(Original Air Date: 11/15/06) Imagine discovering that your next-door neighbor owns over 200 cats. Ray and Dennis never thought their neighbor, Kristy, would let her pet collection get that big. Once friends, the three are now in a nasty and vindictive war because of the felines. Ray and Dennis say Kristy's property is one big, disgusting litter box, and they want Kristy to get rid of her cats. Kristy says she'll never part with her "cat sanctuary." Are Ray and Dennis playing dirty in order to run Kristy out of town? When is it too much, and where do you draw the line in the litter box? Then, Mike says his wife, Lori, keeps everything from used envelopes to empty food jars and medicine bottles, because she "might need it" in the future. He is ready to take desperate measures to put a stop to this. Lori says the thought of throwing her stuff out is her worst nightmare. Is Mike guilty of making nasty bribes to get his wife to change? What's really behind Lori's habit for hoarding? Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

Thank you for helping the animals

After reading more of these posts I know that I like animals more than people. I am reading how these cats should be put to sleep or adopted. Have you ever delt with a feral cat? They don't make good pets but they can be spayed or netuered and allowed to live out their lives.

This woman's house looked clean, it wasn't covered with watse or trash and didn't look anything like a animal horder off animal planet shows. She uses her own money to get the cats vet care. Now granted she should have all the legal papaers in order. I hope that she can get some legal help and get those papers in order and continue doing what she loves. I hope she can find a place away form these men who seem so cold and wish to see harm come to the cats.

If anyone is to blame its the people who don't spay and neuter and  care for thier pets in the first place. I believe there should be strict laws enforcing that and I beleve that anyone who wishes to be a hobby breeder should be responsible and held accountalbe for screening new owners and taking those animals back if the owner doesn't want them. They should supply anyone taking an animal from them wiht low cost neuter information and stress the need for proper care of the creature they purchase.

Kristy, I know that many people support what you are dong. I think you need some help getting legal and I think you need volunteers and a plan. If I lived next door to you I would be visiting you just to play with the cats and help if you needed it.

To the other person who posted that does private rescue, thank you. I wish more animal rescuers would post here.

Coming from a True Animal Lover

Quote From: chihuahualover

I agree with you 100%. She should be able to take care of those cats if she wasn't to. Atleast they are given a place to live. The more she takes in the less that has to be put down. But if the law has anything to do with it they will be put down if they take them from her. Poor lady. Trying to take care of what others don't want. I would help to if I had the money and time. I don't. She is very brave to take on this kind of responsiblity and less selfish. Instead of spending money on herself she spends it on cats. That is very sweet. She has my support. Someone needs to stand up for these animals and I am glad she is doing this.

This woman should be condemned, not commended.  What does she give these animals?  Certainly she has provided medical care, but how many of us think that alone constitutes a quality life?  If she was honestly and actively having these cats adopted on a regular basis, I might have some agreement with her.  She, when cornered, alluded to the occasional adoption.  These are not wild animals and need human companionship far beyond what one person gave give 200+ animals.  She is a vicious and self-centered woman who simply wants to play the part of the heroine with out living up to it.  She has no concern for her neighbors at all.  A fence for cats?  Please!  If she wanted to live in a remote area and keep a landfill, fine.  But even then not animals.  She just doesn't have the pedigree.  In spite of all the moronic PETA people out there, this is wrong.  There is not even an issue here.  And having animals who cannot be given a proper life "put down" is not only ethical, it is humane.  You say someone needs to stand up for these animals?  I agree.  Most should be euthanized.  Further, real caring people would stand up to the egotistical woman she is and put this to and end immediately.  She would be fine as she happily played the martyr for all the world to see.

Beyond that, if she is going in the face of rulings made by the proper authority, she is acting in civil disobedience.  There is nothing wrong with civil disobedience, but the person who is sincere accepts the consequences instead of crying about it.  This woman is a fraud in all respects and deserves no form of accolade.

My Last Word

I promise.

