(Original Air Date: 11/15/06) Imagine discovering that your next-door neighbor owns over 200 cats. Ray and Dennis never thought their neighbor, Kristy, would let her pet collection get that big. Once friends, the three are now in a nasty and vindictive war because of the felines. Ray and Dennis say Kristy's property is one big, disgusting litter box, and they want Kristy to get rid of her cats. Kristy says she'll never part with her "cat sanctuary." Are Ray and Dennis playing dirty in order to run Kristy out of town? When is it too much, and where do you draw the line in the litter box? Then, Mike says his wife, Lori, keeps everything from used envelopes to empty food jars and medicine bottles, because she "might need it" in the future. He is ready to take desperate measures to put a stop to this. Lori says the thought of throwing her stuff out is her worst nightmare. Is Mike guilty of making nasty bribes to get his wife to change? What's really behind Lori's habit for hoarding? Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

200 Cats! Spay & Neuter Your Pets!!

I believe this woman has wonderful intentions, but 200 cats is ridiculous and I don't blame her neighbors for filing complaints.

I love animals and I've worked as a veterinary assistant in the past.  If I could help every animal on the planet find a safe & loving home, I would do it, but I know that is unrealistic.  She really needs to think about her own life, health and the health of the cats, as well as the concerns of her neighbors.

I know how much veterinary visits cost and I'm sure every cat has not been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV, vaccinated, dewormed, on a flea and/or tick preventative and spayed or neutered.  If this woman would really like to start a "sanctuary" for unwanted cats, I commend her, but she cannot do it in her back yard.  It's just not healthy for anyone!  She needs an organized facility with individuals to help her take care of them.

I hope everyone remembers to be RESPONSIBLE and spay or neuter your cat and/or dog.  It's not only important for eliminating unwanted pregnancies, but it also decreases the chances of cancers in your animals reproductive system!!

About those neighbors...

Quote From: aisydaisy

There are several different issues going on here.

She has 200 cats.  WOW I admire people with that much dedication.  Their hearts are beautiful and she is a LOVELY, WONDERFUL PERSON. Mother Teresa spent her life caring for orphans in Calcutta and was handed a Nobel Peace Prize  It is people like them that make the world a better place  That said.  She may have issues.  To let that consume you to the point here you do not see your family or have any social life... well that may not be healthy.  But however, that is her choice.

Now those neighbors... Im sorry, they came off as money hungry, lying, degenerate lowlives.  Seriously, "Well there was some antifreeze left out in my house.. i dunno if the cats drank it."  Yeah right.  Noone in their right mind would just leave antifreeze out, esecially if they know that there are animals roaming the area.  Unless you WANT the animals to drink it.  I doubt that they actually drank it.  I belive that they might have been poisoned.  But only they know.  If they did may God have mercy on them.

Any person who would go thru the process of killing living things out of spite, has more serious issues than a person caring for 200 cats.  All they care about is their property value....moeny money money.  At least someone has their priorities straight.

I agree with you.  I got the distinct impression that the antifreeze was deliberately left out in the open.  At another point during the show, Dr. Phil asked one of the neighbors if he had harmed any of the cats - the man's long pause before saying "No" was pretty suspicious.

I really feel sorry for those cats.  That lady takes care of them because of the irresponsibility of human beings who (1) don't spay/neuter their pets, and (2) abandon them when they don't feel like taking care of them anymore.  The animals always suffer in these situations.

I am praying for that good lady and her cats.  Hopefully good homes can be found for them if she can't keep them.

I agree with you CHichilover!

Quote From: chihuahualover

I think that lady has the right to have those cats. I know that the law says otherwise but the law is stupid. At least she is taking care of them. Everyone is always whinning to adopt cats and dogs cause they need homes. Well this lady gave them a home. She takes care of them and loves them. So what if she spends lots of  money on them. She loves them and it makes her happy and the cats are happy to. She gets them fixed so they can't make more cats. Which is another good thing that she does. If they take them away from her then there will be lots of homeless cats. When they could all have homes and be wanted. All whats going to happen is they are going to be put to sleep. That isn't fair. I know she will probably lose the case and I hope she doesn't. She is a good person and I think she should be able to keep them. The law sucks!

You are correct .....who should state how many anmials she can have. She has a very large area and seems to have a clean home and takes care of these unwanted ones. I think it is more of a personal problem between her and her 2 neighbors then the cats. Seems they are using the "200 cats" topic to run her out of town.

If she lives in the country, no one should be able to tell her what she can or can not do on her property.

I agree, the antifreeze was not just  accidently "left out" in a large open bowl - not even a container with a lid! Who has that laying around???? and if they really do leave stuff like that around, they must be "messy and umkempt" as they said she lived like. The neighbors are bullies and want her out. Poor lady , I feel for her. She is onl y taking care of the unwanted and doing a good job too.

11/15 When Too Much is ... Too Much

As a cat lover myself, I think Kristy's heart is in the right place, but like Dr Phil said, she is losing perspective and getting over her head.

I admit to being VERy worried as (if memory serves) Kristy lives in Florida and just this evening, there was a report on the NBC affiliate here in Tampa reporting of a woman who had over fifty cats in horrid conditions that all had to be put down :( WIth some relief, I tivoed the news replay to be sure of the woman's name and it wasn't Kristy (thank God) I was worried as there was some resemblance to Kristy so caused a shudder.

But, I fear that one day the same thing could happen. No matter how well intentioned she is, there is the risk of losing herself to her pets and the possibility of  such a sad instance happening with her cats. With that many cats, one person could never provide that much care on their own.

On a lighter note, one good thing about having that many cats, guaranteed, there isn't a mouse or rat in that neighborhood for miles!

Yeah and her cats looked pretty healthy. I had over 20 cats before so I would know a sickly looking cat. She is only taking care of the unwanted cats. Which is helping with the animal shelters that are trying to get them adopted out. Can't really fix a pet population problem if there are limits. I think the law should be based on property size when it comes to pets. I feel so bad for her. I think that her neighbor is hurting those cats. He looks like a jerks that would harm an animal. She said she would find a place to live away from them and I hope that works out cause all he is going to do is hurt them.

Orange kitty lover

i feel bad for those little kitty kats, thats why its best to have your cat neutered or spayed! My Morris is 1 1/2 years old and as soon as he was old enough he was fixed and also he stays inside. Other people may not want cats in their yard or flower beds. Just like dogs, cats should have to be kept either in the house, yard or kitty pen..... My cat is a total house cat and goes outside on a leash.. Please lady for the sake of those cats, do the most humane thing you can do and give them up so that they will have a better quality of life.... I am not about killing the cats just giving them up for adoption for their own well being!
