(Original Air Date: 11/15/06) Imagine discovering that your next-door neighbor owns over 200 cats. Ray and Dennis never thought their neighbor, Kristy, would let her pet collection get that big. Once friends, the three are now in a nasty and vindictive war because of the felines. Ray and Dennis say Kristy's property is one big, disgusting litter box, and they want Kristy to get rid of her cats. Kristy says she'll never part with her "cat sanctuary." Are Ray and Dennis playing dirty in order to run Kristy out of town? When is it too much, and where do you draw the line in the litter box? Then, Mike says his wife, Lori, keeps everything from used envelopes to empty food jars and medicine bottles, because she "might need it" in the future. He is ready to take desperate measures to put a stop to this. Lori says the thought of throwing her stuff out is her worst nightmare. Is Mike guilty of making nasty bribes to get his wife to change? What's really behind Lori's habit for hoarding? Tell us what you think!

LOL  While I really doubt your answer was serious, it was clever (as usual).  If I can be serious for a moment, this problem and the messages posted by all parties, shows the depth of the disagreement within this country about the proper care for animals.  When you get down to it, I think we both have the best interest of the animals in mind.  We just don't agree on what that is.  As far as the fines go, the neighbors are not creating them.  She is.  Whether you think she is right or wrong, or even if you feel the law is wrong, she is fined for violating the law in her area.  She should have shown common sense by checking into local ordinances.  If she has the courage of her convictions,  then she should pay the fines without complaint while working to change the ordinance.  That is true civil disobedience.

In the meantime, I continue to look forward to your messages.  I may disagree, but at least your thoughts are actual thoughts.  You do bring points to the table, but I still don't think you want a cockroach farm next door.  LOL.

but you are 100% rite she knew she had all those cats before she ever got fined, relly in all honesty she should have been building  cat kennels long before it ever got this far out of control, what upset mw with the guy next door was sitting there admitting leaving antifreeze out of the origanial container it came in and setting in a bowl that was cruel, and a very much agants the law, and aganst the E-P-As guild lines as how to properly dispose of that waste ,it could infact seep into the water ways causing all kinds of seirous problems for humans as well as for animals , i cant argue about some one not wanting other cats or dogs on there property, all i relly want people to think about is not every cat comes from christys 10 acres and alot of children will be heart broken if every one starts trapping what may seem to be a homeless stray cat, i owne 3 beautiful dogs, and every now and then the two smaller dig out of my back yard and i would just die if some one caught them and hauled them off before i could catch them, the one that never gets out tells on the other two lol shes a german sheapard and weighs 165 pounds, i know if she starts diggin she leaves me a big hill of dirt to see  lol,and another point i was tryin to get people to see was how to get a sleeping cat off your car without getting scratches,i know when you see,a cat on top of the hood of a car you paid 30,000 dollars for it will piss you off, but if we remain calm and not spook the cat it will get up and jump off leaving the paint job unharmed, you may have kitty paw prints to have to wash off but no scratches where the cat was trying to dig in in a attempt to eascape harm, after all the cat was only trying to find a warm and safe place to rest, it relly dosent know any better, a little kindness to animals gose a long way<>

No

That is an interesting observation and probably right.. Maybe her neighbors are just can haters.
The observation is WAY off base.  Zoning doesn't work on a what if basis.  It is either zoned properly for her wishes or it isn't.  End of story.

It appears "sheepfarmer" did not pay much attention to the program.  Her behavior is problematic and obsessive.  She was funny, but she needs help.
and weather she changes or not her husband has a real prize with her,if every one had a heart like she has this would be a perfect world, i hope dr phil has a follow up on her she was fun to watch and listen to,not making fun of her problen in any attended but i did laff my butt off with her,i wasnt laffing at her, what relly got me was when dr phil had pictures up showing her clutter and she looked at him and asked whear are the good parts in the house your not showing them lol now that got me,i had more fun watching her than i had when i went down town to the comedy house  lol,

I am worried because there is nothing you said in this message I disagree with.  lol  I have a cat right now, but I once had three dogs, two cats, a bird and an aquarium.  Cruelty to animals is always wrong.  I honestly did not hear the man say he left antifreeze out.  Whether intentional or not, this is as foolish as it is wrong.  The environmental hazards it poses go well beyond the neighbors cats too.  There is no good reason for that.

