This is a place to talk/debate about homosexuality in general. Not just in the context of Gay Marriage, although that topic is welcomed here.

What do you think about homosexuality?

Sin, not a sin? Choice, not a choice? Should they be allowed to marry or not? Gays in the military or not? Is sexuality in neat categories or is it a spectrum? Should genetics be used in the future, if possible, to change a person's sexuality? Bisexuality, a trend, an actual sexual orientation, or just confusion?

Have an interesting article on homosexuality? Post it!

Hi everyone!  Just now saw this board!  :)

While I agree with Penny(and others)on this whole discussion, I cant help feeling bad for Cheryl.  She obviously feels ganged up on and even though I dissagree with her views, thats enough to have me sympathetic.

I think the bottom line of this convo is pretty much logic vs emotion.  Least, thats what IM taking from it.  Logically, I conceed every one of Pennys points.  Emotionally, I understand where Cheryl stands.  Dont agree!  Just understand.

So maybe she should understand how gay people feel now.

Speaking of homosexuality, I watched Amazing Race last night and thought Oswald and Danny were so dang sweet!  The things they said at the end of the show after they got kicked out were so loving I just  thought it was the nicest thing ever.     :)

Made me think of the movie Brokeback Mountain.  Even though I know that was just a movie, and not based on actual events, it STILL had me thinking about that one!  Personally, I think that dang movie is just about one of the SADDEST flicks I have ever seen.  Right up there with The Color Purple and Terms of Endearment in the crying factor.  I bawled watching that!  I think that was one of the greatest love story movies I ever saw.

Im just glad that there do seem to be at least some changes that we have shows like the Amazing Race where we get to witness the obvious love between two homosexual people.  I think thats a very good thing!

Who said I wasnt strict on the issue of divorce?

If you would attend a wedding of a divorced person, and you don't want to make second marriages illegal, then you are stricter on the issue of homosexuality than you are on divorce. I don't want to comment on your personal choices, Cheryl. I am saddened that you feel bound in a loveless marriage, but I respect your right to make your life choices based on your religious beliefs. I know they are important to you. That is the difference though - you making choices about your own life based on religion vs. legislating other people's choices based on your religion.

So are you saying since you couldnt find anything that God doesnt forgive the sin of adultery? Wouldnt that be like saying that God doesnt forgive those who are truly repentant no matter what the sin is?  Or God doesnt forgive us if we lie?  Or if we lie once, does that make us a liar for life? Or if we gossip about our neighbors one time, does that make us a gossip for life?  I was under the impression that if you make it a way of life you would be called those things, but I could be wrong!

I am not at all against divorce, but if I were to argue from a Biblical interpretation perspective, I would liken more to stealing, repenting, but then continuing to use the money for your own benefit rather than return it. I am not finding anything in the Bible that calls adultery through remarriage a one time sin. Being married to someone while your original spouse is still alive IS a continuous state.

If in fact the meaning of the word in Jesus statement in Matthew doesnt mean a constant, continuous state of adultery, then it isnt inconsistent.  Not many people would qualify to make it into the kingdom of God if a divorcee lived in a state of adultery, as adulterers (way of life) are in the list of those who cannot enter the kingdom of heaven along with those who commit homosexual acts.

That is a BIG IF. If your belief that the road to heaven is narrow, not many of us are making it anyway.  Less than half the world is Christian, at least 5% are gay, Jesus said it would be easier to get a camel through a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven....do you think God is waiving the remarriage is adultery rule because he is not making his quotas?

I found this article that one Pastor wrote, and I dont know if hes totally correct in his interpretation, but thought that this portion of it was interesting read:

When I went looking for this, I found many articles by Biblical Scholars condemning the remarriage through repentance clause. And quite frankly, your posting of this article confuses me. In all our debates about homosexuality, I have brought up the context of the times...that the homosexual acts referenced in the Bible and prominent in those times were more about rape for political power or rituals for fertility gods. You refused to acknowledge any context to the homosexuality in the Bible, yet you readily consider the context of divorce. Why can't we also consider the MOTIVES of homosexuality of the times, especially considering there are NO references to relationships...just the sexual acts.

