The 2002 Christmas Eve disappearance of Laci Peterson and her unborn son, Conner, caught the attention of the nation and started a massive search for the beautiful pregnant wife. But as the case unfolded, the obsession with this story turned into outrage. Ultimately, 12 jurors not only found Scott Peterson guilty of killing his wife and his unborn child, they unanimously voted that he be put to death by lethal injection. For nearly six months the jurors submersed themselves in a case of cold-blooded murder; and now, in a daytime exclusive, they join Dr. Phil to tell their incredible story. The graphic photos shown in court of what was left of Laci and her unborn child, Conner, are so haunting that they have been forever sealed -- never to be shown to the public. Could what the jurors saw have been traumatic enough to scar them forever? Then, one of these jurors did the unimaginable. After sentencing Scott Peterson to death, she became his pen pal. Find out what his letters revealed to her.  Next, after taking six months away from their lives for the trial, some of the jurors emerged only to face death threats. One received a menacing letter which he never opened. Will he break the seal for Dr. Phil? Join the discussion!

Find out what happened on the show.

03/08 The Scott Peterson Jurors

Quote From: ckwrite

In defence to the juror who wrote to Scott Peterson.....

Everyone seemed suprised and outraged by the juror who wrote to Scott Peterson...my question is why?!   No one who follows news stories is able to say that there wasn't one case, one story, or one event that hasn't captured their imagination and that they just can forget about it.

Whether it was Jon Benet Ramsey, September 11th, Jessica Rumsford....these high profile cases captured the attention of the nation and people cannot forget them.   With the Scott Peterson trial heartstrings were tugged and people wanted their family to be reunited.  Than the nation was crushed with the news of her death, and what made it worse was the feeling of decit because people believed him to be the grieving husbands...not the killer

Not being able to foget this story is common for all of us.   The juror who wrote the letter has an even more deeply felt connection ot the case because she was there.    She isn't crazy, she isn't a bad person....she, just like all of us, wanted to know WHY?

If you ever bought a book in response to this case, spent time watching documentaries, researched it on the Internet...you are searching for one thing as well: WHY???  why did he do it???

this juror was doing simply the same.

I completely understand wanting to know "why", and I'm not feeling any outrage over her actions. But,Scott Peterson maintains he is innocent, he is awaiting his automatic appeals, and he isn't going to slip up, confess, or provide any answers to that question.  As the juror learned, he attempted to utilize the correspondence to gain information helpful to himself or his case ( i.e.trying to elicit admissions that could be shown as juror mis-conduct), so like Dr Phil, I hope Richelle finds another strategy to gain closure for herself, this one will not be successful.  Richelle says she will never get over this.  I suggest that it is true that her life was forever changed by this trial ( as were the lives of other jurors), but she won't move forward by focusing any of  her thoughts, attention and efforts on Scott Peterson.  I hope she finds peace and the ability to live fully in the present, there is nothing positive to be gained by giving any of her power away to Scott Peterson.  He won't resolve anything for her, he's self-serving, manipulative, deceptive & dangerous.   ( also..why give him a thrill by providing him with any attention?)

Staying On Topic

The topic of this show is 'The Scott Peterson Jurors' and how they are dealing with the repercussions of having served on this trial. This is not a debate board as to whether or not Scott Peterson is guilty and any posts we consider to be off topic will be removed at our discretion.

03/08 The Scott Peterson Jurors

Quote From: saraliba

I saw the show and I did not think the message Dr. Phil opened and read was that much of a death threat, more like you will get yours someday.

When the one juror(Greg) said he got death threats and said he did not give them to the police it opened my eye balls up!  If I got a death threat I would be most certainly talking to the police.  I have believed in Scott innocent all this time and when the following happen,I went to the FBI:

I have been writing on these boards since November of 2004 and recently I have had people stalking me ,enrolling me into different things, gotten porn on my computer  and someone(SIG) got a hold of  my full name first and last, telephone number both email address and pulished them with my grandchildren  names..... and my  daughter in law was one angry Mama  bear and was going to protect those little cubs, also got into my E Harmony account and published my profile on the crime and court board at the Modesto Bee newspaper  bullentin board

