Share your tips and suggestions on what is working for you in your WLC such as exercise, foods, support, life changes, anything that you are doing differently or you know is a healthy life long change and IS WORKING! If you know of things that are NOT WORKING let's hear about them also and we will work on them together.

Bren- Thank you for the info in the Dr Phil book. Yes, your right. It's wierd, I can find specific info for others but when I'm looking for myself, I just go blank. Niki- Have a great get away, you deserve it. We will miss you. Today is my nephews wedding. Will be seeing lots of relatives. It was very exciting to shop for my dress. I got it at an outlet store for $7, my high heel shoes for $10 and jewelry (necklace, ear rings, bracelet) for $10. We (brothers, sisters, relatives and friends) all have reservations to stay the night at the hotel, so we won't worry about having to drive home. :) Have a great safe weekend to all. See you next week. Hugs, Jackie

Good morning.  Are you still hired as a temp?

Have a great time at the wedding, I'll bet you look like a million dollars in your new outfit.

What a great day it is.  Let's all embrace the day with a positive outlook.

I am ready to study KEY #3 once again.  Just finished one and two and the important thing is to approach life positive.  Keep all negativity from creeping into your life and into your self talk.  We are all winners and we can do this.

Alice, way to go ....... 116 lbs gone.  You are taking your time and keeping it off.  You have the right attitude towards reaching your goal, slowly.

Key #3, is all about cleaning your environment...... making it safe.  This includes your home and office and car.  Inside your home it means your food area, ie fridge cupboard and pantry.  Your clothes, do not keep clothes that are too big as this allows you to grow back into them if you gain weight.  The concept is to wear clothes that fit so if they become too snug it's time to get real about your program.

Have a great weekend.

Hugs to all,

You are so right.  Keeping a clean and safe environment is so very important.  That is exactly what I have found during this past two years.  I have been giving away all of the clothes as they become too big and it does help knowing that if I gain I will not be able to fit into the ones I have.  Before I had clothes in the house from a size 26 all the way to a size 3.  Now all I have are the size 12 and less.  I still have a few of the 14's that are I think sized wrong as they are small 14 from a quite a few year years ago but otherwise I have gotten rid of the big clothes and it really does help.

Getting rid of all of the junk food is very important and not bringing any into the house.  I know as I had bought some animal cracker cookies into the house for my grandchildren when they were supposed to visit on the 4th of July and when they did not come I found last week when I was hungry one afternoon.  I had a few for a snack instead of healthy food.  I have to continue to work on this one as for some of us temptation is too much to overcome.  We really do have to have a entirely safe environment.  Now that my environment is safe again I will not go and make a special trip out to get junk food so if you have unhealthy things around you must get rid of them.  There are usually plenty of people that gladly will take junk food and think that you are extra kind to give it to them.  I found that out the hard way.  Now  I try not to buy it and if I do then I give it away if I do not use it as I had intended.  If my grandchildren come to my house now they can have healthy fruit and cheese.  For the most part they are happier with that than having something unhealthy.  I think teaching them about healthy eating will be good for them as many of us learned our unhealthy habits when we were children.

I am hoping that everyone will have a very happy and enjoyable weekend.         Alice

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND

Just wanted to say hi to everyone.  I probably won't be in here for a few days.  I go for my first Chemo on Monday, depending on how that goes I might come in and post.  I'm still working on eating healthy all though I was already warned that the steroids would probably hinder any weight loss.  Bummer.  They said it couldn't hurt to eat healthy so it might help in lots of ways.  They didn't want to give me any false hopes about weight gain.  I had to give up my Curves for the duration of my Chemo, but the Curves people just told me to come back when I was able and they would keep me a member in good standing and I could just start over.

Wishing you well for Monday, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Don't worry about the steroids just concentrate on getting better, eat healthy like the doctor's told you. I have been on steroids since 1987 and used them as an excuse for my weight gain it was more what I put in my mouth the culprit and not the steroids, I have proved that I can lose weight whilst on them, you will experience some fluid retention while on them but as you start to wheen off them that will go.

Val & Connie

Val you will be in my thoughts and prayers especially Monday.  Pleae do not get concerned about weight gain now as you know it is just the side effects of the meds.  We hope you will be feeling well enough to post but do understand of the side effects of the meds causing numbness and at times loss of use of extremities.   Just continue to try to eat healthy but probably you will not feel like eating more as often food has a metalic taste at least for some.  I pray that this session of Chemo will go well and it will be over very soon.  At least there will not be surgery before the Chemo.  That is a really good thing.  Just take care of Val for now.  I will be praying for you.

Connie, I am so glad that you are finally feeling a little better.  To lose one lb is absolutely great as with the cortisone usually everyone continues to gain while they are on it just because that is a side effect of it to retain fluids.  You should be very very proud of yourself that one pound is absolutely great.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.            Alice

That is not a typo.  I have thus far lost 116 and still have about 40 more I would like to get rid of but am slowly taking the last off.  Many people that I know tell me that I should not lose more but according to the Dr. Phil book I still need to take off some more.  I started out at 278.  I have swam almost daily in the summers these past two summers and do swim on into the fall and also first thing in the spring.  In the winter I walked and also got some IE by splitting firewood and doing other things around the house and yard.    I have not lost as fast as some have however I just keep slowly taking it off.  I figure there is no rush and I have also read that if one takes the pounds off too fast they are more likely to come right back so I am trying to do this more as a healthy lifestyle and let the pounds come off naturally.  I just got out of the pool after swimming for an hour.  This I did after working for 12 hours then coming home and mowing the grass until it got dark and then I swam for the hour.  I find swimming is relaxing as well as a good way to tone those muscles.  I plan to continue to swim as often as possible for the rest of my life if I can.  When one finds an activity they enjoy I feel they should continue it and I enjoy swimming.  My biggest problem is sometimes I do not get my portions small like I should but I continue to try and learn    I feel that I will be able to get these last pounds off eventially it may be next year but that is OK as I plan to stay on this eating and exercising for the rest of my life.  Got to go.  Take care.           Alice
Alice! Congratulations on losing 116 pounds so far!  You have been so successful.   It is inspiring to me to hear that you have done it mostly by swimming.    I also plan to continue to swim for the rest of my life! :) Take care! :) Brenda

Good afternoon

It's 1pm in Nova Scotia, so it is afternoon.  Hope everyone is doing great.

I was down 2 lbs this week.  I've been working very hard on my meals and ie.  Yesterday went for an hour walk along the beach.

This morning I went for 30 min walk along the trail and tonight is water aerobics class.  We are in the pool over one hour.  I can't wait.

Unfortunately I had a bad food day later in the day yesterday, but it's now overwith and this is a new day.

How are the rest doing with their program?

Connie, good to see you are out of bed.

Val, keeping you in my prayers.

ttfn Love Barbara
