WELL NOW FOR THE PAST MONTH OR TWO, MY 10 YEAR OLD SON, WHO IS IN THE FIFTH GRADE, HAS DECIDED THAT HE WANTS TO GO LIVE WITH HIS DAD. I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO SLEEP BECAUSE ALL I CAN DO IS CRY. I DON'T WANT TO LET HIM GO. HE IS A STRAIGHT A STUDENT AND HE THINKS DAYTON PUBLIC SCHOOLING IS BENEATH HIM. I DON'T KNOW IF HIS DAD OR SOMEONE ELSE HAS BEEN PUTTING THE RICHINESS OF LIVING IN CENTERVILLE IN HIS HEAD, OR WHATS GOING ON. WE HAVE A GOOD LIFE HERE, AND HE RARELY GETS IN TROUBLE. HE SAID HE WANTS TO HAVE A BETTER LIFE BY GOING TO CENTERVILLE SCHOOLS, SO HE CAN MAKE SOMETHING OF HIS LIFE. GIVE ME SOME ADVICE PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi Fellow Dayton Moms!!

Wow, I was suprised to see all of these Dayton moms. Cool!! I am a mother of 3, my oldest boy will be 7 in a couple weeks, my daughter will be 5 next week and my youngest will be 4 in June.

Well, to the mom with the Centerville dilemna - you will not be losing your son but I believe that you need to support his decision. Centerville schools are much better than Dayton Public and he will most likely get a better education. Changing schools is a hard decision and as long as he knows all of the pros and cons of this move, then I say support his decision. Make sure you have a clear and open discussion with him, his father and the expectations of everything and every scenario.

If you want more proof, go to each of the school's websites and they will have links to their state report cards that will show how they measure up. You may want to show your son these and do a pros/cons list with him. One of the best things you can do for your son is to give him an opportunity to get a great education and now is the time to show him that you love and support him and make the decision together as a family. Good Luck!! Heather from Beavercreek.

Hello Everyone :)

Hi :)    All Ohio Moms,
My name is Jodi and I have 2 teen daughters, one is 13 and the other 14.  For the good of my chat messages my 13 yr old is S. and my 14 yr old is M.  And my husband of 16yrs. is T.but I might use husband for him.
I have come to the message board to find friends, because I don't get out of the house at all really.  I am disabled and still awaiting SSI for 2yrs.  I have numerous health problems, so here at home is where i am.
Plus I could use some parent interaction on the "teen scene".  I have polar opposites one is 14 going on 30 (no lie) and then I have a 13 going on 13.  Both could live on their own right now if they could. (i don't think so).
Also some info on bullying, it is awful, much worse than when I was their age!!!  I already had to have a conversation with the principal about a boy that was harrassing my oldest daughter and she can stand up for herself, but i think this boy scared her.  On the bus he grabbed her and was going to bite her and told her that the more she pulled away the harder he would bite her well she was yelling and even screamed rape and no one helped her not even the bus driver.  She decides to tell me 2 weeks later.  Well I took care of him through the school and with the threat of harrassment arrest-I think he really scared her, she never cries and she was crying when she finally told me.  I called the police and they told her that since she waited 2 wks and there was no evidence of a bite mark that there wasn't much they could do-well I was beyond upset with them!!!!  But I kept my cool. The principal and I worked it out-hopefully.  I certainly look at my daughter's body more investigatively.  It will eat me inside because in my mind I can see the whole thing and I wasn't there to protect her.
Nothing like that will ever happen to either of my girls' as long as they live with me.
Well I have many more happier and goofy stories to come-there is never a dull moment!!!

Till we write again,   Greenville Mom