As far as the car goes, I don't get upset if a cat is on my car.  When I shut the door they jump off.  If they don't then, they do when I start the engine.  The picture of 20 or so cats on my car is very different though.  (It's a small car!)  I think that is a good example of how I really feel about this.  One or two cats in my yard is not a problem  75?  Yes.

I also do not believe in trapping unless there is no other option.  In the end though, I do love animals and want to see nothing but humane treatment of them.  Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the litter box!

Cat lady

I have a sister who rescues cats. But not like this crazy lady. She brings them home cleans them up nurses them back to health.Neuters them or spays them. Then she finds them homes. That is the responsilbe adult thing to do. She has two  cats that she had had for  several years. I really think people who do the crazy behavor have a mental problem.

I mysalf am a animal lover.I have one very old dog.I do have a child with sever lung problems. So as a responsible pet person I could never put my nieghbors in that kind of danger.having that kind of  unkindness of a nieghbor puts a poeple at risk of lung problems and deases.even if you say you take good care of those pets.If I had a nieghbor like her my daughter would be dead.

Protect the cats

This lady is going overboard with this many cats.  She needs to get them adopted out or placed in no-kill shelters that can help her adopt them.  Time is running out for these poor cats, if she doesn't cooperate, and it would be the right thing to do to get them adopted into loving, caring homes, or into a place where they will not be killed.  Their lives are in jeporday, and they need to be rescued from this situation NOW before they are killed.

All for the cats

My heart goes out to Kristy.  I believe she feels what she is doing is the right thing, and I see the love she has for these cats, and the love they have for her.  I wish she could get some type of help with a license & maybe help to run a sanctuary.  I am curious as to how she has the funds to support these cats if she doesn't even go out socially I imagine she isn't working?  I wish I lived closer, I would love to help care for these cats.  I just hope she can get some help before the cats get taken from her & they can be put into good homes and not have to be put down.  I have 6 cats of my own, and I can't imagine someone telling me I had to get rid of some of them.  I am torn on this issue, but I do think these neighbors of hers were being less than truthful.

Cats are like potato chips, you can never have just one

I absolutely adore cats. I have 6 of my own.  Even though I have a lot the house does not  smell like a litter box. All you have to do is clean the litter box. It's not rocket science. All 6 stay inside and all 6 have all their shots and  are  fixed. Cats are not hard to take care of. They basically take care of themselves. They are some of the best things that have ever happened to me. I commend her. I wish that I was able to do something like that.  For anyone to say of we should just kill them. How would you like it if someone told you to kill your pet because they didn't like it.? When you have a pet you form an emotional bond with it.

Cats are a lot easier to take care of than dogs. My cats don't pee on the carpet, chew up my shoes, I don't have to take them out and take them on a walk, attack and kill people and they bathe themselves. Why people either hate cats or are scared of them is beyond my comprehension. If you like one or the other better fine, but to hate them and want them to die is just plain stupid.

I say keep up the good work!

Ronikins311, you said it well!  The maintainence is easier than any other animal in my opinion, too.  I live in ND, COLD ND, and there's nothing worse than going outside to 'pooper-scoop' when it's 20 degrees......been there done that, and never will do it again!  And yeah if you clean the litter box, there definitely is no smell.  I also have 6 cats, and people that come visit tell me that if they hadn't seen the boxes, they wouldn't know I had cats because there is no smell!  I am not crazy about dogs, but I would never tell a dog lover that they need to get rid of them, or that they should be killed.  These neighbors of hers were being dishonest, in my opinion.  Did you notice when Dr. Phil asked the guy on stage if he had ever done anything to one of her cats............he paused, stuttered, and FINALLY said NO!  It was only obvious that he HAD!  What do you say we jump on a plane & go help Kristy with her cats?  he he he
