Newbie

Hi everyone,

My name is Kim and I live in Ohio and I just started today a diet. I have just recently sent in a video to be on the next weight loss challenge. I am 150lbs over weight and I have to lose my weight for my health and for my own personal self esteem. Any suggestions?

Hi Kim, Welcome to the message boards!  It is great that you have started your weight loss journey.  I also have a lot of weight to lose.  I have recently lost about 50 pounds with the help of a Dietian and following Dr. Phil's 7 Keys.  The best thing you can do is follow Dr. Phil's 7 Keys and especially find an exercise that you enjoy and do it as frequently as possible.  I enjoy swimming and walking.  Also, coming to the message boards for support is very helpful.  I check the message boards every day.  Good luck to you! :) Bren

Thanks for the note. I am going to do this. I just have to figure out what kinds of food are the right foods to eat, you hear so many different things about eat this and don't eat that, like an example, I have been told carrots are good to munch on and then a diet I was on told me NOT to eat them because they are full of sugar. Who do I believe?  Tonight I am having spaghetti made w/ whole wheat pasta so is that good or not?? Can I ask how long it has taken you to lose that 50lbs,

Kim, It is great that you are starting out on your weight loss journey.   It can be challening at first to know what foods to eat.  Dr. Phil's Food Guide can be very helpful.  Carrots are definately a good food to eat--no one ever gained weight by eating too many carrots--lol :).  Whole wheat pasta is a better option than regular pasta.  It is a good option in moderation.  Dr. Phil says that your plate at any given meal should be 1/2 vegetables, 1/4 carbohydrates, and 1/4 proteins--so use that as your guide.  It took me a year and some months to lose 50 pounds.  Take care! :) Bren

Hi Everyone!

Hi Everyone!  I went to my Dietian's Office yesterday and weighed in.  I have lost 4 pounds in the last 2 months.  Since I was busy moving, I did not exercise as regularly as I usually do and my weight loss was slower than it usually is (I usually lose about 4 pounds per month).  Still, I am pleased with the results.  Take care everyone! :)  Bren

I have been swimming at work this week and am doing good on stuff...Sunday evening I had a bad evening because I was mad at my husband so I ate a couple bowls of cereal.. It was fiber and protein cereal but I should not have ate at 9 at night. But I got up Monday and started a new day and it is Wednesday and doing great. I have to tell you that today I had to stop at the store on the way home from taking my son to work and I was hungry because it was lunch time, BUT i bought a bag of carrots and crunched on a few of them until I got home and made a salad. Any other time I would of just grabbed a bag of chips to eat on the way home or ran thru mcdonalds...

Hi Kim, It is interesting that you mention eating cereal.  I have a no fail environment in my apt and do not have sweets or chips here.  I do have a fiber and protein cereal like you do.  I don't have a problem eating it in the evening.  However, I wake up early and eat my breakfast early in the morning sometimes like at 3 or 4 am.  Sometimes, if I am really hungry in the night, I will eat a bowl of cereal at midnight.  Then, when I have eaten cereal too early in the night, I want to eat cereal again in the morning like at 7 or 8 am.  I am really trying not to eat cereal twice in one day. 

I am really proud of you for eating carrots instead of chips and going home and making a salad.

HELP BREN

Bren,

I need help! I have been eating healthy for almost 3 weeks now since I started reading the book and listening to the audio of the book and I am finished w/ the book, I understand the whole concept. I am exercising as well...I got on my scale this morning and am not losing an ounce. That is so depressing!

I go so angry that I thru my scales and broke them. Now I was reading the very end of the book last night about being weight loss resistant and I am wondering if I fall into that catagory because I am on BP meds and I do take thyroid meds, and high cholestoral meds. I am going to see a thyroid specialist in Sept to see maybe what is going on. Wish I could of gotten an appointment sooner but that is all they had. This specialist is a diabetic doctor as well. HELP I am ready to just chuck it and say FORGET IT!!!!!
