Dr Phil and Robin's Christmas Show

Quote From: jobr7683

I think some people need to get over feeling blue about Christmas. My dad passed away a year ago a few days before Thanksgiving. He wouldn't want any of his kids or grandkids feeling sorry for ourselves. He loved kids, so when dad passed away, we asked that all  memorials be made to the friend in deed in Illinois. They help kids at christmas. Dr. Phil is like Santa, he is always giving, and caring. I remember when I was little actually until about the age of 13, I aways saw Santa at the Sears store in Spfld. Illlinois, my brother and I aways took him something, candy, pencils, paper, etc. He was my santa, He passed away a couple years back. Who ever doesn't like Christmas needs to go to church and learn the real meaning Christmas. It's Christ birthday. Don't ever stop beleiving. Christmas is suppose to be a time for sharing, giving, and loving. My dad will aways be here for us, even thou he's not here on earth, he's in our thoughts and prayers. The scrooges out there need to grow up and start thinking about others instead of feeling sorry for theirselves. Merry Christmas and Happy New year. 2006

I totally agree! Its funny to go back and read message posts from a few days ago on how great Dr Phil is and how wonderful he is.... Then today its why can't we have presents too? why don't you include your at home viewers? Dr Phil is including the at home viewers by letting us register to win some of those prizes tomorrow. Christmas these days is all about who's getting what presents for and from who and no longer about Jesus and His amazing birth. Viewers on this message post are sounding like a bunch of greedy scrooges in my opinion!

Dr Phil and Robin if you do actually come on and read these... You all are doing a wonderful job and if you all decide not to include the at home viewers after reading some of these other posts I don't blame you a bit! Keep up the good work.

You a blessing

Dr. Phil and Robin and staff.  You are a blessing and thank you for being humble this year and all the time.  We always forget what the real meaning of Christmas which is giving and not getting and I am fighting that this year.  I have never really focused on getting things because I know that Christmas is about Christ being born, but watching your show today really woke me up and that I should be thankful that I am living and my family is doing fine even though I have pain in my body.  But when I think about the Katrina victims, I just pray that they do have a wonderful Christmas.  My brother was a victim and he is doing OK.  Still miss New Orleans, but he realize things happen for a reason.  I pray for other people and their familes because I just love to love and I see that yall are that type of people.  My husband usually does not like talk show, but he sat down one day and watch yours and when ever I say that I taped your show, he will watch the show because you are very real and straight to the point to help people and not just for popularity.  May God Continue to Bless you and your family and the staff and have a blessed 2007 because God is watching you and acknowledges that you are right with the riches you get.

12/11 Dr. Phil and Robin’s Christmas Show!

WHAT IS THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS?

Christmas is the church's celebration of the Incarnation, the supreme mystery that the holy and almighty God took on human flesh and was born in this world of the Virgin Mary.  God became one of us in order to die for us and save us from sin, death, and the power of the devil.  A mystery this profound can't be contemplated in just one day.  This is why the church pauses during Advent to prepare for the Lord's coming.  This is also why Christmas extends for a period of twelve days and leads directly into the breathtaking festival of the Epiphany, the day and season the church sets aside to ponder the many ways Christ revealed Himself to the world as God Incarnate.

