Kids across the country are playing pranks and harassing teachers. Tericka, a high school science teacher who loved her job, lived in fear of her scandalous past catching up with her and getting her fired. Students eventually found out about her shocking past and the news spread throughout town like wildfire. Are other teachers taking her side, or do they feel her punishment was justified? How can she move forward? Then, Anna, an assistant principal, was harassed on the Internet when two students created a fake MySpace page alleging to be her. She says they completely attacked her character and need to be held accountable for their actions. Was this just a practical joke gone bad, or were these students out for revenge? Find out what Anna did to show these kids that some jokes just aren't funny. Could the mischief your kids get into end up costing you thousands of dollars? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Cast the First Stone!

Dear Dr. Phil:

I am a Christian writer who got my degree in Christian studies, and I wouldn't even begin to have the time to explain all of the garbage I've been through during the past few years which led me to just about lose all faith in 'people', and especially those of 'the church'...(or the so-called, (and self-entitled),  'righteous people').  And just when I think I might possibly 'find my way back', so that I might be able to return to services and feel 'at peace'...something like today's show comes on, and reminds me of all the 'hypocrisy', 'hatred', and 'personal evils' that lurk within the hearts of most of those around us.

There is no way that I could ever condone doing 'pornography' for someone who actually wanted to live a 'focused-on-morals', 'socially-acceptable' lifestyle...but, at the same time...it absolutely 'grinds my gears' and 'sets my teeth on edge' to have to listen to the 'self-righteousness' of others who have absolutely NO RIGHT to judge anyone other than themselves.  Who are any of us to judge anyone else by the mistakes made in the past??!!  And 'who' would be willing to lay out every mistake they'd ever made in life for the whole world to see?!  I'd like to meet the person who hasn't made embarrasing and immoral mistakes!...and I'd like to ask these 'pharisees' on your show today if they would like to have their entire background put on display, and allow us judge their 'work' on what they 'did' back then, or the mistakes they've made!

Thank GOD!!...that these people are NOT God!  And NO ONE has the right to 'judge' anyone, except Him!  Your guests should not allow these hypocrites to make them 'feel' any 'less' of a person - just because they found out something that they'd hoped had been buried.  I am 'one' who is totally dedicated to doing what the Lord wants me to...and yet...I would rather have the teacher who used to do 'porno' - (but struggled to change their life around) - teaching my kids, rather than the 'self-righteous' fools who ousted her! Personally, I, wouldn't want the 'character flaws' of the 'hypocrites' to rub off onto my childrens' growing psyches!  Just 'who' do they think they are?

All I can say to the teacher whose job was taken from them unjustly - (and to the hypocrites who deemed themselves worthy to be their judge...) - is to remind them of 'who' God's own Son 'hung out with' when he visited this earth.  Jesus didn't feel the need to be in the company of those who already thought of themselves as 'upright and perfect'...He, Himself, said that "...He came to seek and save the lost..." !  He spent nearly all of His time with prostitutes, thieves, and every other kind of criminal.  (And by the way...He got the same reaction from the people in His day, as the 'ousted teachers' of today's show did.  ...so they're in good company!)  Also...they should never forget what He said as He crouched down, writing in the sand, and considering the actions of all the 'upright citizens' who had just thrown an adulteress woman before Him, wanting His approval to 'kill her for her actions'.  God's own Son replied with..."...He who is without sin - cast the first stone!..."

Amen to that!  (And, think about that...you hypocrites of today's show!)

laying charges against students

Hello all, I have been pondering what was said and suggested by Dr.Phil to the teacher that is laying charges against students that used Myspace in an attempt to anonomously attack the assistent principle of their school.

The teacher spoke about one way she would use the money, that she may recieve, to fund educating young people about the wrongs that these youngsters commited against her person. Uh Dr.Phil just Educated a heck of a lot more young people in one show, than any paltry sum she may recieve from the courts can.

Also, it is my opinion that trying to get a monetary restitution really really detracts from the primary issue, in this particular case. What I am trying to say is from my perspective, it seems to me the money is the issue not the crime. I truely do believe that Doctor Phil was trying to come up with an appropriate solution to the problem.

