(Original Air Date: 12/1/06) Do you ever look in the mirror and think, "How did I get this big"? For Angelique, 28, her compulsive eating is becoming deadly. She is morbidly obese at over 500 pounds, is afraid to go to restaurants because she says she'll break chairs, has to sleep sitting up, and her mother is raising her daughter because Angelique is too big to care for her. How is Angelique literally poisoning herself? Robert Reames, trainer and nutrition expert, makes a surprise visit to Angelique's house to clean out her cupboards and get her started on her weight-loss journey. Then, DeeDee weighed 750 pounds when she first appeared on Dr. Phil. It took five men, a van equipped with a special lift, a motorized wheel chair and multiple oxygen tanks to get her to the stage. Have things changed for her, and are her children still trapped in her web of guilt? And, Jennifer lost 162 pounds but was so ashamed of her body because of excess sagging skin, that she could barely look in the mirror. Dr. Phil arranged for her to meet with top Beverly Hills plastic surgeons. Did surgery change Jennifer's view of herself? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

I'll trade places with you....

Quote From: batts74

Two and half years ago I weight in at 454 lbs. I since have lost 220 lbs. Yeah, I know how wonderful. But I have never been so depressed. I absolutely hate my life. I have no intentions of gaining the weight back don't get me wrong, but I have spent tons of money in therapy just to figure out how not to commit suicide. And I know I am not the only one I am currently in a support group and there are others who after weight loss are fighting the urge to commit suicide as well.

I have also had plastic surgery to remove some of the excess skin that doesn't help. It makes you look better on the outside, but its on the inside that counts.

I really wish that Dr. Phil or anyone would look into his the negative effects of weight loss. But I figure no one would be interested in knowing that there is a down size to lossing weight.

First of all, please let me congratulate you on the marvelous job you have done the change your eating habits, and with the impressive amt. of weight you've lost. I need to lose 150 lbs. and I am so sick and tired of my addiction to food, I think I am finally ready to begin a plan. But it's not just about fixing your body....it's about fixing your head first. I have battled weight for too much of my life, and I am just worn out. I'm not ever going to be happy until this is fixed...inside out...food is such an instant fix, isn't it? It appears so, but actually it just makes the problem spiral out of control, and it never fixes anything in the long run...doesn't even touch the reason inside you, why you do what you do.

Good job seeking the therapy...this is  so important. The weight is just the symptom of a much 'heavier' problem. I will pray that you find peace and comfort in your therapy. I will pray you will find satisfaction and a renewed sense of pride in your continued weight loss and with your new body image. I wish you joy and peace and love in all areas of your life. Way to go!!!!!

I am 46 years old batting with obesity since the age of 10. first diet at the age of 12 i was put on ww eating fish 5 nites a weak ... i was then 172 pounds and the goal was to be at 112.....my mom could not let me gain weight so she deprive me of food.... except that she did not change any family habits and the food in the house was very poor quality.....

So i have been going from diet to diet for 34 years now loosing thousans of pounds  but more importantly loosing my heart  and my mind..... so sick of this life of mine.....of course i have attain a goal weight  a lost of 115 pounds only to gain it back and more.....

In january of 2006 i decide to get help an i have had lapband surgery..... since then i have lost 80 pounds.... once again i taught i had found the magic stick how wrong i was....yes it is a tool for controlling the amount but not the quality of food .... so how good is it ..... everytime i reach my lowest point in my weigh in years i sabotage myself by gainning 10 pounds back.....i hate myself for doing it ....... when i am in control of my food  and thinner i feel like a million bucks..... and then i ruined it all......WHY.........i am so tired of life and myself......will the rest of my life be spent thinking of my image  and food..... if yes i don't see the point of me going on anymore..... my only  hope is to find psychologic help because i don't know  how to stop these taughts of suicide.....

Why is everybody and by that i mean goverment, industries  and society  is looking for a miracle pill to loose weight and not for the psychological aspect because from what i can read and ear it is all in the head.....

HELP""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Every time I try to lose weight, I give up.  I realize its not "dieting"... its a lifetime change.  Unless I am willing to make the changes in my eating plan for good, the weight will win.

What puzzles me are magazines.  They show beautiful cakes on their covers and then in bold letter "...how to lose 10 pounds in 10 days".  Weight losing companies sell desserts.  Dr. Phil, why do they do that?  LOL, can we have the cake and eat it too?

Dr. Phil that comment you made about eating the cardboard instead of the cereal.........priceless.  I use splenda also, but its the other stuff I eat I "gotta get real" with.  If cardboard is good enough for a goat, maybe it is good enough for me.

Hey there Pretty Eyes...

