Kids across the country are playing pranks and harassing teachers. Tericka, a high school science teacher who loved her job, lived in fear of her scandalous past catching up with her and getting her fired. Students eventually found out about her shocking past and the news spread throughout town like wildfire. Are other teachers taking her side, or do they feel her punishment was justified? How can she move forward? Then, Anna, an assistant principal, was harassed on the Internet when two students created a fake MySpace page alleging to be her. She says they completely attacked her character and need to be held accountable for their actions. Was this just a practical joke gone bad, or were these students out for revenge? Find out what Anna did to show these kids that some jokes just aren't funny. Could the mischief your kids get into end up costing you thousands of dollars? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Assistant Principle

I am a future educator and am entering the profession to help children.  I know there will be tough kids to work with, I know my students and their parents may say unfavorable things about me, but who cares.  I know who I am, I know I will be an excellent teacher, that is what matters.  The women who was on Dr. Phil's show should be ashamed for trying to get money from these students' parents.  I understand they need to be held accountable, and agree, but money is not the solution.  I just don't buy her "I'm not safe" story.  I think it is a "I see money when I look at those people" story.

re: asst. principal suing teens about web page.

This is about the first time I really disagree with Dr. Phil.  I fully agree with the assistant principal who is suing the teens who put the filthy web page out under her identity.  She was trying to say that all they would get was a slap on the hand in the school system, and I believe this behavior of smearing tne principals name and putting her in a pornographic light on a web page that is broadcast to the world is pure evil.  I'm over 50, and can remember when teachers were respected and looked up to, even when they discipline the children.  The community would not tolerate anything less at the time.  Yes, I know the world is changing, but if people don't stand up to totally unacceptable behavior with all the legal ways they can, it will just increase until it will some day become common and acceptable.  I sympathize with the boys' parents in that they cannot supervise everything the boys do 24-7.  It would serve justice better if the boys would get a couple years prison time for this.  Yes, I think it is that serious.

12/06 Teacher Troubles

Quote From: mccreary

hello, Im only 18, and im not sure my opinion matters, but, isnt the whole point of school to learn from your mistakes. To make mistakes, and learn from them so that they dont make them again. Why cant a teacher make mistakes too. they are people just like anyone else, and i think that having that past would make her a better person for the job. she can show kids what not to do, and how not to get to the point she was at. I think that parents are way too overprotective of their children. What harm is she going to do for the kids now. she has been teaching for how long. she is deffintly a different person than she was way back when. what do you think shes going to start stripping infront of her class... parents need to take a chill pill. there are alot of people in the world that have had terrible pasts wheter it be drug addictions or alcholics or anything, they clean up their act and make something out of themselves. i think this teacher needs to say hey, you know what, i did do that, and im not proud of it. im sure there are alot of things in your lives that you arent proud of either.. nobody is perfect, and that doesnt exclude teachers.. thats why they are teachers.. to teach.. why cant life lessons be taught aswell!

Your opinions absolutely matter!  There is no rule that says you can't think below a certain age, so always speak up if you feel strongly ....and YES! Part of your education is to learn from your mistakes...that's part of the scientific process is to try things to see if they work! And when they don't work, try something else and don't do that again.

assistant principle/ teacher

I agree these kids playing a prank should be disiplined but not through the criminal justice system. I believe a civil lawsuit is even a bit much. I think this assistant principle obviously doesn't care about her students. I think this woman needs help psychologically. She is extremely emotional about this ordeal at a time when it would be better to be professional. I am in no way condoning the action of the students, I just believe that there is a more appropriate way to deal with rebellion than throwing children into the court system.

As for the teacher that is the ex porn star. I believe if the district does not want her teaching in the area then they should provide good recommendations for her to move to another disrict and the suspension should be cleared from her record. I cant believe that no one (aside from the lawyer) was at all concerned these kids are watching porn and sharing there finding with adults. The teenagers action was illegal even looking at this porn. In turn the children's illegal actions caused a teacher to be "let go" over actions that are legal even if immoral.

Everyone needs a second chance...

I think Anna is wrong in suing the parents and the students.  It is impossible for parents to watch their children 24/7.  We all know that children make mistakes and I think at this point those children are probably scared sh*tless.  The children need to be put to work doing community service probably until the end of their high school career. They owe the principle a public apology.  They should defiantly not have to live with the title of being a felon for the rest of their lives.

Tericka should defiantly be allowed to teach.  She has become a better person and doesn't deserve to have her life ruined by a mistake from long ago.  They should have done a background check when they first hired her if they are so concerned now about her being a past porn star.  Maybe they should do a background check on all teacher from that school, I'm sure they would find that other teacher weren't perfect when they were younger.  We didn't get rid of Bill Clinton, after he was elected president because of the whole "not inhaling" situation.  Everyone is allowed to make mistakes, it is a part of life.

Dr. Phil, You're wrong,wrong,wrong.

