Sarah and Tecoa are 25-year-old twin sisters who had a normal childhood until their mom and stepfather divorced, and their world changed forever. Sarah and Tecoa say to fill the void, they turned to drugs and sex. Now, Sarah lives minute to minute on the streets, consumed with her quest for heroin and crack cocaine, and selling her body to pay for her drugs. Tecoa is currently clean, but not by choice. She’s been in jail, unable to do anything but think about drugs. She’s also six months pregnant. Joani, a former Dr. Phil guest and recovering addict herself, found Sarah on the streets and documented her days and nights for a month. Dr. Phil shows video footage to the twins’ mother, Cindy. How did she let her daughters’ lives get so out of control? Dr. Phil gets the twins off the street and into The Dr. Phil House to detox, and to get their lives back. With surprise visits from their past, a terrifying look into their future, and Dr. Phil helping them through it all, will Sarah and Tecoa commit to rehab and stay clean? Talk about the show here.

Please note: The on-the-street footage in this series was filmed by a concerned outside party and sent to the Dr. Phil show.  Upon receipt of this compelling video, the Dr. Phil show began immediate efforts to plan and arrange necessary interventions and inspire these young adults to get out of harm’s way.

Find out what happened on the show.

its a parent's job

i had a daughter who CHOSE to start messing around with drugs.. I CHOSE to give her two CHOICES:  go to rehab or go to the police station and be arrested.  she chose rehab and was there for 10 weeks.  i worked, went to school and had two other kids, all while i was in my early thirties and DIVORCED.  rehab was an eight hour drive every weekend.  when my daughter got out of rehab she CHOSE to stay clean because i CHOSE to give her three CHOICES:  go to rehab, go to police and be arrested or CHOOSE to not use drugs.  she is an outstanding mother of two children of her own, and always tells me she appreciates the way she was raised, and she is raising her children the same way:  WITH LOVE, ATTENTION AND A CLOSE EYE!  TRUST ME, IT IS THE EASIEST AND SAFEST WAY TO RAISE A CHILD!

If you have never been "stuck on drugs" then you will never know

Quote From: sugarboog

I think the saddest thing is that most often Rehabilitation Centers only offer a temporary withdrawel.  It seems when they are in that enviornment (once they've withdrawn from the physical effects) they are fine and really believe they can stay off the drug.  Everyone there is there for the same reason and they support each other and they have lots of AA meetings, lots of talks and lots of hugs and they form bonds.  However, I heard somewhere that 70% of them go back to doing drugs from 1 hour to 1 year after they have left the rehabilitation center.

Does anyone out there know if this is true???  70%?  it's like there is little hope.  I hope it's not true.
I don't blame the step day, I blame the mom but most of all it is up to the twins.  Just like every other "drugie" in the world today, it is up to "US" to get off drugs.  How we do it is up to us, if by Rehabilitation Centers and that works for us...good, me, I didn't go that way......God did it for me.  And being stuck on drugs is a disease, just like being a drunkard is a disease,  addication is a disease just like cancer, the good news is there IS a cure but you have to want it.  I am a RECOVERING drugie, every day for the rest of my life, but thank God I am RECOVERING.  And these girls, as long as they have breath in their bodies, there is hope.          Now, the fact that you have no pity for them is OK, that is how you feel, and I hope you never do drugs, and that if you have children that you ensitll in them to NEVER do drugs, but I wonder should you have children and should they ever take the wrong road would you want someone to have some pity for them?  We as human beings need to show love to those who need love, when you look at these girls we need to realize yes they made the wrong choices, however what we are seeing are the results of drugs, not their true personalities but the results of drugs and with the right help they can overcome that.   We have such a battle here in the streets of America with drugs and one of the biggest and cheepest drugs of choice today is HERION and it is killing our children and I don't know about anyone else but I think our children are worth the fight.  As far as the womon who is walking behind this girl filming her, she was filming it for Dr. Phil and no drug addict will take help until they hit bottom, I know, I am one, I hit bottom, lucky for me my bottom, where I fell was right into the palms of the Lord.  God Bless.

yes we parents have our role in keeping our children away from drugs,

Quote From: aannietd

they were just kids, children when they started.  they were 12 according to their "mother".  if the parent is not responsible, then who is?  the neighbors?  the convenience store worker?  if she could not handle raising children she should have adopted them out, or chose not to have kids in the first place.  i was only in my early thirties when one of my children started to mess around with drugs.  i gave her a choice:  rehab or police station.  she chose rehab, and was there for 10 weeks.  it was an eight hour drive every weekend.  i worked full time, had two other kids and still managed to keep it together.  I CHOSE TO MAKE MY CHILDRENS' BEHAVIOR MY BUSINESS NO MATTER HOW HARD IT WAS!  my daughter never did drugs again after coming out of rehab, and she always knew she had at least three choices:  go to rehab, go to the police station and be arrested, or don't use drugs!  I chose to make it hard on her to choose drugs.  IT WAS MY JOB!!!!!!   p.s.  i was divorced too!

