Hello Trish

I have had my grand baby here this week. She and her parents left this morning. We had so much fun with her here this time. She laughs at everything and is trying to giggle. She blows raspberries and bubbles and we all laugh so she thinks she is a natural entertainer. I got to feed her her first rice cereal and she loved it.  She has bee strictly breast-fed so we weren't sure she would like other foods.

Well they are gone now and unless I get myself to Las Vegas between now and Christmas I won't get to see her until Christmas.  I miss her soo already.

For those of you who like to read science fiction, my youngest son has just published his first book. you can get it from www.LULU.com publishing company. Just search for the title "Entities" by Jason Dougherty It deals with reconstruction of an old alien ship found at the bottom of the ocean. A top secret agency sends two guys out to explore the universe to see what they can learn.  There are lots of physiological twists and many suspenseful surprises throughout the book that will draw you in and make it difficult to put down.

1.Diabetes? FMS? CFS? Chronic PAIN? Your WLC Home

Don't have time for long post but wanted to stop by and say hi!

Hope all is well with you and yours....

I am depressed thsi morning cause forgot to weigh yesterday so did it this morning and I not only gained but now I went over the 200 point...GRRRR.  I gained 2.6 pounds sine last time weighed on 9/13 and I now weigh 201!  Even with all the gains I have still lost 23.2 since started program but need to get back on track and lose 51.8 to reach goal.  I am gonna clean out the snack cabinet today (and not by eating it as I have been doing!) so hope you don't mind but gonna talk about key 3 in posts....

Yesterday, I saw my karate instructor from when i was in karate 11 years ago while dating Vic (my husband).  He saw Megan who he never saw and called her a princess (and since then she corrects you when you call her Megan "I am Princess Megan!" "mommy's teacher said so!" I wonder how expensive it would be to go back to karate and if I could deal with being in ex's world again (he is a teacher there...) I miss the exercise and even the people but just don't know...there was so much coudln't do cause of illness and was given breaks but they never really understood -- it would be good for Kyle too though so major thinking again happening here! LOL

Karen -- I am glad you had such a good visit and at least you see them again at Christmas!  My mother in law went to Florida to visit her sister last October and decided to stay!  Her birthday was Monday and we sent a package with cards and stuff done by the kids and talk on the phone or in email but it isn't the same!  I just know she is having a good time and the weather is better for her back and illnesses....we haven't seen my dad in over a week cause we have been sickand he is 81 years old so we stay away as nmot to get him sick...and my mom passed away when Megan was 3 months old and Kyle was 3 years old -- alot has changed with them since then but I know in my heart she is watching over them and sees them....

Hey Trish

Hi Trish,

I’m sorry to hear about the weight gain; I can empathize. I hate itwhen I gain, but please try not to let it ruin your day/week/etc. Weight is sounimportant compared to all the wonderful things we enjoy in life. I know, wewould all be healthier and happier if we lost weight every weigh-in, but wewill loose this weight eventually. In the mean time, try to forgive yourselfand smile in spite of the added 2.6.

I emptied out my cupboards a few weeks ago – again. And when mykids came to visit they were crazy for junk food. We weren’t at the house thatmuch and I really thought they would not want junk food since they are all watchingtheir weight too. But I guess “mom’s” house is equated with comfort foods. MyDIL found a box of tapioca pudding mix in the back of my pantry and made thatfor a snack.

How sad to have your mom pass just after having a baby – or anytimeat all actually. I’m sure she is watching every moment of her grandchildren’slives – how could she not!?  My mom is 81and so I understand you trying to keep your dad healthy; I do the same for mymom.  I’m lucky to have her so close by. Idon’t know how your MIL can stand being away from her grandbabies. Grand kidsare so wonderful and I think kids benefit by having their grandparents nearby.  My DIL is always saying how much she wishesthey could move up here. They hope to be able to in a few years.  She is a voice teacher though, so Las Vegas is a greatplace for them financially. Out here in the country I don’t know that she wouldhave so many students.  She is starting amommy & baby music group in LV. And she isplanning on starting an elementary age choir in the next few months. LV is the perfectplace for things like that.

I’m sure you don’t need my opinion about starting Karate again; butI’ll offer it anyway. J  I really don’t think it would be a great ideafor several reasons; but from what I know about fibromyalgia, the jarring thatcan take place with Karate can really make fibro worse. In fact the falling andsparring has been sited as having caused or worsened fibro in some people.Something like Tai-Chi is much better for the body and can even help peoplewith fibro. As for your son, Karate is generally a great thing for kids as ithelps with self control and self esteem as well as physical health.  But I would only do it if your husband was100% in favor, considering who one of the teachers is.  (yes this is coming from me with my ”therapisthat” on).