Besides Christmas, there are other December festivals that help believers recall the true meaning of Christ's birth.  The three days immediately following Christmas Day are sometimes called Witness Days.  December 26th honors Saint Stephen, Deacon and Martyr, the first Christian to die for his faith (see Acts 7:54-60).  December 27th is the Festival of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist.  John was the disciple whom the Holy Spirit inspired to write the gospel lesson appointed for Christmas Day, the beautiful words that summarize the miracle of the Incarnation:  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… (see John 1:1-18 for the complete text).  December 28th is a memorial to the Holy Innocents, the baby boys of Bethlehem who were murdered by King Herod in his insane attempt to exterminate the Christ-child (see Matthew 2:16-18).  On the surface, these festivals have little in common with each other or with Christmas Day.  However, each of these days helps us better understand the true meaning of Christmas.  Saint Stephen willingly gave up his life to preach the gospel of Christ.  The Innocents of Bethlehem were martyred without their choice.  The apostle John endured persecution and exile for the sake of the gospel.  These three days remind us that it is precisely because of the ugliness and magnitude of our sins that Christ had to be born in to the world so that he could live, suffer, and die for all people.  The Witness Days also remind us that the lives of Christians will sometimes be touched by hardship and misery, and that Satan and the world are enemies to the saving message of the gospel.  But in spite of our sins, the devil's machinations, and the world's sorrow, Christians are able to rejoice in God's Son, Jesus Christ, born two thousand years ago in Bethlehem to die for us.

Another special commemoration takes place on January 1st, the Eighth Day of Christmas.  Eight days after the Lord's birth, Mary and Joseph had Him circumcised as required by Jewish law.  At His circumcision, He was also formally given the name Jesus (see Luke 2:21).  The significance of this day is twofold.  First, circumcision was the visible sign of God's promise to Abraham and his descendants (see Genesis 17:1-13).  In the cutting of flesh and the spilling of blood, we see a prophesy of Christ's death on the cross for the sins of the world and the fulfillment of God's ancient promise to bless the children of Abraham.  Second, we receive yet another glimpse of the true meaning of Christmas in the name Jesus, which means "He saves."  As recorded in Matthew 1:20-21, an angel spoke these words to Joseph concerning the child that Mary was carrying in her womb:  Joseph… do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

Christmas trees, Santa Claus, decorations, exchanging gifts, and the many other seasonal traditions that most of us observe are wonderful ways for family and friends to mark this time of year.  What we must all take care to remember is that these customs, enjoyable as they are, ultimately have nothing to do with the true meaning of Christmas.  The true meaning of Christmas -- the "reason for the season" -- is found only in the message of the gospel.  Here it is, so beautifully encapsulated in John 3:16:  For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

WHY DOES CHRISTMAS FALL ON DECEMBER 25TH?

While Scripture contains many details about Christ's nativity, it does not record the exact date of His birth.  However, ancient documents show that the Christian community in Rome began celebrating the Lord's Nativity on December 25th starting around the year A.D. 336.  No one knows for sure why the early Roman Christians chose December 25th, but the most widely held explanation is that they appropriated the already existing winter solstice festival honoring the pagan sun god, Mithras.  This popular festival was known as natalis solis invicti or "Birth of the Unconquered Sun."  According to this theory, Christian leaders in Rome chose December 25th to turn people away from the pagan Unconquered Sun and toward Jesus Christ, the Sun of Righteousness (see Malachi 4:2).  This connection to the Roman sun cult has led some contemporary Christians to reject the celebration of Christian as pagan and sinful.  On the other hand, there is also some evidence to suggest that the choice of December 25th was based on attempts by early theologians to calculate the date of Christ's birth and that it had nothing to do with the natalis solis invicti.  The article Calculating Christmas by William J. Tighe discusses in detail this explanation of the date of Christmas.

WHAT DOES THE WORD "CHRISTMAS" MEAN?

The modern English word "Christmas" comes from Christes maesse, "Christ's mass," the Old English name for the service of Holy Communion that commemorates Christ's birth.  Familiar names for Christmas from other languages, such as the Spanish Navidad and the French Noël, are derived from the Latin, dies natalis, "Day of the Birth."

WHAT IS CHRISTMAS?

Christmas is the season during which Christians everywhere give thanks to God the Father for the birth of His Son, Jesus Christ.  This joyous cycle begins on December 25th, the Festival of the Nativity of our Lord, more commonly known in English-speaking countries as Christmas.  Along with Easter and Pentecost, Christmas is one of the three great festival days of the church.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT ARE THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS?