but do yiou relly think pointing a finger would have kept the twins off drugs? i dont they made the choice at a early age to use,and untill a addict is ready to stop nothing you do will change them, i would still be a drug addict if i could just blame some one for my drug habit i had, wow and let me tell you i love drugs, every day i get up i have a choice today i chouse not to use, ive made this choice for almost 10 years now, and i will make this choice tomorrow as well, want to know why i can say ill chouse not to use tomorrow? and know i will make that choise?becouse i know i made me use, no one but me could make me put a drug in my body, i threw away my pitty pot in rehab, the twins will have to throw thers away as well if they are going to get clean and stay clean, its too easy to relapse if you can say wow i got my ass beat when i was a kid im going to get me a crack rock and get high cause it takes away the pain and i feel better, all of us recovering from drugs know drugs do infact make us feel better, even when nothing is wrong, and we all loved the drugs we chouse to use no matter how bad they are for us we dont care becouse while were high we feel good bottom line, alot of parents dont even know the meaning of tough love, much less how to enforce it, cant blame a mother for that, no parent wants to see there children on drugs or in jail or dead, im sorry to see these young girls in so deep but if every one agrees with them in saying its moms and step dads fault they ever used we may well go ahead had put a loaded gun to there heads, becouse they will have a good reason not to stop using, i will do a little reaserch if you like and post it to give you a better picture of what im saying if it will help you understand, but i know i am a addict, and i know what it took for me to not want to use anylonger, i had to face the one that made me use, and it wasnt my dad or my mom it wasnt my sister or my brother, and not even my friend, nor the devil  lol it was me and me alone!<>

I am a recovering addict since 1984.  I am married to a man who has been in recovery for 35 years.  Both my husband and I still go to meetings, and reach out to others who want help.  The twins are sick & suffering, and I pray that they will reach out for help.  I know that it is there for them if they want it.  I have great concerns for Joani.  For one thing, a recovering person knows never to put themselves around those who are active without other recovering people with them.  A newly recovering person (Joani) should be working on herself & her program, & if another suffering person reaches out to her...she whould be there with her sponcer.  This is a very deadly disease, from which none of us in recovery are imune.  Joani, if you read this please know that my concern for you comes from many years in recovery & working in the field for 18 years.

The Disease Of Addiction

My name is Margaret Burtch, I'm a addict. I watch your show to day 11/20/06, the show was about the twin girls that had a problem with drugs. First of all the twins are in a process of the disease of addiction. When we use drugs our lives become unmanageable. The twins have to get sick and tired of using, and have to surrender to a God. For only God can lift the obsession and compulsion to use any mind altering drug, one is to many and a  thousand is never enough. In my story the progression of my disease was a slow downward spiral, it started with a cigarette and a bottle of Thunderbird. I progress to cough syrup, then micro-dots, and marijuana. Then I started snorting cocaine and heroin. At this point I was fully in my addiction. Then I started to smoke crack. I didn't know what was going with me. I went to a detox center, just to get some rest. I went to my first meeting in 1985. I surrendered on September 27,2006. I just celebrated 6 years without using drugs. Locking her up is not the answer. She has to have had enough pain and have to be willing to fight for her life. Everybody doesn't get clean. I lived some similar experiences. I lost two of brothers in the year of 1991. Some of us died for others to learn. The Disease of Addiction is progressive and fatal....

SHE HAS A VERY SHORT RECOVERY UNDER HER BELT, IN ADDITION WHY WAS SHE ENGAGING IN WHAT WAS PROBABLY ILLEGAL ACTIVITY?  WHY WOULD SHE TAPE A KID BEING SHOT UP FOR THE FIRST TIME?  UNETHICAL, IMMORAL BEHAVIOR!

11/20 The Dr. Phil House: Heroin Twins, The Intervention

Quote From: hopeful36

we love to blame others it all began in Genesis 3 with The Deception that resulted in The Fall

IMO the core cause is the void in our hearts; we try to fill it with a variety of things.  Drugs is just so "in your face" it seems to be more devastating.  But, actually it is just one of many terrible consequences of our fallen state. I believe Jesus is able to fill the void.

Drugs are one facet of our crumbling culture.

That said, addiction is very difficult to conquer. The bible teaches that a new life begins with new thinking;  As a man thinketh, so he is.  Remember, THERE IS HOPE!

For the addict who finds himself in the clutches of the demon the first step is to realize you are powerless.  Without Christ you can do nothing but with Him all things are possible to those who believe.  You need the Higher Power, There is Power, Power wonder working power in the name of Jesus.

Step two:  CHOOSE this day whom you will serve; the darkness or the Light.

Step Three:  Don't Give Up!  Remember You can Do ALL things through Christ who gives you strength.  It is never to late to make a U-Turn.

I promise, it works!  I've seen it.  I've experienced it.

Jesus has nothing to do with it.

I just asked if anyone knew if 70% of people who enter drug rehab go back to it up to the first year.  I was just wondering if anyone knew that to be true.