I was also shocked  when I heard how emotional this jury was and I wondered if there decision was not made on emotions........ and there was nothing said about how good they felt about being part of a justice system and doing justice for laci and Conner....... if this was true for them I do not think we would hear them complain about  terrible it was to look at the autopsy picture ,although I do not see why they needed to see those as they did not prove Scott did anything ,more that  he was innocent than guily.    Although I have been angry at this jury for finding Scott Guilty  because I feel  the  real killer got away with murder and is running free and maybe has killed again.  The Arab doctor who went missing in  Berekeley or Oakland and than found 4 months latter in her car in the river I have to wonder if she was not killed to keep her silence  as she may of done a C section on Laci.  There is the police officer killed in Pitsburg at the same time Laci was found and it seems funny the person who was suppose to have shot him ended up 90 miles in Modesto and was shot  by MPD. I am not saying i know anyhing it is just suspicious is all i am saying.

Dr Phil made his opinion about the contents of the letter quite clear, suggesting that it would be important for jurors to get identification on the sender, show this sender's photo to family members, and the jurors indicated they would accept the offer he made to have a private investigator get them this information.  I feel bad for the jurors, they did their civic duty and performed a task that is as essential to protecting our freedom as military service, and yet they  cannot feel that they or their family members are entirely safe from actions of unbalanced people, even now.  As for comparing your voluntary participation in various message boards and consequences you believe you have experienced as a result of posting opinions to the juror's mandatory service and the long-term consequences some of them are experiencing,, it is apples & oranges.

03/08 The Scott Peterson Jurors

In keeping with the request  of the moderator and what the show was about, then I would like to say, I think that letter was a fake.  The address and everything was typed, I would say probably on a computer.  It isn't handwritten and it appeared there was a return address on the envelope.  Strange how they didn't discuss the threats they received from those who decided he was guilty before the trial was over, or discuss how when they would arrive at the court house they were told to fry  him.  Yeah, they weren't swayed by public at all.  They just took a little of this, a little of that, put it in a soup pot, gave it a stir and decided which was the safest verdict for them to go with.

Question:  How did the co-workers even know they were a part of the Peterson jury?  As high of profile case as this was and because on jury trials no one knows who you really are, why would a juror or potential juror tell their co-workers they are on the jury?  If you want to protect yourself, you don't tell anyone.  I didn't tell any family members or co-workers that I was on the jury because I didn't want them to try and influence me to find the defendant guilty.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if certain G's from other boards and forums found ways to contact these jurors and sent them copies of the posts or asked them to join these same boards and forums.  They would join up and lurk, reading only what was being said about them.  Maybe they were part of the modbee forum, although I believe most who posted there were G's, some who went as far as to lie by stating they helped to convict Peterson and got caught in that lie.  I find it disgusting the way everyone attacks everyone, from attacking Peterson to attacking both set of parents.  No one won anything in this case.  There is one thing agree about what Geragos said.  I believe he was correct when he said there was still a stealth juror, (or two) in the jury and I'll bet one of them was the teamster.  How do you know what is going on when your sleeping?  The only way he could is if he read someones notes.

I can honestly say, I have never written to any members of the jury and the one's who did and IF they made threats were probably written by women who fancy they were in love with Peterson.

03/08 The Scott Peterson Jurors

These jurors have my utmost admiration.  Regardless of the murderer's supporters' assertions, (all three of them) these 12 passed judgment on the evidence competently presented and irrefutable at the end.  They saw pictures and heard horrors that we will never see nor hear.   But having seen nor heard any of the trial, they rail against these people who had given up a big chunk of their lives.  It would curl others' hair to read what these people say about them.  I 've read it, and for one of them to say the death threats are false?  Don't believe it. I've never read such hate out of human being directed at these citizens, or law enforcement, or the prosecution or believe it or not, the victims' family.

Now these people are a topic for Dr. Phil.  But that would be a series, not an hour.

Are you kidding me

Imagine what those jurors had to go through, the horrifying pictures and testimonies.  They were all just ordinary US citizens and then one day their lives changed forever.  I am sure this is something they will never forget.  The had a public duty to serve and they did it to the best of their knowledge.  Only God knows who killed Laci  w/child and that person will come before the maker on judgement day.  As for these jurors, their lives somehow need to go on, so instead of ridicule, why don't you try praying for their healing.  I don't agree with the one juror who is "pen pal" with Scott, but who are we to judge.  She needs our prayers, so she too can get on with her life.  Dr Phil did a great job with interviewing and keeping the letter and it's contexts to the minimum.  I am sure it said alot more than what was spoken.  After all it was on national television and why give the sick one that is sending these threats anymore publicity or gradification.

