Dr. Phil's guests are trying to convince him that they're not doing anything wrong. First up, Ty Beeson produces a video series where the homeless are encouraged to fight on camera and perform what some describe as demeaning stunts. Some critics say these videos could be responsible for inciting young men to commit heinous acts of violence, because Ty actually pays for the footage. You won't believe what happens when he comes onstage. It's a Dr. Phil first! Then, a woman whose homeless brother was beaten to death says what Ty is doing is dehumanizing and wrong. And, what do you think about the ban on models who are too thin? Drew is against the ban and says that it's not the fashion industry's job to keep an eye on the models, and skinny models promote a fantasy, not reality. A former model who was rejected by the industry at 6 feet tall and 135 pounds, disagrees with Drew, and she says her struggles to stay thin are still affecting her today. Then, Drew squares off with another model who was told she needed to lose weight. She turned a deaf ear and is now a model on Deal or No Deal. A heated discussion ensues, and Dr. Phil weighs in on these controversial issues. Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Thank you so much!!!!!!

Today during the show, I was thinking that women are romodels for teenagers. I have friends that are bulimic trying to be something that they are not! I am only a teenager but I feel like I need to be something else. I saw girls on the show that are skinny and very healthy but in the fashion world they could be considered + size. That isn't right so I admire women that believe in themselves and that are good, healthy people that are true to themselves!

You Just Cursed Yourself

Quote From: shmigelz

I dont see a single thing wrong with the person who makes those videos. Im not sure if the people are mad because he found a way to make millions of dollars and most of the people here didnt or cause of what hes doing...

No one puts a gun to their heads and makes them do these things. They WILLINGLY choose to take part, they choose to be homeless.

I personally dont see ANY difference in the one female drug addict guest who was a drug addict counsellor teacher/wife/mother who was drugged up 24/7, shot up everywhere, before she tought a class, lied to her husband, lied to her family, lied to all the doctos, pharmacies, stole money from her husband/family and GOD knows who else, took more drugs then most towns and the person who makes those videos...

I really, really dont see a difference at all....

...damned yourself to having to live a life as a homeless person. That's how karma works. If we judge others rather than try to understand, we put a curse on ourselves guaranteeing that we will have to live that life in order to learn the truth. So either in this life or the next you will be homeless--and you will have the life that led up to being homeless.

The truth is that they have a psycho-spiritual illness that predisposes them to making poor choices. They are easily exploited by others. The psychological predisposition to being homeless and victimized is laid down in childhood--by being victimized then. It takes tremendous work and help to allay those patterns so that they can make healthy choices.

So good luck to you. I hope after your homeless life you have more compassion and understanding than you do now.

Skinny Women

Models are supposed to be an ideal (fantasy) why does the average woman need to feel they look like that ? I don't look anything like a male model, they all have square jaws and are over 6 ft tall. GET OVER IT!  Overweight models are NOT physically attractive. btw IF YOU DON'T LIKE SEEING SKINNY MODELS...DON'T BUY THE MAGAZINES WITH SKINNY MODELS!!!!

Bum Videos

We had a homeless man, beaten to death in our town.  Was it because of these Videos?????

Maybe!

Why are people so attracked to violence?  Media is Sick!

TV is full of violent shows, usually portrade against  Women.

The reason most of these homeless are on the street, is they are mentally ill.

more to blame than fashion

Yes, the fashion industry plays a big part in women "dying to be thin", but we also have to look at  other actresses like Jennifer Anniston (just an example) who are very thin, most of these women we read about are size "0", or as I read the other week, less than size "0".  What does  a dress or pants or shirt look like in less than size "0"?  Can't imagine it.  The media reports in the rag mags that if one of these actresses wears a baggy shirt that they are automatically pregnant, or if god forbid they may have a little tummy that they have put on a few pounds.  The media is our worst enemy, but we continue to believe everything they report.  We have to be our own police on what we read or watch on TV.  We are all responsible for our own selves, especially the adults, and we have to teach our children to have self confidence from the time they are small, and can only hope that they carry that through to adulthood.

12/12 Convince Me!

Quote From: preraph

I've always found almost pathetic how the fashion designers and their minions actually BELIEVE their clothes are the only important thing in a fashion show or photo layout.  What colossal egos.  Most of those fashion shows aren't even showing clothes you could wear anywhere, only "artistic" indulgences by the designer that would only hang on a size zero frame.

Models have always been known by name.  The fact that there is scant information released about some of them only makes it easier for people to project themselves onto that person and imagine they have something in common.  I'm surprised the phenomenon of the Victoria's Secret yearly television show didn't come up.  They make SURE you know each model by name and get acquainted with her.  Also, nothing was said about the mandatory plastic surgeries to correct "imperfections" and enhance breasts, the routine liposuctions on "trouble spots."