I have been reading the posts here, and I wonder how many of you ACTUALLY know how much work goes into running a Kennel, or shelter, to say, " Well she has ten acres, plenty of room" is just naive, okay get insulted, but hey there are reasons licensed shelters are licensed and she is NOT.

There are limits to what a Kennel or shelter are allowed to accomodate dogs or cats, would you people feel the same way if she had say two hundred DOGS on her property ? probably not, why because cats don't bark, BUT they are just as capable of biting, and worse scratching an unwitting person that gets too close ( any who have dealt with ferals know what that's all about ).

A cat bite by the way is more dangerous and prone to infection than a dog bite by the way, why ? Because of the teeth, a dog's teeth are made to tear, and therefore will bleed out , cat teeth are meant to deal the "Death Grip" which is why a cat can kill a mouse without leaving marks, the wound dosen't bleed out and so the whatever can stay under the skin.

Neutering may or may NOT eliminate spraying, its a territorial marker that Toms use to say STAY OUT, that is probably what the neighbors are smelling from her property, she has probably become desensitized to the smell.

Anti freeze, I concur it is CRUEL, and yes I agree not too many people leave that out lying around, but on HIS OWN property, well I'm sorry but if she wants that many cats thaen it is HER responsibility to keep them on her OWN property, come to think of it, isn't it kind of hypocritical to say these animals were abandoned when she lets them roam free herself .

Prevention is easy, KEEP YOUR CATS INDOORS, I can't go and tell my neighbors that they cannot have poisons on their property, I am responsible for my pets, hence my cats stay inside, and my dogs are kept in the yard and on a leash at all times, would save alot of heartache and nastiness on both sides don't you think ?

By the way, LOVED that cat house, sorry I forgot the poster's name, what a WONDERFUL idea, and I bet your neighbors appreciate it to.  I think sometimes we forget, not everyone LIKES animals, and you know I HATED cleaning up after neighbors dogs and cats because of them running lose, oh yeah,

And before you pick up a "stray" make an EFFORT to find out if someone is actually missing them, after all a cat CAN escape home if the door is accidently left open, as can a dog don't just assume the worst.

Pack Rats

I see the signs of "pack-rat-itis" on a weekly basis. 3 of the many customers whom I clean for are borderline packrats. I did notice that the ones who are are also on anti-depressants, so it is easy for me to encourage them to get rid of things that are no longer useful (100's of paper and plastic bags, empty prescripyion bottles, piles and piles of their kids homework papers from many years ago), or at least organize them. But what happens the next time I clean is that they have hoarded a bunch of new things. I am no therapist, so I just clean around it, but it is sad.

I lost a dear friend many years ago. When I helped his parents clean out his room, I couldn't believe it. Stuff was piled so high, we couldn't see the bed, or walk into the room. It took his sister and me 10 days to sort through everything and either donate it, or throw it away. He had always been troubled by too many thoughts in his head, and if he had been helped to organize

he probably would have been more emotionally healthy.

I feel for the woman whose husband is fed up, as well as for him. It is unnerving to live in a disorganized, cluttered home, and I really believe it creates (or is created from) emotional problems. I am so happy she is going to get help, and that it looks as if it will save her marriage.

if she is willing to give her life to helping gods creatures she has my blessings, and as far as im concerned she ownes her 10 acres, i do not nor have i ever paid 1 thin dime in property taxes on her property, so i guess it makes it hers, what ever she wants to do with her property is ok with me, i dont care, its hers to do with as she will, she paid for it not me there for i have no say so as to what she dose on her property, and as far as people saying 10 acres arnt enough for 200 cats go, well what about all the relly wild animals being forced out of thear homes every day [the woods im refering to] for strip malls to be built for apartment complexes to be built, you know it wont be long till we see all kinds of real wild life in our back yards, hahaha  yesterday i was watching the news, and they showed a video where police were responding to a burgler alarm at a local bank guess what they found when they arived  hahahaha [a dear had jumped through a window setting off the alarm hahahaha, the dear wasnt hurt in any way but you know makes you wonder was the dear trying to get some cash to buy back the woods hahahah, but relly dont you think we all need to think about this, god put all the animals here aswell they too have a wright to live who are we to say well this animal must die cause hes on my property, well i say it all relly belongs to god there for making it all his property and we too are just alowed to live on the land and i ask this aswell wouldnt it be better if those guys helped kristy build houses for those cats till she can find them a good home instead of working 4 times harder trying to force her out? i think so,

How do you help these people when they don't see a problem?

