(Original Air Date: 02/22/07) Dr. Phil explores one of the cruelest cons in America: adoption scams. Couples hoping, wishing, praying to have their own child, become easy targets for heartless con artists who pose online as birthmothers. Meet three women who wanted nothing more than to hold a newborn child in their arms. Instead, they say they were misled, lied to and left devastated by a woman who claimed to be pregnant with a baby meant for them. Now Marie, Crissy and Jen might have a chance to confront Melissa, the woman who deceived them. With the help of private investigator Harold Copus, they track her down, and even Dr. Phil is shocked by what happens when they find her, including their close encounter with a man and his shotgun. When Melissa sits down with Dr. Phil to tell her side of the story, will her victims finally get their chance to confront her face to face? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

LOL!

Quote From: pipestr

Anon Sic said it well. It is sociopathic begavior.

I am not a trained mental health expert. I did hhowever have a 15 year relationship, with a person diagnosed as a sociopath.

Personable, charming, bubbly, sensous, attractive. Appears warm, caring, giving, and loving - and it is all a lie.

They have NO major emotions. No empathy, sympathy, guilt, caring, or ability to love. As to more commom emotions, happy, sad, angry - they are almost always overlapping - angry and happy at the same time. Always a seething underneath.

Selfish, not due to a 'drive' but yet due to a total lack of ABILITY to care for anyone.

Worse yet - they oftem believe that they are 'normal' - that EVERYone is like they are, and only "fakes it".

I am not so comcerned with my masculinity, that I can not admit to openly weeping watching this show. Those 3 women showed more class, more chutzpa, more self repect than I could have - in fact I doubt I even know a person that could have.

They deserve the closure of looking in her eyes, yet, it will not really end their damage. Her eyes will be empty of regret. She will say it - show signs of it - probably dry - but still display a 'woe is me' attitude - as if SHE is the victem (of her own drive for attention).

Anon Sic was also right - in that we all probably know at least one sociopath. It scares me that I see more and more of it, as I age, and learn about this mental illness.

I would say "God bless" to these honorable ladies, but from my perspective, thay have already been blessed by God. Otherwise they could not be so able to battle the rage they must feel.

I know once they go thru a healing process, they will be further blessed with love.

Yes, that Anon Sic is quite a character!  Please get a clue.

07/26 Adoptions Scams, Part 1

Adoption is the most lucrative non-regulated "business" in America.  Why should it be money-driven and unregulated, when human lives are invovled?

These women who were "duped" ~ it is just a NATURAL outcome of an unethical, unregulated industry which refuses to protect the children involved.

Just because a woman wants to become a "mother", doesn't give her that "right".  Children are not pawns in a buy/sell/trade system, but the unethical behavior of adoption facilitators, attorneys and agencies, including "marketing" for babies, is appaulling.  It is just the natural outcome in a flawed system which refuses to hear the voices of the adopted "children" who eventually grow up and whose rights are ignored, with sealed records laws based on myths put out by the same industry who is supposedly working in their best interest.  Absurd.

The Truth

Quote From: reticulate

The lady didn't steal anyone's hopes or dreams, she stole their money. Babies are blank slates; one is as good as the next.  She scammed them, she'll go to jail, but she isn't evil, and they can go buy another kid.

I believe the same. I could not imagine the hopes and wishes as well as struggles that these 3 women endored. That is hard to imagine that someone had the gall to do this type of thing. Posible knowing what these people have been through tryin to have a baby. That type of person should have to repay these women twice over for everything that she has but these wonderful people through.. No amount of money can every replace these womens hurt...

It's not fair

Quote From: ceildh1

First off I want to say that my heart goes out to these women, nobody deserves to be conned in such a heartless way.  As someone who put a child up for adoption, I couldn't imagine how anyone could be so blase about the process, giving your child to even the most loving of couples is one of the most difficult things a person could do, but to con that same loving couple shows such a lack of compassion and empathy its disgusting.

However, I am interested in what kind of warped mind could do something like that, and then have the nerve to face these women, though I noticd her face won't be shown, and I doubt any other info will be posted.

Now i am 16 years old and i have never been pregant and don't intend to be just yet but i am a big sister of a little brother and sister and i think that i would be heart broken to know that my parents can't have kids and they try to adopt and it's just a scam. babies are something to be proud of but sometimes pregancy's don't work out they try and they wait and they try and they keep on trying and they don't make it so they adopt and it think it's not fair on those to ladies to be lead on like that they were so happy and excited to have a baby and they were misslead i hope things in the end will work out

Quote From: daisyblue22

You can't be serious!!!

Boy, it is people like you who really do not pay attention to what they are seeing right in front of their faces.

These women DID GO THROUGH KNOWN LEGITIMATE CHANNELS!!!  There were agencies and attorneys involved. Far be it for you to believe that even professionals in the adoption industry are LIED TO!!!

These women WILL GET what they deserver. And it will be a GOOD REWARD. I am confident of that!!

And people like you, need to clam up and get educated.

Hallie

Thank you, couldn't have sad it better....

Melissa needs a help of a psychotherapist

With my heart goes to the ladies that have their hearts broken with the most painful thing that a woman can be hurt with, that is exploiting and deceiving their motherhood love and passion, I think Melissa needs to seek help of a a psychotherapist. She had some bad experience back in her life that makes her enjoying hurting people. Maybe she is deprived of being a mother too and she want as many other women to share her pain be inflecting the suffering on those women like the ones we saw on the show. Maybe she had a very painful experience in her life that made her feel insensitive towards hurting others. I am saying that because her body language from the way she was sitting, talking, facial expressions, dressing were clues of that she is anything but sorry or remorseful. Another clue is one of the text messages in which she said to one of the ladies the is no baby ended with HAHAHA.

It is time for Melissa to seek help before it is too little too late.............
