(Original Air Date: 12/1/06) Do you ever look in the mirror and think, "How did I get this big"? For Angelique, 28, her compulsive eating is becoming deadly. She is morbidly obese at over 500 pounds, is afraid to go to restaurants because she says she'll break chairs, has to sleep sitting up, and her mother is raising her daughter because Angelique is too big to care for her. How is Angelique literally poisoning herself? Robert Reames, trainer and nutrition expert, makes a surprise visit to Angelique's house to clean out her cupboards and get her started on her weight-loss journey. Then, DeeDee weighed 750 pounds when she first appeared on Dr. Phil. It took five men, a van equipped with a special lift, a motorized wheel chair and multiple oxygen tanks to get her to the stage. Have things changed for her, and are her children still trapped in her web of guilt? And, Jennifer lost 162 pounds but was so ashamed of her body because of excess sagging skin, that she could barely look in the mirror. Dr. Phil arranged for her to meet with top Beverly Hills plastic surgeons. Did surgery change Jennifer's view of herself? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Give them a break

Quote From: shmigelz

Im not a bad person but people who gain all this weight and then cry about it and always go why me, why me...

Im sorry but I dont feel sympathy for you people. Gaining the weight was all self induced. You all willingly choose to eat all the food you did.

Even the first woman of Dr.Phil today... I mean eating some pizza is one thing but eating 3 whole damn pizzas??? Gimmy a break here....

When I was in my early years like age 10 - 14 I wasnt fat but I wasnt skinny.... I did get bugged and picked on a little bit not alot but enough to bother me. BUT instead of feeling sorry for myself and crying about it, sitting on my bed and eating all day, I did something about it and took MY OWN LIFE and POWER back!

I started working out, going to the gym, eating better. I did it and researched it all on my own. No one helped me one damn bit. I didnt have to go on any talk show and cry or ask for help! I knew what I wanted and went and got it, like I said all on my own!!

So for anyone whos out there, over weight and crying abou their weight.. Do something about it!

IF IT WAS EASY EVERYONE WOULD BE DOING IT! But its not easy! It wont happen over night either. You gotta commit yourself long term, and be completely 100% dedicated or dont even bother......

The reality is. If you want your life back  you can get it but you gotta want it. Don't just sit there cry and whine about it and ask 'Why me, Why me!"

End of story.

Dear allow me to just comment quickly. Obviously you are not aware that addiction is a disease and it can come in any form. Now a disease is not something you can just  "do something about it". Mind you I am not an obese person at all, but I am a human service professional. So just as drugs can be an addiction so can eating. Their are certain neurons in the brain that fire toward certain pleasure centers. So give these people a break and just know that it takes professional help and a change of lifestyle to just "do something about it"! Just know NO ONE WOULD CHOOSE TO BE 3,4 OR 5 HUNDRED POUNDS, PLEASE.

this is what got me motivated

Zero hour" is that crucial moment when there is no turning back, and it confronts you to the very core of your self-respect. You have become so sick of your habits and your pattern of living that you realize you can no longer live your life in that way. It's what alcoholics call "hitting rock bottom," or what others call "reaching the end of my rope." It's when you make your mind up that it's not too late, that you deserve more, and that you will deny yourself no longer. It's when you wipe the slate clean and are ready to start over. It's when you decide to reclaim your health and your life. This means that being overweight has taken on a special standing and urgency, lifting high above your other concerns in life. You have boldly said to yourself: "That's enough. I don't care how much it hurts to change. I don't care what I have to give up. I won't take this another second, another minute, another day of my life. I am ready." You know that your dignity and indeed your very being can take only so much, and when you reach this point, you are ready to start living strategically. You want more so you are ready to do more, and are already taking action to get it. Your old way of living is thrown off like a dirty shirt. Change will happen because you make it happen. It will happen because you know what you want and will move toward it in a committed, focused manner.