This really opened my eyes.

Quote From: framarob

I attended the taping of this show !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was positively riveting, and heart-breaking too. These jurors went through so much - and once the trial ended, they were basically left there, all on their own, to cope and come to terms with the awful, horrific things they'd been through.

The death threat is TRUE --- Dr Phil proves it on the show. (Don't want to spoil anything so you'll just have to watch and see.... but trust me.)

the reason they can't  "walk away from this horror" is because they had to look at pictures that an average "normal" person couldn't even IMAGINE. They had to listen to testimony that would be unthinkable to the average person. They showed dignity and strength, as well as discretion, and they deserved AT THE VERY LEAST to have the courts provide them with professional help (ie: psychologists, counsellors or w.h.y.) to help them process everything and get back to their lives.

I wish I had watched this show. I remember talking about this with my older sister and identifying a little with what the family went through and feeling incredibly sorry for the victim's family because their pain was far worse than what we had to go through. And now, to read of what the jurors went through, it made me wonder a little about the jurors at my parents' trials. They were around the same time as the Peterson trial. My mom's trial was in March of 2004. In fact, she was found guilty three years ago March 11. The jury came back pretty quick though it was still a couple of hours. There was even a former teacher of my mom's on the jury but because she was a nun, and she said that she could be impartial, they let her serve on the jury. There were some pretty rough pictures there too though nothing like the Peterson trial. I remember seeing them a couple of weeks before the trial and I ended up with nightmares from them that I don't even remember having but as my husband was awoken by my screams in the middle of the night, I guess I did. Both of my parents were charged with first degree intentional homicide. My father shot my brother-in-law three times at close range with a hunting rifle. My younger sister was only 21 weeks with her son who's name was Conner. My mother was charged with party to the crime. My father's trial was in August. I thought that the jury would come back quickly like they did at my mom's trial since it was so obvious that my dad was guilty but there was a little glitch, an option to only charge him with second degree for reason of defense. That threw one particular juror and everyone was deadlocked for hours. There was a fear that my dad would get off or that there would be a mistrial! My older sister completely freaked out because my father was always threatening to kill her. The verdict finally came back though and he was found guilty, some six hours later. It was probably one of the longest six hours of my life. The thing that helped us though was talking to some of the jurors and hearing what happened during their deliberations. One of them was even at my dad's sentencing in November.

Being a juror is a responsibility but it can be a HUGE one especially in a trial like Scott Peterson's. There definitely should be help for them including counseling and even financial help. Some of these jurors miss work and all of that making their lives even more difficult when they do return to reality (because I'm sure serving on a jury can seem anything but real). Anyway, I just want to say I really feel for these people and I'm glad Dr. Phil did this show. I just wish I hadn't missed it.

no one can forget

Quote From: jade4953

How can it be true that anyone would send death threats to jurors who were charged with performing their duty as citizens?  This is inconceivable!

As far as the juror who is now Peterson's "pen pal"...this is just simply crazy!

It seems that all of these people cannot walk away from this horror.

My question is:  "How can this happen?"  "What motivates either of these behavioral inconsistencies?"

the jurors say they think of the autopsy photos daily.  during the trial, they were not allowed to talk to therapists, priests, family, etc. about their feelings.  the 5 that appeared on the show are haunted/traumatized by the murders.  what i don't understand is why the juror didn't open the letter that contained the death threat.  why wasn't this turned over to the authorities?  how could he live like that knowing somebody is out there that he doesn't know who knows his identity???!!!! and corresponds with him.  i can't imagine receiving a letter in the mail and just putting it aside, especially, after what they all went through.  he must have known it was a nasty letter since he didn't open it, but saved it.  sounds like they are having difficulties living their lives, especially, Richelle Nice.  they did their civic duty, but they certainly paid a heavy price.  i hope they all get the therapy they need and they are able to find happiness again in their lives with their spouses, children, friends, community and families.

I agree totally with you.  In a case such as this, therapy should be available for each and every juror.