Truely throwing money at a problem has never been known to fix it. Attempting to gain accountability through monetary means is folly, it sends a message you can hurt people, just have the money to throw at them and they will go away. Seriously this scared the bee jees outa me! There is a better way, and Doctor Phil and some previous posters has mentioned some great ones.

Furthermore, Dr.Phil did touch on the cognative development of youth, and this woman conceded she was aware the stages of cognative development. These youths will realize the full magnatude of what they have done as they get older, and as each year passes their sense of remorse, and regret will change. I don't belive that this event in their lives will be forgotten but will be reflected on many many times as they grow older, and it will not be a event remembered with fondness I am sure.

What they did was dreadfully wrong, but I can not reconcile myself to believe that making them pay for the rest of their lives with a felony charge is fair or just. I say with sincerity if it is money that you wish you should speak to the parents about settling this out of court. Because Two wrongs never ever make a right. As for educating Dr. Phil was so right when he said let the youths speak publicy of the shameful act and consequences in its entirety.

As for living in fear for the rest of your life, all people have fears real and imagined, but more often than not we don't stop living life because of it, rather most face it and realize that the phantoms causing us to flee in terror were of our own making, and the real fears we hopefully face head on and show Fear, that Fear has nothing to Fear But ME! haha

Thank you for all who have shared their thoughs and feelings and allowing me to share mine.

wrong, who is going to make these kids accountable?  they have more rights then the staff.  there would be lawyers lining up to protect tem.  i don;t believe their parents would make sure they did a punishment, they were not made to apoligize to this women.  i hate to say it   there is alot of realyy crappy kids out there!

"i hate to say it   there is alot of realyy crappy kids out there!"

they didn't raise themselves. if there are a lot of really crappy kids out there (awful thing to say!), then it's because there are a lot of really crappy environments out there that kids are being forced to grow up in. Why don't you address that instead of insulting children?

Regarding the Anna Draker case:

1.  This is a case of libel, defined as:  defamation, a false and malicious published statement that damages somebody's reputation.

2.  Libel is punishable under law.

It doesn't matter why the teens did it, where the teens did it, to whom they did it, when they   did it,  or how they did it...does it?

It didn't happen at school, so why would it be a school issue?

Exactly.

12/06 Teacher Troubles

Quote From: brittany1

I totally disagree with Dr. Phil said about teachers being over worked and under paid.  In my school district the average teacher works 8 months a year and makes an average $47,000 a year not to mention the benifits.  The teachers in this school district DOES NOT take resposability for there actions, however, the kids and parents are expected to.

I have had children in the school district for 15 years and I am counting down the months until my 15 year old graduates.  I have had a teacher tell me to get a real job, I have had a teacher schedual a meeting for her and I to meet and when I get there I am asked if we can have this meeting with an administrater present-when the teacher walks down to the principles office she leaves the building because it was past 3:30 and teachers are only contracted until 3:30.  The best one was my 18 year old was taken by ambulance and the only way I found out is one of his friends called me to let me know of the situation.  The principle told me that because he was 18 it WAS NONE OF MY BUISNESS!  That is just a few of the instances that have happened at the high school.  At the middle school I was told last year at conferences that our son was doing poorly in science and when the teacher told me what he would do if it was his child ... why he was doing poorly on tests?  If he was using his agenda?  I asked him politely "all of those things will be addressed when I get home but I have one question-- why did it take you 7 weeks for you to notifiy me that there was a problem when he clearly was having trouble from day one?"  He said--IT WASN;T HIS JOB!  After that I contacted the assistant principle and after waiting for 2 days for a return phone call she said that it wasn't the teachers responsability to help my son pass his class.  The above reasons (and there are many more) are why I can't support teachers or the administration staff.

What the kids did to the assistant principle is wrong and they should be punished, but I don't feel as though it should be threw the court system.  They should be punished threw school.  After school detention. washing walls, cleaning bathrooms, and then community service to help others.