My Husband has been cleaning out my Mother-in-law's first  homefor several years. At the time she moved into her second house, therewere no path's left through the first home. Piles of stuff from floorto ceiling. My Husband over the course of eight years has cleaned outtwenty  20 yard dumpsters & the house isn't finished. She'snow gone on to fill the second house so there are no paths left... atleast it's a smaller house. Now she lives with us in an in-law suite, and you guessed it, she has started on IT.... My Husband went in therethis week, cleared out four contractor bags of  garbage & itdidn't even show... I have threatened to call the fire marshall on ourhouse and the second house if she fill's ours up.... I don't care if weare all homeless in the process of cleaning this stuff up, I am tiredof the time it takes, and the family time it takes away from us.... Iam just tired from it... My Husband will never stop trying to help hismother, it's just all so disturbing.... These pictures are after the first five dumpsters were taken.... Just remember there's another house just like this one stacked up :( I find the whole situation overwhelming, and I'm not the one that can even clean it....

Not This Time

Quote From: afraid

rabies from a cat come on get real now if a animal has rabies you wont have to worry about trapping it, lol  it will trap you and also there are laws that say you do not have the wright to remove your neighbors animals from your property you have animal controll do it of you have the police go and inform the owner there animal has strayed, get real now, if you are so scared of getting something from a cat you wouldnt even be putting your self in harms wat to start with, your just trying to ease your guilty sole for getting rid of a elderly couples cats, thats down rite mean shame on you,!!!!! rabies  hahahahahaha get real
I can't agree with you this time.  When you refer to the laws you are looking at primarily local ordinances.  If i can out of my house to go to work and found twenty cats on my car you had better believe they'd be gone and none to gently at that.  I have a cat and she is never permitted to go onto the property of others.  The writer may have been wrong about some things (I can't agree with trapping), but she still has a valid point and no reason to feel guilty.  Those who live with no concern for their neighbors are the guilty ones.  Lastly, if you don't think a feral cat carries disease, please look that one up.  Maybe not rabies (although that IS possible), but there are several others they do carry.  The writer is not putting herself in harms way, the neighbor has done that for her.  Please look at the other view, then we'll talk about getting real.

One Squirrel Too Many

Quote From: chihuahualover

I think that lady has the right to have those cats. I know that the law says otherwise but the law is stupid. At least she is taking care of them. Everyone is always whinning to adopt cats and dogs cause they need homes. Well this lady gave them a home. She takes care of them and loves them. So what if she spends lots of  money on them. She loves them and it makes her happy and the cats are happy to. She gets them fixed so they can't make more cats. Which is another good thing that she does. If they take them away from her then there will be lots of homeless cats. When they could all have homes and be wanted. All whats going to happen is they are going to be put to sleep. That isn't fair. I know she will probably lose the case and I hope she doesn't. She is a good person and I think she should be able to keep them. The law sucks!

You have lost all semblance of perspective.  She does NOT love them.  She loves the idea of them and being viewed as their savior.  She could not be more false if she tried.  Try a reality check here.  There are far more dogs and cats in this country than there are true pet lovers to care for them.  You cannot truly care for that many cats.  It's a sham and so many people have bought into this dog and pony show that it's shameful.  She is a fraud who cares nothing about other people.  HER wants come before everyone.  That's right, HER wants, not the needs of these cats.  I have really got some swampland to sell you!
