I just want everyone to know just how inspiring you are to me. I've read your posts, and I think wow. It seems like we've all experienced similar situations that got us to this point. At least I know I have. I find that going on a "diet" is devastating to my body in the long run. First off, if you haven't gotten Dr. Phil's weight loss book, then that's the first thing I recommend that you do. I know I've heard but I've read TONS of books before and it never helped me. Well, I know this... everytime I read it I get more from it. It not only helps you with your eating, but it also helps with your mind. And when it says to do the exercises... DO THEM! I think being brutally honest with yourself helps in this book. At least your not having to tell the world about your dirty eating secrets, like hiding food, or stealing it or whatever it is that you do with food. But if you admit it to yourself, then that's a start. I am to the point where I feel so tired all the time that I don't feel like exercising, but I will learn to get past that one day I hope. My first goal that I've managed to achieve is small, and I think small steps help a LOT! It's very hard for me to add fruits and vegetables to my diet, and I am sure I am not the only one. So what I do is try to make sure I add them to my meals. For example... At lunch if I eat a sandwich then I make sure I eat a salad with it, or at supper whatever we make... I make it a "habit" to eat a green veggie. My boyfriend doesn't always want veggies with his meal, but either way I still have something with mine. That's my first step... and if you're big on breakfast foods, try adding green onions, tomatoes to your eggs, or having an apple or orange with your cereal. You'd be surprised at how much that will change things. I've heard that you have to do something at least 21 times in a row to make it a part of your daily habits, so it's not like you can do it a couple times and be done with it. Now I make sure if I have a salad with my dinner that I eat it first, and all of a sudden I am full! We had steak, baked potato, rolls, and a salad last night. I ate like half my potato, and half my steak, and didn't even finish my salad! My steak was a large sirloin that looks like one of those big ribeyes you get at a restaurant. I usually scarf that down without even thinking about it and then I am over full. I think that if you're anything like me, that small changes can make a big difference. Diets seem to shock my body and I get the cravings for sugar almost immediately. I have found the small changes to be the best route to take. I haven't gotten the exercise routine yet, but of course I always want to quit after a couple days, but I will overcome it somehow. So my question is....
What is everyone doing to make changes to their lives? Are you doing like me and doing small changes, or are you drastically changing things? (Some people require a total restriction from carbs if they're overly addicted to them, so not everyone is the same, and some require a TOTAL change and can't just make small changes, so please don't think you have to take my route either. It's only what I do from my own personal experience.) What about exercise? This is the one I fail at, but I will get into it again. I was just wondering how everyone else is making changes and how it's affecting your life. Hope all is well and everyone is enjoying the weather. :)
