of a very deep kind. When Dr.Phl sent them rock climbing they had to learn to rely on each other, no matter what prejudices they had against each other, so that they could live, as a wrong move would have seen either one of them fall and injure themselves. Staci, who was thin and hated fat people, in wearing a costume that made her fat learnt the hard way how fat people are abused in our society. Plus their interaction in the house were all purposed for the people to learn how to respect, care, and help each other, no matter how we look like or what we are. As I heard said that after all everyone has the same red blood in our bodies.  I'm not Dr.Phil but i think that was how I thought the good doctor meant in putting different people with all different biases in one place. I do realize that you have your own opinion and I respect that. I have to challange myself everyday to keep myself on the straight and narrow and it's hard sometimes not to dislike some group or some people. Anyway, I hope you hear from Dr.Phil Sidsel.

Sincerely,

Lory (Melbourne, Australia)

Hello and thank you for your sincere answer. I have seen the program now recently and my thoughts were : wow, this could have been interesting. But were not these people what we may call loosers? In other words they were people we might say are not what we by some standars say are perfect. One so fat I found it hard to watch. One so thin I felt sick to my bone (worried), 2-3 black people (ethnic group) who obviously Amercans still do not accept. (Because they are black) Dr Phil had gathered people I am sure would never  be his close freinds. Some of us call them loosers, but to use a word like that is considered political incorrect. Also in USA I gather.

Sincerely,

Sidsel

great

I thought the show ended up terrific.  I could really see sincerity in Gary most of all - and B also.  Any man that has that much love in his heart for his wife and to call her "my world" or however he put that is just an old softy at heart.  His father should be shot for putting him through the beatings like he did.

As for John - oh please !  He was still looking for attention at the very last statement that he made.  He is a spoiled little brat that got nothing out of the experience.  Every word he spoke and every action he made was for pure attention seeking.

The other gals I really think did see things differently.  I liked the fact where they walked in the others shoes.  I have fought my wieght all my life and even though I am only 150 pounds I still feel the looks and such - I really dont care since I am 50 years old, college educated and just finally realized that I like myself too much to starve to be what society says.