Well, Take Care,

Karen

Karen

I talked to hubby last night about it and he was okay with it but at same time I diecided you shouldn't go back anyway....it not only wouldn't be comfortable with him being there but those that are there would no my past with him cause it was OUT there....still contemplated bringing son there cause like school and the Sensei (instructor) but then decided don't want ex teaching my son or having any association with him...I thought to myself -- isn't that one of the reasons I didn't have a child with him in the first place?  We seperated on a good note -- just wanted completely different things from life but our lives still are very different.  We can have a civil conversation but don't have much in common!

Since we are going to be moving, I am gonna wait til the move and then check into it for the kids and maybe me at that point too...but gonna check into Y for water classes (so far only at night so would have to get Felicia to babysit if Daddy isn't home...) and check out Curves Monday to do while Megan and Kyle are at the Y twice a week and maybe after school a couple a days...

I don't have Fibro but rather CFS and the teacher didn't understand but tried to...

Thanks for the advice though...you made me chuckle!  Guess it sounded silly but saw teacher and thought about missing it and all...

Fall Cold

Hi Trish

Well I have my first cold of the season thanks to my youngest son.  He  had a cold when they came to visit. My husband got it right away as did my oldest son, but for some reason my body took a while to gestate it. I'm a little worried about my oldest son getting this cold because one of the drugs he takes for his liver disease wipes out his immune system so a cold could easily turn into pneumonia. He is going to the Dr. on Wed. though so hopefully it will be taken care of.

He called me today to let me know that he and my husband finally got an apartment in San Jose to share. My husband wants to start staying at least one night a week in the city to keep him from getting so tired-out by the end of the week, from driving. His commute is 2 hours each way and 2 1/2 hrs if there is commute traffic. We are really hoping that our 5 year plan will allow him to stop working so far from home, but in the meantime 5 years feels like eternity to him.  I don't blame him.

Well while I have had this cold my sons have been teaching me how to do a Blog online.  So I have just created my first blog - on parenting (my specialty - parenting and family issues). so I thought I would post the web address in case you were interested in reading it.

 http://psych-net.blogspot.com/   (no www.)

Of course I still have my website with over 100 pages of mental health and parenting information at www.psych-net.com and hopefully in the next few days I will finally be able to start fixing it up again. It has been a year since I lost the ability to tweak it because when we got a new computer last year my husband lost the program I use to update it. We finally found it and installed it - It only took him a year - haha!

Well take Care,
Karen

Did the flax seed work

Quote From: wildjoy1

Hi there Connie

How wonderful that you have been successful at keeping dreaded diabetes away for so long by changing your diet. My mom did the same thing. She was diagnosed with hypoglycemia decades age and was told she would have diabetes within a few years. At the same time my dad had a heart attack and so they both agreed to radically change the way they ate, they began exercising more too. 40 years later, my mom was just not diagnosed with Type 2 and is taking medication - she is 81. I strive each day to gear myself into some little new change in my diet to help my body get everything it needs and deserves without relying totally on my Dr. and prescription meds. But I've not been really good at getting an all or nothing attitude about any particular healthy "diet" So I pick up new things here and there and add them in as I go along.

Flax Seed is the latest and greatest in Omega3 antioxidants for the body. It not only helps to kill free radicals before they turn into cancer, but in different forms it can fix constipation and regulates your intestinal flow. One of the really great findings is that it really cuts our all the bad cholesterol in your blood which in turn lessens the chance of heart attack. Because 2 years of taking a cholesterol med caused my liver to become a huge fatty - unhealthy mass of discomfort in my gut, I have gone off the pill and started taking flaxseed oil in capsule form and I'm eating wheat bread with whole flax seed in it and I'm eating ground flaxseed in hot cereal. This way I figure I'm getting all the benefits possible from it and next week I'll find out how much it has changed my cholesterol levels. I am allergic to seafood and so I can't take the fish oil that was so popular for a while, but flaxseed is so much better and it actually tastes good (nutty).  So that is my schpeal on flax seed - it is you who asked about it aren't you? hee hee,

Take Care,
Karen

I'll see you all tomorrow for my weekly weigh it and accountability day :)

Welcome ceacae1

Yes!  Actually my cholesterol is doing much better and I expect even better results on my next visit. My mother started taking the flax just a little while before I did (and went off her cholesterol meds) and just today she told me that her cholesterol check this week showed that her cholesterol was 30 points below "normal" range. Her Doctor told her she was doing escellent on the flaxseed and told her to keep it up.

Now, I'm not recommending that ANYONE stop taking their cholesterol medication.  But I am reporting that after learning about how flax can lower one's cholesterol I have tried it and it is working for me. Please talk to your Dr. before changing any of your meds. But in the meantime you might add flax oil and or flax-meal to your diet.

My liver is doing better too. Actually that is the reason I went off the Zocor. It had made my liver large and fatty and painful to the touch.  Now it is much less painful to the touch, but I haven't gone in for another scan yet. My doctor will order one again in a few months.

Take Care,
Karen
