Hi All!!!

I am back looking for support in my endeavors to lose weight. I lost over a 100lbs when the weightloss challenge started in 03 and I have gained it all back. I got very depressed and down on myself which didn't help matters at all and then I started looking after my Great Grandson from the time he was born until now.....he is 19 months old now and we finally got him in day care but I am still finding it hard to get going on my meal plan. I came back here where I got most of my support the last time and I feel better already just being here.

Over weight and over the hill, HELP!!!!!

I am an avid fan of the Dr. Phil show, and have often wished I could be priviliged to get his help.  I am 63, 5' 6", and weigh 256 pounds,  I worked 21 years as a weaver, but the textile  mill closed very suddenly, taking all our retirement benefits.  I became very depressed.amd did nothing but sit, eat and feel sorry for myself for 6 months and the weight piled on.  I finally went back to school, got my GED, went to Spartanburg Technical College, graduated in 2003 (at 59, the oldest graduate) as a medical front desk specialist.  I have not been able to get a job, I think due to my age and weight.  I have osteoporosis, but otherwise, I am in good health,  My husband and I have 6 wonderful children, 14 grandchildren, and a pool in our backyard,  I would love to enjoy the pool with my family, but there is no way am I going to put on a bathing suit.  I am also a Christian, so I will not do anything that is not according to HIS will.  I hope you  can help me Dr. Phil.  I  also need to let you know I do like myself, otherwise, how could I expect anyone else to like me. I do hope  I hear from you,                                                  Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,  Don't be discouraged,  this board has been a little slow the last few days.

That is terrible that your retirement benefits has been taken away.  I know that must have been really bad for you.

You can do this if you really want to.  Do you have Dr. Phils book?  (The Ultimate Weight Solution)  He also has one called Dr. Phil Food Guide.  If you have the UWS you should start reading it and do the audits.  It is really a good book and it works if you work it.  The food guide will tell you how and what to eat.

Don't think because you are 63 that you can not do this.  I am 73 and I have managed to loose about a hundred pounds.  It has been a struggle keeping it off, but I know that it can be done if I work at it.  I go to the senior center and exercise every day but the weekends.  But you don't have to go to the gym to exercise.  You can do it at home--what ever works for you.  But the exercise is very important.  I can eat right, but if I don't exercise I will not loose weight.  I still would like to loose a few more pounds and I know I can do it, but just seem to be at a standstill right now.

Hang in there and get a quick start.  You will be surprised how quick  you can loose a lot of pounds if you just START.   Do this ONE  DAY AT A TIME.  I will be here to encourage you and help in any way I can.

Have a great day and I will look fwd to your posts.

Hello Everyone!

Hi! My name is Chasity and I am new to the boards here.  I'm 29 and I estimate that I weigh just over 500 pounds.  I've always been heavy, but after getting lymphedema, my mobility has suffered and I gained more weight.  I feel like I could really benefit from getting to know others with similar weight loss hurdles. I need all the advice and support I can get. I have so much I want to do, and so much I feel that I can offer to the world, but I have to conquer this first.

Do you have Dr. Phil's book on weight loss?  If you don't try to get it and start reading it, and do what it says to do.  He also has a food guide that he wrote.  That book tells you what to eat.  Try to do some kind of exercise.  Start out slow, and do what you can do.  One of the girls on here does water exercises and she loves it.  She says that it is easy on the joints.  She hasn't been on for a while, but when she comes on, she will have some tips for you.

I looked at your profile and noticed that you are from Tennessee.  What part or what town are you from?  I live in Anchorage Alaska right now, but I was borned and raised in a little down in Tennessee.  In fact I have lived here for 30 years, but still call Tn home.  LOL

Good luck on your weight loss journey.  I am here to help you all I can.  There are places on the site that gives tips for Wt. loss.  I think you click on advice and then weight loss, but I am not sure

Talk to you later,

Thank you very much for your advice.  I am from Mississippi originally, but now I call Hampshire, TN home.  It's close to Columbia, which is south from Nashville by about an hour or so.  I don't have access to a pool, but I have decided to do what I can do and just try to extend my workout every day and push myself to do more and more. I love music and I play this game on the Playstation 2  to cheer myself up sometime... it's called Karaoke Revolution.  I think I'll start to dance while I sing and just get my body moving and try to do more activity in general.  A lot of times I turn down offers to do activities with my friends because I know how hard it would be just to walk around and shop or things like that.  I know I can't walk around all day at a flea market just yet, but I can open myself up to shorter outings.   It seems like I have let each pound I gain isolate me more from the world.  I've withdrawn from most of the things I used  do, even school and church.   My body image is horrible, and the lymphedema has caused my legs to swell so horribly that concealing them, even under pants is almost impossible.  I constantly worry that my pants will ride up and reveal my freakishly swollen and discolored legs.  I have to really build myself up mentally before I go out in public.  I'm not going to give up though, because I deserve a better quality of life. I just couldn't see it sooner.  Thank you for your encouragement.

I use to go to a camp in Columbia.  I forgot, but I believe it was 4H camp.

that is good that you will extend your work out every day.  If you like music

you might dance around the house to your music.  Anything to keep moving

around.   Before you know it you will be able to go with your friends go the mall.

Since I have lost weight, I am able to do more things like that.  I hope you will

start to go back to church soon.  Try not ot isolate yourself so much.

Isn't it something the doctors can give you to help your legs.    I don't know

anything about lymphedema.  You are right you deserve a better quality of life.

Just keep working on your weight and I am sure you will feel like going out to places

you like to go.  Someting that might help you in your weight loss journey is write what you eat in your post.  I know some others have done that, and it seemed to help.

You have a great weekend.

Happy Memorial Day Everybody

Well it's Memorial Day, and unfortunately, like many other holidays, this one gets tied into food somehow, but I've managed to avoid a festive barbecue.  I think I'll be having a grilled chicken salad for dinner made by me.  That way I can control everything that is going into it.  My fiance is off work today and we are home together.  I had hoped we could enjoy some kind of activity today, but he's tired from working all week and just wants to lounge around.  I can't blame him.  My level of activity can't be hinged on his, so I'm planning to go on a walk through our neighborhood.  Hopefully the aroma of  fired up grills won't be too much temptation, and lead me choose to eat something I'd be better off without.  God bless you all, today and every day!

Everybody here had to work today, except for me.  LOL  We had a cookout yesterday, but it was pretty healthy.  I had a small piece of steak and salad.  Grilled chicken salad sounds great to me.

Sounds like you are doing well.  Keep up the good work.

Hi Ladies!

I posted on this forum a few months back and found it helpful, but choose to not post for awhile. So I am back and in action! I weighed 400 lbs in February and now weigh in at 377. I am on track with my eating and exercise. I hired a personal trainer who I see twice a week for 1 1/2 hours (30 min of cardio and 1 hr of weights and floor exercises. ) and go into her club 2 more times a week for 30 or so minutes of cardio. (24 - 26 min on the treadmill at 2.5 mph then 6 minutes or more if I can on the elliptical staying in the 40s) What a work out for me but I feel really good afterwards. I have been doing this since May 11 but adding the extra cardio workouts since last week. I have a walking trail behind my house but have not gathered up the energy to walk it on the weekends yet. Maybe next month when the trainer goes on vacation. I watch everything I put in my mouth. Calories, fat, protein, and carbs. I try to eat good foods all the time. Portion control is my battle, but I work at it daily. I enter what I eat on fitday.com and it helps me during the week.

Glad to be back!