Quote From: homecook

Dr. Phil I cannot agree with you on this one.  Anna is to be applauded for her stand on this issue.  I agree kids in this country are so out of control because parents have  NOT stepped up to the plate and been parents for far too long.

I had this same type of situation happen to myself, our school principal, and the athletic director in our school just last year also on My Space.  The students we THINK did the sites had nothing done to them because there is no law to protect teachers from this type of happening.  The only thing the county could do was have their county school attorney attempt to get information from My Space about where and who created the websites and My Space refused to cooperate completely.  They protect the kids in creating these kinds of websites against anyone they choose.  We did NOT sue the students because one of the student's step father is a lawyer and the student's friend's father is also a lawyer ANd then state legislator.  We knew in a small town we had NO recourse on this at all.  The mother of the suspected student teaches on the same campus and she was told about the issue even before I was and she nor her son has ever  mentioned any kind of apology to myself or the other staff involved.  She too has even asked me for money for her classroom programs and other techology favors.

These are NOT even close to pranks that a huge number of students are pulling all across this country.  These are  hateful, degrading ,intentional acts by young people who do intentionally want to destroy teachers and administrators who work hard to do their jobs every day.  Teachers families and personal lives and dignity are at risk every day they step on campus and even at home IF students can find out where they live.

You are so wrong not to back this principal up better.  You are focusing only on the money and making her look greedy.  This type of harassment is becoming a huge problem for kids as well as adults.  These kids and their parents need to be held accountable.  If the lawyers were smart, they could knock this down to a misdemeanor, make the kids and their parents publicly and privately apologize, and give talks to other schools for a year, so other students would think several times before doing this type of thing.  If you think a felony count is too strict, they should be working on a plea agreement and monetarily, those kids should be working summers, giving up their cars, what ever to pay it off.   There are so many better ways to handle it.     It needs to be dealt with so it NEVER happens again.  But, you made the principal look and, I'm sure feel terrible.  I was so disappointed in you today.  I hope you get thousands of emails lke this.

Why blame MySpace

Quote From: bellybutton

Dr Phil is wrong.  MONEY does talk, and in this case it will act as a deterrent for future like action.

MySpace needs to ensure that this type of activity is not the norm; perhaps they should also be sued.  Their lax attitudes and security measures are totally UNACCEPTABLE.

it is not My Space's job to screen every member to make sure they aren't lying.  By blaming My Space students pawn off accountability.

Why isn't she a good role model?

Tericka has overcome a lot in her life to become a teacher. Is there any reason why she isn't a good role model? She was obviously having serious money problems, she was used, and she and she is suffering from a mental disorder. Yet, she pushed aside all of that, got through college and made something out of herself. She is a perfect example of how all great things are possible. A true American and a fantastic teacher who loved her job, and obviously cares about her students enough to not press charges on anyone, unlike the selfish money hungry vice principal. Now, I would suggest Tericka work at anther school for her sake, but still, I think any school would be honored to have such an inspiring individual on staff.

Cost of Education

Quote From: pharmd4me

I do not believe that the boy should be convicted of a felony? Really..come on! Yes, what he did was disgusting and horrible but to take it to court and sue is not going to make Anna feel better. How is she going to feel when the money is gone? She is still going to be upset. I don't think this extreme punishment is going to cause any changes in the system. Although the effects on this child's life will be eternal. Scare the crap out of him which I think has been done. Sit down and talk with him to get past it. I can see how devastating this incident can be to Anna. I participate on Myspace and I was very hesitant to put a picture on there for a long time because of identity theft and the different types of people on the internet and the possible things that could happen. There are alot of people on there and you most likely will not come across someone you don't know. The majority of people communicate with their friends, real friends-not internet friends, and they surf for people. If I was in her shoes, I would be highly upset but to not even consider forgiving a child will have a tremendous effect on everyone involved. If the education system is not set up to protect faculty then go to board members and they people you elect to represent You and your family on issues- that is what they are elected for. I agree changes are not going to be made in the courtroom. This is kind of a ramble but I needed to say something.
I am a college student right now and a wife and mother.  Do you know the high cost of education these days?  She should at least be monetarily compensated for her lawyer fees and embarrassment.  Maybe if these boys are held legally responsible it will send a message to others like them.

It is a sad statement on our society that this teacher felt her only recourse was in the court system but I believe it was her only choice. Money talks and that might be the only thing that speaks to these parents and students. Sad but true. Punishment within the school system is either too lax because of the student's rights or the schools are afraid to act. Detention, public apologies all sound good but let them go through the court system and the parents and students involved might finally get it. Neither of their letters sounded sincere. Saying sorry is easy - meaning it is a whole different story. Imagine the gall of these parents to be able to ask for favors and not be able to apologize in person. I think that speaks volumes. Perhaps that is why their kids thought they could play this "joke" on the teacher and never have to face serious consequences. The teacher is right and I applaud her for having the guts to go forward.