A couple of years ago, I bought a copy of a magazine that targeted upscale Texans.  On its cover was a woman so emaciated she was goosenecked to the point of looking deformed.  The makeup could not cover her underlying gray palor.  I knew they had chosen her because they were doing a retro issue and she had some resemblance to an Audrey Hepburn stick figure.  But seeing her gray palor made me so mad that I wrote the magazine a scathing letter, blasting them for not having a conscience.  I got no reply.  But I think all of us should be very vocal that we are disturbed by these images.  Only then will it change.  It certainly won't change because the fashion industry, whose model of the year is the original "heroin look" model and who has recently been through yet another rehab for substance abuse, Kate Moss.  Maybe they like her best because she really IS a walking hanger, not much upstairs anyway.

I would say the percentage of teenage girls who HASN'T been affected in some way by these emaciated models is less than one percent.  My own incident that came to mind was actually in my late twenties.  I had an unrequited love for this guy that wasn't going anywhere.  He seemed unattracted to me, but kept hanging around.  Finally, it came to a head and he flat-out rejected me (and stayed gone awhile and then came hanging around again).  I was so heartbroken, of course, and what was my reaction?  I starved to lose 15 pounds off my big-boned but already skinny frame.  And the sad thing is, he reinforced it because he told me I was looking good.  Not that it changed our relationship.  It would be years and years before I finally realized that he was impotent.  He did try to tell me, but you know how men are.  They will never use the word.

I've been both too fat and too thin, and I can tell you there is a world of difference in how the world treats you.  But the sadder fact is that once it's apparent you're over 40, you're invisible no matter how you look, which gives me very little reason to shed these unhealthy pounds yet again.

The guy himself even admitted to the models making the show.  He claimed that Kate Moss couldnt even participate in the Madrid show, and that because she wasnt there the show wasnt as popular.

If they are just walking hangers, than how come Kate Moss in a show can make that much of a difference; sounds pretty contradictory.

convince me

I can't understand how it is legal for Ty Beeson to produce & profit from physical violence on helpless people.  Just because he pays them $20? Because the homeless are doing it to themselves? What is the difference between that and the gangs or teenagers recording their violence, the money? Ty acts like he's doing the homeless a favor by paying them so they can go buy  drugs or alcohol. These people are broke and homeless for one reason or another. Of course they'll do anything for cash. Most of these people have mental health problems. I think Ty is a very sick person for taking advantage of this and should be prosecuted for what he is doing. All of his profits should be given to shelters so the homeless get what they need, not what they want.  They need food, shelter and care, not more drugs & alcohol. Whatever happened to Human Rights?

Superskinnies.....

Hello Everyone,

I'm watching the show here...wow. Has anyone ever showed a picture of a Holocaust victim to one of these superskinnies? Sick, I know, but I was looking at my Instyle mag the other day (after reading about Holocaust records being released) and noticed a strong resemblence between the super-model and the near-death prisoner. What the heck is going on? I can't believe the man on the show refuses to acknowledge there is a problem. Haven't 2 models died this fall! Wake-up America!!

Disgusted,

MG

The designer lied, sizes have changed

There was no size zero in the sixties.

Most dress sizes began at size six.

My girlfriend was 5 ft tall and she had to shop in the little girl's section of Stone & Thomas.

WAS IT JUST ME OR DID THAT DESIGNER TOOK A LITTLE PUDGY?

Re: then models as Hangers....illectual dishonesty

Drew's assertion that the stick thin models are merely a selling tool ( "vehicle" as he puts it ) is intellectually dishonest. The whole reason that the clothes are put on models is so that the people watching can see how the clothes move. Hangers don't move. The use of models is for aspirational reasons : it is so that women can imagine and aspire to how the clothes will look on them. Drew is being disingenuous when claiming that sending someone/ a real person down the runway is simply for hanging the garment in view. People cannot simply ( thank God ) disregard another human being who is walking, swaying, turning, and posing in a garment. Then why not just put out mannequins if this is not the goal ? But the problem is that no one can look like a runway model, so one is always disappointed and always looking for that new piece of clothing. The make-up industry says the same thing. Cindy Crawford once said that even she doesn't wake up looking like Cindy Crawford ( referring to the hours of make-up and hair before a show or shoot). Speaking of Cindy, I was hugely disappointed in her after she admitted this week that she has been seeing a plastic surgeon since she was 29 ! For a decade she has been saying that if one stays out of the sun and uses sunblock and excercises and drinks lots of water, one will age "well". Again, this pretention that we can work and manipulate mother nature. Mind you, I don't mind that Cindy has had work done, but why pretend that this is achievable for the rest of us ? Just tell us the truth.