Christmas is not a celebration that lasts a single day.  As stated above, Christmas is a twelve-day season that begins on December 25th.  These "Twelve Days of Christmas" are in turn part of a longer liturgical cycle that begins with Advent, continues after Christmas with Epiphany and the Sundays that follow, and ends with Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.

Wishes you the very Merriest of Christmas!!

For the first time in my life, I have to say I am sad this year.  My husband is working part time at Radio Shack and  I lost my job due to stress and anxiety.  My husband is a Millwright by trade and there has been no work.  I have a 9 year old grandson whom I love so very much and am not going to be able for Santa to bring him anything.  I would love to be able to get my Son and Daughter-In-Law something and even my Husband.  That would be my Christmas present just to make them happy.  I am trying my best to  find a part time job so that I might be able to get him something.  I am so thankful for people like you & Robin that give from their heart and am happy for those you are helping.  Keep up the wonderful work!!!  Oh by the way I watch and record your show everyday, it helps me keep going!!!  Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Best Christmas Gift

Happy Holidays to everyone.  The one thing I wish for Christmas would be to get my teeth fixed.  As I have been a single mom since 97 ( 4 kids all grown on thier own now) .  I'm embarrassed to smile.  Was even asked not to smile at my 1 of my daughters wedding.  It hurts when you meet someone and when they see your teeth, they end the conversation.  So they dont have to look at you.  I am so impressed with you ( Dr. Phil ) and Robin.  For making so many peoples Christmas a little brighter.  One day I would love to be on a show with giveaways.  My van that I got from the divorce has no AC, no Vent blower, no Heat and the drivers windown doesnt go down.  But at least I can get around in it.  We all have blessings to give thanks for.  And like my late mother would say, " No matter how bad you think you have it, somewheres someone has it 10 times worse.  So with that I give you and your family a wonderful Happy Holidays.  And to all the world may we find peace and joy with the many blessings we have.    Thank You    ^i^  to watch over all...........    Angeltouch59

12/11 Dr. Phil and Robin’s Christmas Show!

Quote From: saved_by_grace

What Dr Phil and Robin did for their audience was unreal!  It would be wonderful if they could broaden the giveaway to include some of those in the home and computer audiences.
I don't think that would work very well...I just see this as Dr Phil's way of giving gifts to those he cares about...including his audience. He has to draw a line somewhere, and this seems to be a good one.

I agree w you

Quote From: berrypie

I don't know what it is. I am not depressed, but I don't get the big deal with Christmas.  I don't even want to see this show, I don't want a tree or anything.  I've heard other people who used to love Christmas like me say the same thing.  Anyone else out there going through this?  Sure, I can't really afford much anyway, but I've always really tried hard every Christmas to make a big deal out of it.  I wouldn't feel guilty about this new outlook I am having, except that I have a five year old son.  I don't want him to grow up thinking he's missing out on the fun.  Am I crazy?  I am glad Dr. Phil is using this show to help people and not just show off a bunch of expensive junk.  Although I am sure there will be lots of that too.  Anyone else out there with me?

I think its all the stress it brings that just seems useless.  It's just for one day, and after that its over-hope that helps?  Youre NOT crazy, believe me.    You could do like a smaller, more intimate Christmas, so that your son gets the experience, but on a smaller scale.  Or say that the elves are on strike this year, so Santa can't do as much...

Nice Xmas show.

Its been a hard 2 christmas's with me being sick surgeries and all. I try to think of all the people that are worse offt than us, and it helps a bit. Its very hard to get in the holiday spirit when your in pain and it hurts your children to see in you cry in pain, when surgery is coming up very soon..a serious and dangrous one at that and at 39 its hard to sink in.

The show was wonderful I even taped it for my husband to watch when he gets home...

Thanks for all the toys that were donated to toys for tots, so that some children have something to look forward to. Also thank you for being so generous to your audience members.

A very happy holiday to the Dr. Phil staff and family, and everyone else in the world having a hard time getting into the spirit.