Quote From: esther4

I just wanted to let Angelique know that I think she is drop dead gorgeous!  (You have a super personality, too.)  I applaud your efforts to take control and get healthy, and wish you the success you deserve.
Angelique, I was so happy to see you this afternoon on Dr. Phil. girl; ) I am sorry your baby is being raised by your momma....girl, you take your power back and get that little girl back with her rightful mother. I am sure that your mother is doing the best she can, but that baby knows granny is NOT her mama. You need to keep your eyes on the prize (seeing yourself slender and healthy and full of energy playing with your little girl who loves and misses her mama right now. Is it going to be difficult taking that weight off??? Hell yeah it is. Is it impossible-not a chance.!! Fix what is eating you up inside your head first sweetie. Find out what is gnawing a hole in your beautiful head and heart, and let Dr. Phil help fix that with you. Get up and move!! Is it fun at this point-uh, not really. But sweetie it's a start, and that's how you beign...it's a start, and that is where you have to begin. I saw the computer images....girl you are just beautiful! Think how good you will feel when 250 lbs. comes off....you'll feel like a feather! You have everything=a gorgeous little girl who loves her mama, all the blessings that Dr. Phil has afforded to  you with his resources,  all kinds of people checking up on you and supporting you, and when that weight's all gone, you can show all the people in the world the miracle you have made happened. You are going to feel SSSOOOOOOOOO great about who you are and what you've done! Come on girl, inspire me. I'm gonna be watching you....come back and show me all your had work, OK???!!!!!! Best of luck to you honey-our prayers are with you in a big way:)

If you're hungry even after you've eaten

Have your doctor check you for insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia.  It's the sugar/insulin connection that causes the big hunger, overeating, and weight gain.
Also take the online test at CarbohydrateAddicts.com.

Carbs make me hungry because they force high insulin release, and insulin makes you hungry even when your stomach is physically full.
Those people who snack on plain popcorn or a piece of fruit, if you can do that and be full after a normal serving, it doesn't apply to you.  For me, it's an appetizer.

Suicidal...

Quote From: dreamheart73

I've been suicidal/depressed before and after my wt loss.  I think it has more to do with hormone levels.  I think you should see a psychiatrist, and maybe an endocrinologist- Thyroid problems, Hypothalamus problems, etc.  Getting thin didn't change my suicidal ideation.  It was more complicated than losing the weight.  I wish the best to both of you!

There is an organization called NAAFA.  NAAFA is an advocacy group for fat acceptance.  I think we have accept ourselves no matter what others say about us.  Maybe while we're working on the tush and tummy, we should work on our thought processes?

The reasons you explain, the skin removal, wondering if the weight loss will "save my life" and knowing I can never have pizza or Hershey bar, tells me even if I try to lose weight now, its not gonna happen.  I'm putting food over "matter.".

Obese Men

Quote From: desertnan

I, like so many other people these days, am obese, weighing around 228 on my 4'10" frame. I just finished watching Dr. Phil's show on weight problems and was so impressed with these three women and all the support they got from their families and from the experts Dr. Phil sent to help them out. I think the word diet should only be used for a short-term fix, like if you are three pounds over your ideal weight, then you would diet to get the three pounds off. Otherwise, it is a makeover of your eating habits that is needed. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and very high triglyceride levels, and have switched from foods apt to raise those levels, to foods that will lower them. Prevention magazine has a list of foods that will lower blood pressure, and a list that are low in cholesterol. You need to check labels for type as well as amount of fat in the foods, and don't go overboard. I tell my family I am not on a salt-free diet, I just need to reduce the amount. When I saw DeeDee's change from 750 pounds to her current weight, I worry over the looks she still gets as she is still very obese. No one looking at her will know she has been successful at losing 250 pounds. They will only judge her current appearance. I wish people would stop judging others and leave it up to the individual's family, doctor, or themselves to handle the problem and keep their objective noses out of it. My favorite snack had been potato chips dipped in a mixture of sour cream and chunky blue cheese dressing, washed down with Barq's root beer. Now it's unadulterated popcorn (no melted butter on it) washed down with a glass of iced water. Dr. Phil's suggestion to Angelique that she stop eating those 13 cheeseburgers a week works for anyone. Pick a food you shouldn't eat, and stop eating it. You can still have other things to enjoy so you won't miss the one food you stopped eating. Little steps over time will bring about a gradual change. And by the way, why are no men included? Men are in the Arby's commercials while women are in the Weight Watchers, Slim Fast and Jenny Craig commercials. Are there no obese men??? Good luck to all who are attempting to change their habits to lose weight and keep it off, and nuts to those outsiders judging anyone they feel is too heavy.

Look on DeeDee's face and that will tell you how proud she is.  DeeDee is smiling.  DeeDee didn't smile in the first segment.  Dee Dee looks like a smart cookie and won't take anyones crap.

I was at Walmart.  A gentleman made a comment to me about my size.  Thank goodness hubby was looking at clothes.  If he heard the comment he would've knocked him on his tush.  Anyway, Mom taught me to fight my own battles -- not with fists but words.  Anyway, I looked him in the eyes & said "...at least I can lose the weight, you'll always be ignorant."  Well, let me tell you, he huffed and puffed and walked away like a 2 year old.

LOL about the obese men remark!  John Goodman is large but he's handsome.  How about the guy who played Doug Heffernan on King of Queens?  And let's not forget Shrek?  Santa?  Ruben Stoddard?  Even Burt and Ernie.  I never seen heavy men in a weight watchers commercial.  They busy... drinking light beer.