IF YOU THINK YOU CAN, YOU CAN

I AGREE, THE HUMAN BODY IS MIRACULOUS, THE BRAIN MUST TELL IT WHAT IT WANTS TO DO.  AND WITH SOME HELP FROM THE BODY IT CAN BE DONE. I HAD A VERY BAD STROKE, THE DOCTORS TOLD MY HUSBAND, I WAS GOING TO DIE, WHEN I LEFT THE HOSPITAL THEY SAID I WOULD BE BED RIDDEN FOR EVER. WELL 4 YEARS LATER I AM WALKING WITH A LIMP, DID WELL FOR THE LADY THAT, DOCTORS THOUGHT WOULD NEVER LEAVE THE HOSPITAL.  IF U THINK U CAN, U CAN.  IF U THINK U CAN'T U WON'T.

FOR ANGELQUE EMAIL ME ANY TIME. I WILL BE YOUR CHEER LEADER.  U GO GIRL

Scared TO Lose, Scared NOT to lose

Quote From: flthomcat

Beautiful post from a beautiful person. Thank you for sharing.

Beauty definitely is on the inside, but the wrapping is what makes many people happy or sad, depending.

Healthy choices and exercise are the hard answers to weight loss questions. Most are heavy due to emotional issues....eating out of boredom and depression, etc (as was the case with me). I say was because I finally had enough and started a MEDICAL weight loss program. In 2 months I have lost 25 pounds, I eat healthy foods (veggies, whole grains, protein, etc) and my energy level has skyrocketed.

I had to hit rock bottom (medically) and decide that I wanted to LIVE FOR MY CHILDREN before I wrapped my arms around the desire to lose the weight. If I can do it, anybody can!

And my first gift to myself after losing ALL the weight needed is to get my bellybutton pierced w/ a diamond stud (yes, at 44 it's what I want)! That's my goal and I'm gonna make it!

Part of the reason I don't want to lose weight is because of being scared of all this skin, I cannot afford bypass surgery, and I DEFINITELY cannot afford to get surgery to remove excess skin.  Jennifer u were so blessed to have been chosen for this.

I wonder if there are things u can do to prevent all this?  I know they say if u lose it slow, and exercise it might go back because of its elasticicty but I don't know about that.......LOL

the undiscussed issue

We see how with Dr. Phil's personal attention (and his staff's attention)  and the financial assistance of the show, doctors, promoters, etcetra, people with problems can overcome their "challenges."    Very often, when people have these problems, they do not have these resources to enable them to "help themself."

First, many people who I meet offer their opinion and their solution with the "absolute knowledge of what they would do if they were you!"   They are there with support only if you can agree to their control of  your choices. If you have a different opinion than they have, they refuse to accept your right to your opinion and refuse to help enable you to meet your challenges as you choose. Pardon the expression but; 'there are many ways to skin a cat."

Then, it seems as though people are disrespectful of another who is facing a problem or challenge and is having difficulty resolving it..  There is little compassion for others (let alone charity to the very neediest of our society) from those with lives that go smoothly. With respect to non-financial  and financial support (refer to statistics concerning charitable giving and income levels), this is the  case.

Often, solutions require money and that may be much of the problem for some.  Our society helps the "very neediest," a very small segment of the needy; so, many people face financial difficulty in solving their problem.  There are few benefactors or public and private charities that can provide the financial solution for so many.

Our society values conspicuous consumption so much more than healthy relationships and a healthy environment. What can you do to change a society's values!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and individual values!!!!!!!!! to promote and provide healthy and warm, mutualistic (and charitable)relationships?

What can you do to change a society's values!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and individual values!!!!!!!!! to promote and provide healthy and warm, mutualistic (and charitable) relationships?  One person at a time strategies help very few!  I'm happy for the few; but, I pain for the many  who others are blind to. It's like putting your finger in a hole in the dike and the water pours in from all the other holes. (The water that poured over and through New Orleans was not insignificant. Some got out though !!!!??????)     The problems are many, the solutions are too few!

I agree Angelique you are stunningly beautiful.  I wish you lots of luck and success on your journey to get healthier.  And don't worry about what other people think or do, just worry about what God thinks.  He is the only one we need to worry about pleasing.  Take care and God Bless.  Hold your head high and just be strong.
