Walking the Stop Signs

I haven't started walking to the stop sign yet. We have had rain almost every day since I said that. Whenever we get a dry spell the grass is going to need a lot of attention.  I think the most DH had measured in a single day ws 6 1/2 inches ... but every day has had some and mowing is impossible. .................................................................................................................. We have taken this time to shop for things we need. I have walked many stores looking for that aerobic step deck and haven't found it yet ... but I will. At least I am getting some walking done and that is better than nothing. ........................................................................................................................... CONGRATULATIONS to Stef, Liz, and others who are showing real progress. We are just coming into the start of the "hibernation" season. Maybe we can all be "mad scientists" working on "secret projects" (losing weight/eating healthy) in our "secret labs" (the privacy of our home) and emerge in the spring new and improved creations having undergone a metamorphosis during the dreary winter months ahead. Wouldn't that be great? -- Healthier bodies that can fully participate in all the world has to offer when next spring and summer rolls around and offer us a cornucopia of things to do a places to see???  Let's all determine to get off "dead center" and do something life-changing over this "fallow" season. .................................................................................................................. LINDA B. (I'm in ... are you?) ... Please excuse typos -- no time left to proofread.

I"m in, Linda... I'd love to go into my

winter coccoon an XL and emerge this Spring as an M...

I went to the grocery store yesterday and didn't get any inspiration from the fall veggies...  yet... what am I missing?   Surely there are things are yummy outside of a pie or a cobbler?

Good Morning all

Well, since I have posted last, I have started going to the gym. I go 3 times a week. Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays. I try to give my body a break in between before I go back again. I find that I really need it too! I am getting a little better, but it is going slow...which is good!

For those of you who do not remember me, I am 38 yrs old and my name is Sunshyn. My husband and I have been married for 20 yrs..but have been together for a total of 22 yrs in all. We have a son whom is getting ready to turn 13 in Dec!

Back in June of this yr I weighed 299 lbs. In August I weighed 294 lbs and the last time I weighed which was the 2nd of this month, I am now down to 281 lbs. So it is coming off of me slowly...but that is fine with me. I'd rather it come off slowly and keep it off, than for it to come off fast and gain it all back plus some! (Which has been known to happen more than once)

I am losing this weight for more than 1 reason. 1. I want to live longer. 2. I want to be healthy again. 3. I want to feel good about myself again. 4. I want to like myself again. 5. I want to be able to go out in public with my son and not have him be afraid other people his age seeing him with me...and knowing that I am his mother. 6. So I wont regret the rest of the yrs I have left not being able to do things with my family. 7. So my back will NOT hurt me any more. 8. So I can buy normal sized clothing in wal-mart instead of having to order them online. 9. So my husband will love me more (Not that he doesn't love me for who I am...but I do not see what he see's in me...or any one else for that matter!)

I could probably go on and on, but I wont. To sum it all up though, I am doing it for me! No one else! Because I want to live!

Love & Hugs,

Sunshyn

P.S. Could someone please fix this so I can type and it be centered? This is driving me nuts! haha

You're going to love the results !

I just got down into being able to buy Wal Mart clothes...  or finally  realized I could this month...  and it is making such a difference in my attitude... I am amazed...  this is an unexpected reward ..

Finally, I can look at a catalogue or sales brochure and know that there's a good chance I can fit into the things I want to wear and not just settle for what I can fit into...

Adrienne Vittadinni... Ralph Laren,.... the neat looking stuff in the Lands End catalogue that I have had to skip on past....  the cute outfits at Coldwater Creek and Chico's... St. John;s... DKNY....   all are about to be possible... (after I win the lottery)....

After years of feeling deprived....   it's almost here....      I can deal with  elminating some harmful foods... that is not deprival...  that's a choice....