The assistant principle should also find it in her heart to forgive those boys-because they are boys.  They should not have a criminal record to haunt them for the rest of there lives just because they made a bad choice.  If they go to court she should not be awarded any money except for what she put out of her own pocket--dr visits ect.  Any other moneys awarded should go to a school fund to help educate under priviledged children or adults.

As far as the parents go they should not be sued because they didn't cause the issue - the kids did and so did technology.   I didn't catch how old her children are but  if they are young now there will be things they will do when mom is not around.  However, I do believe that it is the parents responsability to teach children right from wrong.  And those principles have been tarnished since the 60's when DR. Spock wrote his parenting books.

Where's this school?!  47,000!  I'm sure it's on par with cost of living.  I'd love to work there!  We are under paid becuase we're educating the foundation for the future of this country.  There would be no doctors, no lawyers, no artists, no musicians, no police, no management and no Dr. Phil without teachers!

2nd bad career choice

I can't believe someone making such a bad early choice to go into the porn industry would follow it up with an equally bad choice to go into education of adolescents knowing the ramifications. I fully support the school's decision - I know I wouldn't want my kids taught by such an induvidual. There are many places for a person to work where supervision and mentoring of youths is not a factor and that should have been her choice. I'm not totally condeming her porn background - just don't think it's good "credentials" for the teaching profession.

- only a suspension???  if it was a school situation - but this obviously wasn't! The kids and parents weren't attentive or scared until someone made then accountable for their actions.  Out of school = the court system!

Exploited Twice....or forever...

We have a former president who was involved in several 'naughty actions..of the sexual kind..But we did not FIRE him...HE was the Leader of our Nation...I want to know where the Parents are of the Children who were VIEWING THE TAPE OF THE TEACHER and why the kids have access to PORNO in the first place..Oh...Uhm..BAD PARENTS..What kind of kids are you raising..It is just disgusting...Too many double standards.

I asked a young.mother "why she was wearing a t-shirt...that had the charming expression " Barbie is a slut."...across her chest.?."  She said she thought it was funny.. I asked her if her little girls name was Barbie?   She was horrified. and found my remark insulting..  I told her I thought what I said was funny..ANd she was the one wearing the shirt. with SLUT across her chest.  PEOPLE what messages are we sending to our kids..COME ON..

This teacher did some very regretful things..She made porno movies. Really bad choice...I say she should be judged on her teaching..and leave the past behind..or maybe we can burn her at the stake..And hand out the porno movies to the young boys because after all..BOY WILL BE BOYS..Just look at some former presidents..!

You're cracking me up ...

Quote From: momakababe

this teacher is an educatior in the education system & our kids are living in a world that is a LOT tougher than we ever delt with.  They HAVE to be smarter than us & TOUGHER too.  They deal with teachers, peers, parents etc. 24/7 & if they make a mistake in their lives that's it it's over.  Unlike when we were kids & if you made a mistake you were grounded & made to pay for your mistake with community service of some kind or directly to that person you did wrong.  I remember these lessons as a kid & today kids are suppose to know the lesson without it being taught bcause instead of being taught the police are called & their parents are sued!   When I think of the mistakes I'd made as a kid & those same mistakes being made today I cringe.  And you're wrong Anna's pain isn't the only one that matters.  She became an educator because she wanted to educate & teach CHILDREN & I can't imagine when she decided to teach she thought that none of them were going screw up right?  Teens are born angry & if she's teaching them she has to be prepared to deal with them.

I feel sad for your kids if you're thinking they have a "know who I can screw radar" & it doesn't say much for your parenting skills.

You just proved my point ... they need to be held to a much higher standard than anyone of us ever was.  I'm 25 years old and much closer in age to my teenage students than you are.  Trust me when I say that the ABSOLUTELY know the damage of their actions.  That's where the whole rebellion comes in - why exacty do they get all sorts of stuff pierced, dye their hair magenta, and wear the things they wear?  They know it will get a rise out of certain people and BINGO - mission accomplished on their part.

It WAS NOT a mistake.  Like their fingers ACCIDENTALLY created a fake MySpace page under someone else's identity.  Or maybe they ACCIDENTALLY made the slanderous comments.  Or how about this ... I'm sure this is it - I bet someone else FORCED them to do all these things, thereby totally exonerating them from any blame.

