The holidays are here, but some households never experience “peace on earth.” Dr. Phil’s guests refuse to embrace the spirit of the season, and say Christmas is the worst time of the year! Joyce has been married to Rick for 27 years, and has hated the holidays for 26 of those years. She refuses to put up a tree, decorate her house or listen to Christmas carols. Rick says Joyce even flipped out when he tried to dangle some mistletoe over her head!  Joyce has succeeded in ruining her family’s joy, but is she about to destroy her marriage? Then, Val has 11 kids, but says her three daughters stop at nothing to wreck the holidays. One daughter even resorted to breaking her sister’s finger on Christmas day! The constant fighting has pushed Val to consider something drastic. And, find out what special event Robin and Dr. Phil hosted to help celebrate the true holiday spirit! Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Your personal insults say more about you than me

Quote From: purplepenny

OH PLEASE TELL ME YOU ARE KIDDING!!!! LOL I'm a woman and I do get very sick of hearing this bull. Yes, I work my butt off, yes I want to be appreciated, but this is beyond belief.

Did you even watch the show? He spent a lot of money on that outfit!!! ($300 back in the late 70's...that is a lot of money.) You have no idea what was going on in this man's mind. For all you know he was very excited and thought he did a nice thing.

It makes me sick to think of the hurt this can cause. If I were to spend a great deal of money on something and wrapped it and put it under a tree waiting with anticipation for my special someone to open it, only to have them ACT LIKE THAT! I would be heart broken!

And don't you think that 26 years of acting like a spoiled brat 12 year old is enough punishment for buying someone a bad gift?

I seriously think that if someone gives you something you should be humbled and take it and say THANK YOU.

The problem is deeper...this woman is an attention seeker. If it wasn't the shirt it'd be something else.

Purple:  It does not take a genius to use some thought to choose a gift for someone you live and sleep with, especially when you have all year to think about it.

REMEMBER, ITS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS.

There was no thought in that shirt.  Did you watch the show.

She mentioned the "ugly shirt" several times.

I know she would have loved a watch and I don't even know the lady.

Honestly, it is the least she can expect for herself.

Every darned show is about women always putting their needs last and when a woman actually does try to stand up for herself and actually dares to expect something nice for herself, she gets slammed.

No penny for your thoughts.

$300 for a thoughtless gift is even more stupid.

Your story touched me too.

Quote From: sandpiper1

Your story is touching and what a wonderful parent you are insptite of you upbringing.

Just remember the feeling you get when you give to your children...it is joy!

Do not deprive them of the same!  It is so wonderful to search and think and prepare to give to someone you love so much.  To wrap it and wait with anticipation to see their face when they open it!  You ARE worthy!  Relax...enjoy, God Loves You....your children love you!

How great is that??? :-)

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas.

12/13 Holiday Horror Stories

Quote From: jojoki

Would you care to tell me how you know it was thoughtless? Why are you assuming this? I don't understand people who just make claims with no evidence.

This isn't about a women standing up for herself.

There are actually abused women in the world, women who don't even have $300 in the bank and are raising kids alone, let alone a husband of 27 years who buys them a $300 gift! This is not an abused or oppressed woman. This is a spoiled brat who has no class, no grace and no concept of anything but herself.

This woman is one of the most SELFISH people I have EVER seen on the Dr Phil show. Seems to me she is always putting her needs first. 26 years of a hissy fit from hell is MORE than enough for a gift you don't even like.

How do you know this was a thoughtless gift?  How do you know that? Do you have a crystal ball? Can you read minds through the TV?

Maybe you missed a few key parts of my post:

  •  You have no idea what was going on in this man's mind. For all you know he was very excited and thought he did a nice thing.
  • It makes me sick to think of the hurt this can cause. If I were to spend a great deal of money on something and wrapped it and put it under a tree waiting with anticipation for my special someone to open it, only to have them ACT LIKE THAT! I would be heart broken!
  • And don't you think that 26 years of acting like a spoiled brat 12 year old is enough punishment for buying someone a bad gift?

Celebrating

Quote From: wthwing

Why oh why do Christmas lovers HAVE to force non Christmas people to have or celebrate Christmas things????

Tell Me Dr Phil, why are you one of them??

Leave us alone if WE don't want to celebrate !!!!!!!

Warren Thwing

I hate to tell you this but noone is forcing it down your throat. Those who enjoy the season are too busy celebrating to worry about you. What most do is invite you to join in. If you don't want to be a part of it, then just don't. Don't watch the shows, don't join in the fun, and don't be mean to those who are trying to enjoy the season. May you find peace in your life.

Traveling

Quote From: sully19_85

So last year, I spend my first Xmas away from family well my family that is. I moved to Montreal Quebec from Wisconsin to be with the love of my life. It was my hubbys and my first Xmas together and I was 6 months along with our first child. We not only spent the holiday with his moms family but also his dads and my dads, but we did all the driving, from Montreal to Quebec then the next day back to Montreal and then down to Londonderry NH in less then a week. Not my familys traditions. And this year is my Lil girls first Xmas, Im looking forward to that but Im not looking forward to driving so Im not. But I have a mother in law thats a pain in my butt. She says shes doing Xmas and that we HAVE to be there no matter what, but last year I missed out on the things my family did and still do. Everything from the usual dinner (same thing every year). All I want is Xmas day to myself my husband and my child. I have asked her to pick any day out of that week that works for her BUT Xmas and yet she ignores my wishes.

Ive tried to explain that Im over 10000 miles from my family and that  I want my child to grow up with the same things I grew up with on that day. My husband agrees. We have very similar up bringing but only recently did his family change there holiday around now that hes older.  How should I tell her that she can do Xmas but Im not going to be there?
How about something as simple as Thanks for the invitation, but we won't be able to make it this year. Don't give an explaination as to why because it sounds like she won't understand no matter what you say. Your family comes first.

12/13 Holiday Horror Stories

Quote From: fanofrobin

I am curious if other holidays make you feel this way too.  The only one I really hate if Valentine's Day!   But, really how about the Fourth of July?  Everyone getting all patrotic and sappy over the birth of our nation.  The crowds.  I mean you can't go out at night because the streets are full of people trying to get to and from the fireworkds shows and parades.  How about all those barbeques and the noisy neighbors with their company and fireworks. (Mine set off fireworks for 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after.)   And then there are all the people in the grocery stores!  Man, try to buy some milk and you have to wait in line behind people buying enough beer and soda and chips and hamburgers to feed an army.

It just goes to show you that it is not the time of year, it is your attitude.

Nope, not the other holidays, just those 3. I guess you would have to have grown up in my shoes to understand.

Christmas

Quote From: manners1951

Dr. Phil

This probably my last Christmas. I am a 55 year old woman, married for 37 years (to the same man). I was diagnosed two and a half years ago with primary peritoneal cancer. I have fought with everything I've got and all I wanted this year was to have a Christmas without chemo. Well I got my wish, but just found out today that the cancer is back. The doctors don't sound too hopeful. I'm just not ready  to give up. The thought that my six grown children and eleven little grandchildren will celebrate Christmas this year knowing this just breaks my heart. Being a Christian all my life helps at times like this and eases the burden. For the people who hate Christmas, so be it, but I know in my heart that my children will forever remember all the wonderful family celebrations we've had over the years .  MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you. God bless you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
