(Original Air Date: 03/02/07) Do you live on the edge without thinking about the consequences? Dr. Phil's first guest made headlines across America. Crowned Miss Nevada in October 2006, Katie Rees was dethroned two months later when pictures of her in compromising positions surfaced. Why does she say her punishment was unfair? Then, David admits that he used to sneak out of the house in the middle of the night to have sex with another woman while his wife, Sara, slept. He got away with it for a while, until Sara woke up and went knocking on the other woman's door, catching David with his pants down. Should Sara give David another chance, or is David not ready to make a change? Dr. Phil has some tough questions for him. And, Kendra, 26, has been shoplifting since she was 9 years old. She's been to jail once and is currently on probation, but says she just can't stop stealing. You won't believe who taught her how to do this! Dr. Phil has a strong warning for this mother of three. Judge of beauty...

I don't mean to be crass, but I don't think that Miss Nevada is all that pretty.  Anyone can go get breast implants, spray on tans, bleach their hair and wear revealing clothes.  Whoppee.  I have a cat that's good looking too...and useless to boot.  It seems unfair to perpetuate the mantra that the only worthy women in society live on heroin and ex lax.  I'm 5 foot 11, weigh a scale -tipping 142, and some modeling people still tell me I'm too fat (at which point, I tell them where to put their wt requirement)!  Urg...(me venting).

I gotta say I agree with you here.  When I was in high school (10-14 years ago) I remember that "pretty" was very very different.  It's just so obvious that pretty is just what ever fashion dictates.

I have noticed that in the last 5 years or so "beauty" has become very  "porn star" looking...fake breasts, over done hair, deep unhealthy looking tans...and this seems to have gone along with the rise in internet pornography.  When I pointed this out to my husband he said he noticed it too.

This trend will pass and another one will take it's place...

(That being said, I don't care about it either way. The one constant in the beauty trends is women are reduced to looks. Not just by men but by each other.)

Caught in the act

This poor kid. I can't believe the flack she's getting for it. So what if she kissed a couple of girls in a bar. If it had been men would there have been such a back-lash? Since it's no longer constitutional to condemn people for being gay, if I was her I would have said I was bi-sexual. Half the people in Hollywood are gay & like I said, I'm pretty sure that if the pictures had been of her kissing men it wouldn't have been an issue!

Spin doctor

Wow, this 22 year old needs to go into politics!  She can put a spin on anything.  She thinks she has the right answers, but actually shows her lack of intelligence (although she is sly).

Miss America is about morality ???

Come on... why should a pageant that is ALL ABOUT judging women on their LOOKS be the moral ground for what the girls in the pageant do ?!   It's so hypocrytical.   Not to mention, if that was a GUY she was kissing in the picture... Nothing at all would be said about it.   Apparently, Miss America is Prejudice against alternative lifestyles!   Now THAT's something for them to be proud of.

I used to love watching Miss America as a girl and as a teenager, but I won't watch now since it's a crock of hypocricy.  What a joke.

Miss Nevada, What are you talking about?

I just watched the segment with Miss Nevada and it seems that the real problem with her isn't her behavior it is her ability to be honest and take responsibility and move on.  Really, the world doesn't care if she had her tongue in someone else's ear and what she did before becoming Miss Nevada, so just admit it and move one.  She had a difficult time facing reality and it appeared she was on the defensive the entire interview.  Her facial expressions, her body language, and tone in her voice made that defensive stance obvious.

Give Me A BREAK Katie!!

I just watched the former Miss Nevada segment and she made two comments that really gave us a good insight to her real self: 1. she said she "wasn't a role model- she was just a regular girl"...yes, Katie, you're right, you are NOT a role model and 2. She made the comment about "doing good while she was Miss Nevada..working with Special Olympics and "goody two shoes" organizations. Say WHAT??? Does she consider volunteer work with those less fortunate as being a "Miss Goody Two shoes?" what a sad, sad commentary for young women today. Katie, you don't deserve the crown, title or any recognition. My bet is that you'll reconsider the Playboy spread AND the "Girls Gone Wild" offers  that you so willingly "rejected" and will sign up as fast as you can. What you didn't say in words, your chosen clothing outfit said the rest.

My Take

This particular program gave me a number of things to consider.  It was unusual in that all three topics interested me.

The shoplifter is a sad and mixed up person who has to get her act together fast or she will deserve to lose her kids.  Right now I see her as a tragic figure.  If she doesn't do what she needs to, I'll say she forfeits any claim to sympathy.

The man cheating on his wife is another story.  This is one case in which I have to disagree with Dr. Phil.  I think this guy is playing the part of the repentant husband because he knows he has no other option at the moment.  Given an opportunity,  I think his promises will be as empty as his brain.  I have seen guys on the show who had cheated that I could see their remorse.  This one is just a bad actor who gives all of us (guys) a bad name.

The Miss Nevada thing is yet another set of issues.  I think the point was missed here completely.  Beauty pageants are out dated, ridiculous spectacles in which women are paraded around until a group of judges think they see a difference in one of them.  People, Miss America was the prototype Stepford wife.  All of us will be better served when these "contests" stop.  Whether this particular one should be disqualified or not, I say who cares?

It's not like she's posing nude on stage at the pageant..LOL

I agree with her removal because she broke the rules...but the rules are dumb. Let's face it people, the Miss America and state pageants are just pretty contests. They're shallow and demean women at least as much as porn does.

"It's not like she's posing nude on stage at the pageant..LOL"

In this day and age with the internet, yes it is.  And I don't really see what's funny.