Unfortunately, many Bible interpreters mistakenly assume that all remarriage is adultery

And I would question that most Biblical interpreters mistakenly assume that all homosexuality is the rape/sacrifice to false gods that is mentioned in the Bible.

You are picking and choosing based on your own personal comfort level.

After reading what Ive said here in this post, I would hope that you would retract that statement.

Cheryl, by comfort level, I don't mean that you spin the Bible for your own PLEASURES or personal agenda. I mean that you are personally uncomfortable with the idea of homosexuality. That's okay...so am I to some degree. Watching gay porn would probably freak me out, and not in the "Oh my God, the plot and dialogue are SO stupid" way that regular porn freaks me out ;o

I think you have a visceral reaction to homosexuality that leads you to the "it's not natural" conclusion. It wouldn't be natural for YOU (or ME), but we don't get to decide that for everyone. Watching people eat certain foods GROSSES me out - I am seriously bad about this. And for some of them I could probably find some Biblical passage to back up my revulsion. That doesn't mean that I am RIGHT....it doesn't mean we pass laws based on our personal comfort zone.

I cant in all good conscience apply the same biblical rules to remarriage as gay marriage.

It takes a divorce to get to remarriage (except for death). SO I think that is a spin. The actual word homosexuality is not even used in the Bible. I actually would hold divorce to a higher level of scrutiny as it hurts people. Homosexuality hurts nobody. Divorce tears families apart. If God created man and woman to procreate, and one or both partners decides to bail after creating children...then they are disrupting and likely damaging the lives, emotional health, financial stability, etc. of MANY people (including the taxpayers).

"Watching gay porn would probably freak me out, and not in the "Oh my God, the plot and dialogue are SO stupid" way that regular porn freaks me out"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I have seen a lot of sad movies...I love sad movies...and that one is up there for me. It broke my heart...honestly in the very same way Cheryl's story breaks my heart...that the outside world can force a person into a loveless life.

Yeah.  Broke my heart too!  Why I still think about it now and then when I see or hear other things.  It truley was one of the saddest, and also best, love story movies I ever saw.

Course, only my daughter has watched it with me as my hubby and oldest son wont even ATTEMPT to watch that one!  I will have it on and they walk by saying, "Youre watching this movie AGAIN?"  and run outta the room real quick.  *rolling eyes*  LOL

IMHO.....I never really understood why a lot of people were so repulsed by homosexuality...to me it's no big deal and never was, even back in the day when one would discuss it behind one's hand, I don't know......I have always for as long as I can remember felt it was a matter of preference.

To me it's kinda like Sushi.....It took me years to try it but not because I was repulsed by it or felt people shouldn't eat it.  As a matter of fact I was rather intrigued by it when I would see it.  It's prepared so pretty, all rolled up with different colors of seaweed or what not and I heard it was actually good for you.  Now, I don't know why...but I always felt I wouldn't like it which is unusual for me because I love seafood!   I never went out of my way to go to the Sushi bar and felt for many years I probably wouldn't ever try it.  Then it became such a craze and a friend of mine talked me into going to a restaurant that served it and only it so when I got there I couldn't chicken out and order something else and after all I was hungry.

So I had my first Sushi meal.....now how can I say this......I didn't hate it, not at all but I didn't like it either.  It was sort of like chowing down on cotton...tasteless to me...however my friend loved it.  I only ate enough to satisfy my hunger and haven't had it since.

That's how having sex with another woman would be for me I believe.....I understand the attraction and am slightly curious and if I were really lonely (hungry)...who knows that I wouldn't try it if nothing else was available....but..alas I'm afraid it would be like cotton FOR ME , soft and warm but not truly what I need.

Just a matter of taste.

Honestly, that was funny.

Of course I say that tongue in cheek because sex with an animal would never be  consensual, they aren't mentally able to give consent anymore then a mentally challenged person or a child.  Not that in some cases they wouldn't engage in sex with humans, I'm sure they have, however, so would a 14 year old boy or a mentally challenged man (for example) but they are unable to give their consent in the truest sense of the word.

The boy, man or animal are unable to predict the consequences.  The boy would grow up to be a man and it would be possible for him to regret the encounter especially if a child resulted.

So, of course Cheryl, the answer is no to that.

Consensual adults.....(humans  lol)....is what I meant.