Congradulations !  Even though the weight loss is slow at least it is.  That is the way I look at it. 1 lb. is better than none.    I understand about gaining weight back and then some. I once was down to 186 lbs.  Within a year I was up to 315, the highest I had been at the time.  My highest , this time, before I started loosing weight was 325.   My totall loss of weight as of last time I weighed I was 260.    I think all of us want to be healthier by loosing weight. But I suggest we keep in mind that our mental health is just as important.  We shouldn't feel bad about ourselves if someone looses 1 pound or 20 pounds.   We like ourselves for who we are.  I feel our personalities are what should be noticed , not our weight.  I realize that is easier said than done.  I have fought that all my life.  But it is something you must inforce in your mind, or you will never be happy no-matter what.    Keep up the good work !!!

For the exercise stepper, I'm sure they are available online. You might try eBay or one of the online auctions to get a bargain on one. Often I can find brand new items on the auctions sites for less than half the price I might pay in a store--it sure is worth a try! I'm not trying to stop you from walking the stores--you can still keep up the walking, but you could be using the stepper already.

Sunshyn

So good to hear of your progress! Congratulations!!

It is so important to all of us that we post regularly and uplift others with our progress--our successes. And it is just as important to come regularly and ask for help and explain our challenges. Maybe what challenges us and makes us vulnerable has nothing to do with the weight loss itself. Maybe it is family problems or pressures of our job or raising kids or special events in our lives or health problems--whatever the problem, we are your support family and we are here for you. Yes, we do want to stay focused on weight loss, but so many things can affect that and we all need to know that someone cares and supports us so we can tackle the weight in SPITE of those challenges.

I think you are doing great and I like the way you have listed so many reasons WHY you want to lose this weight and that they are all for you. We all have learned the hard way, I'm sure, that it has to be for us or it really won't take hold.

And I think it is great that you exercise 3 days a week and take breaks in between. I do think it is important to move our bodies EVERY day, but not the same exercises. So working out 3 days at the gym is perfect and I am sure you can move more around your house on the non-gym days, whether it is gardening, housework, walking the stores shopping or whatever. You are breaking out of the sedentary mold and exercising--that is the important thing. I think it is also important to find a physical activity we really LOVE doing. So often we exercise to lose weight, but it remains a "chore" and a challenge--not something we love doing, so when we reach goal we are not likely to keep it up. Will and Millie have found bike riding to be enjoyable. Bev and so many others here enjoy water exercises. Whatever type of activity we choose, we really need to explore a number of different things until we find something we can be passionate about--something that will last long after the weight is off. That is part of the "permanent" weight loss--creating that healthy lifestyle for the rest of our lives.

So once again, congratulations on your great progress. And I do hope you will come back more often.

Have a great day.

Cherie

"fishing"

The past few days I've gone "fishing" again on the "Obesity" board. There are several boards on this Dr. Phil site that are informational more than support like this one. I read so many posts there of people aching to find a support group or someone to show them the way to succeed. Naturally, I point them here--or to one of the other WLC discussion boards if they have a lot less to lose. A few over the past months have taken me up on my invitation and become part of our group--I hope to see a few more come here in the coming weeks.

But I encountered something this week that I have not seen there before. One of the posters expressed her need for support to lose her weight and her frustration with failed attempts (haven't we all been there?). Her post was met with disrespect and caustic comments. It made me realize once again and appreciate the SUPPORTIVE atmosphere here where we respect one another and treat each other with courtesy and kindness (even our kicks in the butt are done with love--LOL). I just need to thank all of you for continuing to be a welcoming, positive place to come--that "soft place to fall" that Dr. Phil talks about. For many of us, this is the ONLY support we get and I do appreciate you all for that. I also appreciate that I can come here and not be subjected to profanity or anyone's "agenda". I guess it just struck me that I don't say "thank you" often enough. So, thanks for being here and thanks for being the great group you all are--I can't imagine where I would be without this board.

Have a fantastic day today and I hope it lasts all weekend!

Steppers and other exercise equipment

Around here the best buys on used equipment are at garage sales. People practically GIVE them away just to have someone cart them away..It's probably a guilt thing.   I've also seen some good buys at the resale shops.

Summer seems to be when I see the most equipment.. I guess that's when people give up and want to see it gone !!!