I don't want humans of this caliber even serving me a burger at McDonald's.

And you're mistaken ... teens are NOT born angry.  They are taught the behavior and as adults, it's our job to disallow it.  Unfortunately not all people respond well to "slaps on the hand," and it takes some very clear-cut consequences to drive the very simple concept through their thick and ego-inflated heads.

The teens these days are made to feel that they're invincible.  And with parents that make excuses for every 0 in the gradebook, fart, and smart aleck comment made to a teacher, it's no wonder ....

Adapt and progress with society.  Do you really want to make excuses for this sort of illegal behavior?  Next someone will be saying that it's a student's perogative to shoot up a school.

12/06 Teacher Troubles

Quote From: britmama14

I was a teacher in the Detroit Public School System.  Seven years ago I had to take a disability retirement due to bone problems.  It was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

I really loved the first grade students that I taught, and was a very creative  reading and math teacher.  However, I encountered racism from the black parents.  I am white female married to a Hispanic man. Detroit has a huge drug problem. Too many of the parents are apathetic, and do not mentally or physically care for their children.  There are lack of meals, warm clothing, encouragement, etc.

Although I have a master's degree plus 60 credits beyond, and spent 8 years, minus 2 summers in college, I think my bone problems were a blessing in disguise.  Teaching is very stressful and so many times thankless.  I try to remember the parents who were good to their children, who did appreciate my work, the many children who were happy when they were learning in my room, earned prizes, etc.  but the bad far outweighed the good.  I really hated it when parents played the race card.

Detroit NEVER has enough text books, work books, pencils, crayons, etc.  I spent in excess of $3K each and every year in the basics.  We were only provided with one case of duplicating paper, and of course had 28+ students in the classroom.  One year I had 37 first graders and NO HELP.  The stories you hear about no toilet paper are TRUE.  There are broken toilets, no doors for privacy, facets that do not work, and hand soap?  You must be kidding.  Where is the health department?

Stress of course is on the administrators from their administrators, and parents who frequently are argumentative and on crack.  Teachers get it both from their administrators and from the parents.  Sound like a job from hell?  Well it is.  My last 6 months on the job were spent each morning with uncontrollable convulsing, trying to vomit, with nothing coming up.  I would highly advise anyone thinking about going into teaching to spend a week in an inner city school system before you think about doing the coursework for the job.  And for those of you who do not believe me, do the same.  Volunteer for a week in your neighborhood school and see what goes on in there.  You will get a renewed respect for teachers, administrators, educational assistants, etc.  Kids are out of control, there seems to be very little to be done, except exclude them, and then when they come back, more times than not, their behavior has not changed too much.  Counselors and social workers are either not hired as the budget does not permit it, or are so overworked with huge caseloads, that it is barely a bandage.

It all starts in the home.  School is no substitute for good parenting.  Parents need to parent, and teachers need to educate.  It is impossible to do when children have no self control.  It all begins in the home.

Am I negative about children, school and teaching now?  You bet.  Am I glad I am out of there?  You bet.  Again, don't believe me? Spend a week, not an hour, not a day, but a week in your local school.  You will get a true perspective.  It is my hope that I reached  at least one person in the entire United States, and they have gone to their local school to check things out.

This program has not aired yet, so I will reserve my comments on the teacher firing.

I am soooo glad you are no longer teaching!  I have been a Detroit Public School teacher for 19 years. Yes, sometimes it is difficult and frustrating. But because so many of the students are so needy I know my job is extremely important, and it is very rewarding to me.

But, honestly, it isn't just a job.  It's a calling. And everyone is not up to the challenge.  Sometimes you have to fight the parents and the administrators to give the children what you know they need. And many times you're out there on your own, feeling like you have no support from anyone.

What you have to do is not feel like a victim; enlist the support of anyone who will support you, and keep pressing forward. Accept all successes, from the smallest to the greatest, and let the children know that you expect success from them. When you start to beleive you're a victim, you stop expecting success, and you set up the students for failure.

Just because a person has teaching credentials does not mean they need to teach children.
