Tap

 OUCH! Thanks, this is wild!

Time to figure out Linux perhaps.

I am somewhat cautious about how I navigate the web. I run Sygate as a second firewall and Avast anti-virus.  Both AdAware and Spybot are excellent. On top of this I run Spywareblaster and ewido security suite.

Check out

I used Mircosoft's  anti-spyware beta version (which is a fairly robust program) until they required you verify your copy of Windows with them. No thank you!

I ran though a proxy server for a while but found it slowed things down too dramatically to make it worth hiding my IP address.

I refuse all cookies and Java script unless they are absolutely needed.

Also, if I need passwords I use BugMeNot rather than register with any real info. (http://www.bugmenot.com/

Microsoft and security is an unbelivevably constant problem ... less than a month ago;

Microsoft warns of 'critical' Windows security flaw
Tue Dec 13, 2005 8:00 PM ET169

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday warned users of its Windows operating system of a "critical" security flaw in its software that could allow attackers to take complete control of a computer.

The world's largest software maker issued a patch to fix the problem as part of its monthly security bulletin. The problem mainly affects the Windows operating system and Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser.

Microsoft said the vulnerability exists in its Internet Explorer Web browser, which an attacker could exploit to take over a PC by running software code after luring users to malicious Web pages.

Microsoft also issued one other security warning it rated at its second-highest level of "important."

A vulnerability defined as "important" is one where an outsider could break into a machine and gain access to confidential data but not replicate itself to other computers, Microsoft said.

Microsoft defines a flaw as "critical" when the vulnerability could allow a damaging Internet worm to replicate without the user doing anything to the machine.

The "critical" flaw affects Internet Explorer which is a part of Windows while the "important" flaw is a vulnerability in the fundamental code that the higher level functions of Windows are all based on.

For more than three years, Microsoft has been working to improve the security and reliability of its software as more and more malicious software targets weaknesses in Windows and other Microsoft software.

PC Doctor has excellent information about the patch and how to info on installation;

A bit more including mirror site links for the patch can be found at;

The more I read the worse it gets.  Plus the fix seems to block ability to view photos in thumbnail form to upload here ... anyway test.

Wiener dogs ... I think if properly prepared they can be delicious ; )

Windows XP Home: obsolete sooner than you expect

1/3/2006 9:08:13 PM, by Ken "Caesar" Fisher

...

Windows XP Home is another story. As a consumer product, it suffers from two policy deficiencies. First, consumer products do not qualify for Extended Support, but instead move directly into the online support phase after Mainstream Support ends. Second, whereas business products are guaranteed Mainstream Support for two years beyond the release of the next subsequent version of a product (in this case, Windows Vista), consumer products do not get this built-in transitional period. The end result is that Windows XP Home will leave Mainstream Support and enter online support on January 1, 2007—in less than a year.

When that day comes, XP Home users may feel left out in the cold, because they will no longer qualify for security updates, and will not be able to purchase support from Microsoft. Finding this situation somewhat alarming, I contacted Microsoft's representation to clarify the matter.  A Microsoft spokesman relayed the following to me:

"For consumer products, security updates will be available through the end of the mainstream phase. For Windows XP Home Edition, there will be no security updates after 12/31/06." Regarding paid support for problems unrelated to security patches, I was told that "Users who want to continue to receive support after the Microsoft assisted and paid support offerings have ended may visit the Retired Product Support  Options Web site."

When I meant to say I was a 7. It's really not that bad. I never wear braces when I'm not working. I really am ok. Just ageing is all.

What is Misty's symptoms? I'm so sorry Tap. Why can't things just flow with no dang something else to deal with? *hugs*

Now that's better!  You had me worried about you.

Vicki!

Congratulations my friend!  You sound very happy indeed.  Sent you an email asking all kinds of practical questions, so you can answer whatever, whenever and wherever you want.  Also re-sent my mailing address.  So check your email, okay?

Would love to email pics but don't have them downloaded yet.  Sent a few via post to Tap and Sue.  I'm sure I could wrangle up a few more if you like (I'm sure we've got at least two hundred left!)

Again, I'm very, very happy for you and the girls.  I know it's too presumptuous to ask for a pic of the engagement ring, so you can send a pic of the tractor instead!

Hugs always,

Trace

Battle

Microsoft is going to drive all of its customers to open source software. From what I've read, Linux isn't ready for primetime yet, but I'm counting on the script kiddies to rise to the challenge. I know they can do it if they keep at it. The more evil the Microsoft becomes, the more motivated they will be, I hope.

You packed a lot of info into your posts and I'll explore tomorrow. (If it's not free, I'm not getting it. hehe) I wish the black hats would stick to messing with IE and quit attacking Windows until Linux can cope with Windows software. Well, I guess that's why they're black hatters.

Maybe when XP Home isn't supported, I'll reinstall 2k. *sigh* Why bother having legitimate software if it's going to have the shelf-life of a bag of potato chips?

Microsoft says it will release a patch for this latest exploit on the 10th. They're testing for quality and compatibility. hahahahaha

I'M BACK....

First off, I just want to wish you all a Very Happy, healthy and Safe 2006. I really hope Santa was good to you all and that you all enjoyed yourselves during Christmas.

We are all doing well and had a great time up at Mum and Dad's, mind you it was very hot and humid every day. Come back here and it's raining and alot cooler, and gee it's nice not to have swollen up feet!! As I had swollen up feet due to the heat at Mum and Dad's and at times it was very painful. Anyway, we all did very well in the Christmas present steaks and Stephanie of course had so much fun up at Mum and Dad's. I know that Mum and Dad just loved having their granddaughter up there.

So, how are you all doing? I hope you are all doing well. Hope to be able to catch up with you all very soon, till then please TAKE CARE, LOVE KELLY.

PS, It's good to be back here!!

HI CYGNE...

Quote From: cygne88

I saw the big fires North of Sydney. I hope you don't live in that area. I guess everyone in the world is getting some sort of climatic disturbance.

It was very nice of you to be concerned about my family and I being in harms way, but don't worry those fires were well north of us and where we live I don't think we would ever come in the line of any fires due to living in an area where there isn't much in the way of bushland as we have many homes around us, but thanks again for your thoughts.

Please TAKE CARE, LOVE KELLY.
