That's because so much of it is the wrong deal!

Quote From: berrypie

I don't know what it is. I am not depressed, but I don't get the big deal with Christmas.  I don't even want to see this show, I don't want a tree or anything.  I've heard other people who used to love Christmas like me say the same thing.  Anyone else out there going through this?  Sure, I can't really afford much anyway, but I've always really tried hard every Christmas to make a big deal out of it.  I wouldn't feel guilty about this new outlook I am having, except that I have a five year old son.  I don't want him to grow up thinking he's missing out on the fun.  Am I crazy?  I am glad Dr. Phil is using this show to help people and not just show off a bunch of expensive junk.  Although I am sure there will be lots of that too.  Anyone else out there with me?

The wrong deal, like so much of the consumer world. I don't think you're crazy at all.

I like to have beautiful things as much as the next person...depending on who the person  is beside me,  and I am always grateful for wonderful presents...neverthless some of my BEST Christmas memories happened far from the frenetic malls and hypedup advertising kind of Christmas.

One year I didn't even have money for presents for my out of town daughter and my siblings; so  I volunteered at my church during children's pageants, and had a ball helping kids get into their costumes for the many performances happening that weekend. I really had a blast, and I felt so full and happy. Another time, I opened presents from my darling daughter and my siblings on air in a Christmas Day show  on campus-community radio. I told impromptu stories of memories I had about each of those dearly beloved people....and loved doing it! I felt so full of love and warmth.

If we find our own way of doing Christmas, and our own way of being grateful for life, Christmas can mean a whole lot more than what we see on TV and in magazines. So much of what we see is superficial and contrived.

I hope  you have a library nearby, so you can take your son there before Christmas...it would be rare for a library not to have Christmas decorations and great activities. Also, most children's departments of libraries have a copy of the awesome picture book, POLAR EXPRESS..and if you're lucky enought to have a VCR and a TV, they'll surely have a video of the movie from a couple of years ago. That movie is a beautiful way to look at Christmas...it's about the magic of believing , not just about presents. My boyfriend's 97 year old mother sent us a Christmas card of The Polar Express the year before she died...the Hallmark  inscription in it said "Though I've grown old, the bell still rings for me - as it does for all who truly believe." It added, MAY YOU ALWAYS BELIEVE IN THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS.

I wish you and your son a wonderful Christmas, full of love and joy and fun. HOPE, & belief in the world of love. :-)

Blessings on your day....

12/11 Dr. Phil and Robin’s Christmas Show!

 hello to you guy's

i am a mother of two and married. we got to buy my spouses grandparent's Hobie farm. we live in a small town.  as the people say when you go throw there if you blink you will miss all of the town. the town is in villard MN. we are having a hard time here. the jobs around here are not very high on the pay scale. you can't get a job that will pay you more then $7 to $8  an hour. my spouse has been on Workman's cop for over a 1 1/2 yrs. he toke out his lower back. so now he can't be a truck driver at all. the doctor told him that his back can not  do all the bouncing around form the truck. so we have been trying to make it all this very. they filly have closed his case and now he is trying to find some thing that will not hurt his back. he still does thing maybe he should not do. but they told him to try working on things so he and work on making the muscle get stronger for him. the doctor told him that he was getting stronger but it can take a long time before he gets better.

i have stayed home with the kids. and not work. so looked for a job and found one but they let me go 31/2 months later. when my spouse got his settlement we had to pay  the bills with it and it took almost ever thing he got. we saved enough to get food. now i do not now what to do. if we are going make it here. i would like to get the kids something for Christmas but i don't want to send money we don't have. i would not now how to start with finding some where to help us out. do you now what we can do? we need help with getting him a job and what are we going to do about the bills. i have been crying my self to sleep. then get a head ace the next day. please can you help us. i love the show and got my husband now that he isn't working to watch you also. he even watches you out in the garage. he use to turn the channel but now he watches it to. i have watched you sense you started the show and when you were on Oprah.

You may have grown up poor, but you were given untold riches by your parents :)  Even today you are a very "rich" person!
Thank you, really, I feel I am. It also makes the material things I do have now so much sweeter.

You are so genuine

I couldn't believe what I saw today.  I saw your Christmas show last year and was amazed then too.  When you give, onlookers can tell it's genuine and not for publicity.  I've been dealing with the social security office since June 2005 and they are supposed to help!  We lost our home and life is day to day here.  I like knowing there are really good people out there giving from their hearts not their ego.  I miss that ability.  When I was working I was able to do so much more for others.  I'm going crazy this year because we didn't adopt a family for the holidays.  It is a wonderful feeling to just give.  I can take some solace knowing you're out there to cover my back.  I'm looking forward to a better holiday season next year.  In the meantime, I am grateful for my family, friends and totally unselfish people like you.

Thank you again for being the loving, giving family we all should strive for.

The Christmas give-away show

Dr. Phil and Family, thank you so much for helping others in need.

And oh darn, I sure wish I was in that audience today! I can't win for loosing, but really very happy you made so many people so happy.

I must say I enjoyed seeing your boys and new daughter in law and especially got a kick out of your younger son, with the knit cap sporting his mediallion. I had to holler for my 17 year old son to come and LOOK!   "IT"S YOUR TWIN I DIDN"T KNOW YOU HAD" !!! lol   "Guess you aren't the only one that has one of those darn knit OJ caps attached to your brain," I told him.

I tell you I'm afriad that someday if that hat ever gets removed off that boy's head no telling what will all fall out!

Best Wishes

12/11 Dr. Phil and Robin’s Christmas Show!

Quote From: flbeachmommy

Dr. Phil,

I loved the show and am very thankful for all the you do for the good of people. However, I am very disappointed that only, Happy Holidays was said. Why did you not say Merry Christmas once? Is it that you were not wanting to offend anyone? I have the up most respect for you, for many reason, but also trust. Trust because you are a man of God. But this show you really let me down because it was very obvious you avoided saying Merry Christmas. I would not have ever suspected you would have taken the same route as many of our department stores and retailers have.

Merry Christmas and God Bless you and yours!

He is a man of God who respects and understands that there are many holidays this time of year and saying Happy Holidays is a way of telling everyone, Jewish, Christian, Pagan...whatever...to have a nice holiday season.

This is a very Christian ego-centric mentality. I'm sure you mean no harm, but you don't see Jewish people getting bothered by people who say Happy Holidays...You don't see Pagans getting mad that people don't say Happy Yule.

We live in a multi-religious country. Dr Phil is a man who does believe in HIS God but also realizes there are others who are just as passionate about THEIR Gods.

That's all.

Merry Christmas to you. (From an Atheist) :o)
