oh politics, yikes!

I actually hate talking about politics.  I try to follow it, but not all that closely.  Just enough so that I can feel that I'm making something of an informed decision when I vote, and I  always DO vote.

I'm really torn this time.  I've always been in a bit of a pickle, because I would describe myself as fiscally (you know, about the economy and stuff) conservative and socially (gay rights, abortion-type issues) liberal.  Well, that makes it pretty darn tough to decide between democrats and republicans.  The dems scare me to death with the idea of increased taxes, and pulling all our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan before the job is done, and essentially wasting all the lives that have been lost so far, when everything takes a HUGE step backward in that part of the country as a result.  And yes, I'm impressed by Sarah Palin, but her pro-life and anti-gay stance also scares me to bits.  I do think it's ironic that she's all about insisting on privacy and respect for her daughter's decision to keep her baby and get married at 17, and yet she would like to take away the right for other girls in similar circumstances to make a different choice.

Ralph, I think, feels like I do - he said he's also concerned about talk of messing with the constitution and rolling back some of the basic rights we enjoy, but overall, he's a republican.  My Mom, on the other hand, who is quite liberal, but was leaning toward McCain, on the basis of some scary things she's heard about Obama, now says that she can't possibly vote for McCain, simply because Palin is on the ticket.

Oh really, I'd just prefer not to talk about it, I suppose.  And please don't ask me what happens inside that voting booth - I'll never tell.  Though... I know Mom will try to get it out of me.

Trace

Thanks for letting us know about Paula's visit.  I'm sure she loved every minute of it!  Well, Ok, maybe not the minutes she spent sleeping on the floor - ouch.  But otherwise, it just seemed like a normal day-in-the-life!  I love and admire you for being able to laugh and find beauty in your every day life.  Despite it all, you just have to laugh, right??

I'm finally all caught up, and I want to tell you about my weekend with Ralph --- but I've gotta get some sleep.  So you're just going to have to wait a while to get the scoop!!

Sorry!! ;-)

Polytyks

I must admit that is one thing I never talk about.  I don't vote.  I never have.  OK, I did once when I was 18 and my mom was running for re-election for Mayor of our small village....but she still lost.

Anyways, being that I am a Canadian Citizen and USA Resident (legally I might add).... I couldn't vote even if I wanted to.

That is my story and I'm sticking to it.

Peace out.

Walmart

I'm heading off to do some shopping shortly...do you know I live about 60 miles from the closest Walmart.  Really, I live 60 miles from the closest decent grocery store as well.  The small town just east of here has the essentials, but you need to take a loan out in order to buy your basic milk, eggs, bread, and some fresh produce.  So needless to say I make it a day "going to town"....my SIL is coming with, so its not so bad.

Is This Normal Social Discussion

Quote From: neecie24

Thank you for your kitty stories of a few days ago.  I enjoyed them so much, and appreciate your sharing.  Pets are awfully important in our lives, aren't they?  And the lucky ones, the ones who get to have loving homes like yours.... well, they'll always find their way back to that warmth and safety.

Here is a Daisy update for you!

Daisy always enjoyed going outside but since she came home I have not allowed it.  While she seems happy to be here she also has been crying often to go outside.  The girls and I discussed it and decided that we would get Daisy a pretty collar and put her name, our telephone, address and that she was the pet of 3 children.  This morning at 8:00 we opened the door and out went Daisy with her sparkly collar, note and a little bell.  45 minutes later I get a phone call from a woman who lives about a 1/4 of mile from me thanking me for putting the note on her.  Seems that Daisy found someone who fell in love with her and this woman was so upset when she disappeared and thought that Daisy had died.  She is over there now and I will go and get her later today.  The woman thought she was an older kitten that someone had discarded and thought she was the sweetest thing.   I am happy to share her with someone who loves her and this woman was very happy to hear that Daisy would be allowed to visit.  We've got it worked out and everyone including Daisy seems happy.

Mystery solved!
