I walked 1 mile and since then have been working in the kitchen (cleaned microwave, stove, sink and counters are shining, floor is mopped).

I'm going to have lunch and then get started on washing (more i.e. with up and down the stairs) and then clean off the patio (walnut tree leaves are falling - they come down first, then all the others will continue until Nov/Dec.)

I'm considerably better today, so hopefully it's only a matter of days and I'll be running up to speed.

See you all later.

Connie

So glad you're feeling better!  Please be careful not to overdo.

Good Morning

I'm not the "early bird" this morning (usually up around 5:00) - but was up during the night with loud thunderstorm and finally got back to bed.  I usually don't do this, but left the TV on in the next room (to bedroom) so it would distract me from thunder, and finally got back to sleep.  Dh was up when I got up again (he slept through the thunder) and immediately understood what I had done (leaving the TV on) and let me sleep.  I got up about 8:30 - took the trash out to curb, and have had breakfast but haven't done much else.

Yesterday decided I would take some more time today for "me" and drove out to Powell Gardens (a wonderful botanical garden area about 30 miles east of KC).  It was amazing how many were there in the middle of the week!  Had lunch (soup & salad) at the Cafe Thyme, and then walked down and around the island garden area for one hour, (island in the middle of lake with several water features, waterfalls, connected by bridges, etc.) taking pictures of plants and all of the scarecrows (they have had a contest and all along the trails are scarecrows that have been constructed by the "contestants".  They were all wonderful - some very unusual ideas and the creativity was definitely evident.

On the way home I stopped at a special greenhouse and bought some zebra grass (with plumes) - on sale!  Continued on my way home, not by the busy highway, but the back "smaller" highway through the countryside - sky to the west (which was the way I was headed) got very dark and by the time I got almost home, the rain started (so heavy I got off the highway and took the outer road because I couldn't see where I was going).

I couldn't have timed the day any better if I had tried and got in some "relaxing i.e."   Don't know if anyone has ever reported that type or not.  lol

If anyone would like to see information and a few pictures of Powell Gardens (where I went for my walk yesterday) they have a nice website.  It is on  www dot Powellgardens dot org  (dot = . )     They have a few pictures of the scarecrows and within the site have pictures and explanation of the new addition coming to the gardens.  Pretty interesting.

As I was leaving there were some just arriving and they were commenting on all the different license plates in the parking lot.  It is becoming quite a tourist attraction also, in addition to the reputation it has with people in KC and surrounding areas.

My "system" has really been messed up with this flu (that's what I am calling it, but may not be) and usually I don't weigh every day, but have felt so weird that decided to see what was going on.  Within three days I have changed weight +/- 5.8 lbs.  Still not down to where I was last week, but that 5.8 lbs was total gain and hoping by Monday it will come back down.  I'm back down 2 lbs. since yesterday, so at least that's good.  It isn't due to eating too much (obviously) cause I have been existing on soup for the majority of my meals, and definitely have not been snacking, etc.

I suppose it might be reaction to antibiotics, etc.  All I know is, I'm not going to worry about it, and since my stomach and digestive tract have been so upset, am going to continue to eat light, bland meals and concentrate on getting over this.

My walk yesterday seemed to agree with me, and so today will concentrate on walking around our yard from time to time (not getting too far away from home).

Dh goes to work at 1:00 so plan to dig into some FlyLady activity then.  I'm good on my water intake and drink from a 16 oz clear Solo glass (each meal and in between meals) so I'm finished by dinner time.  That helps so I'm not getting up all night - now if the weather would cooperate and not be so noisy!   lol

I am running the dishwasher and some other activities (every time I go in to the bathroom, I have a check list in the cupboard and do one activity each trip.  By the end of the day, I have cleaned everything and it is maintained without much actual effort.)  I did a complete cleaning the other day and washed the shower curtain, liner, and bathtub mat, cleaned the throw rug and straightened the cupboards, so that is in good condition.  Even with just the two of us, I try to keep that extra clean, since it is the only bathroom, and especially when we are ill.

Today is the end of two weeks for me and I think about 3 weeks for dh.

Hope everyone else is either getting better or doesn't get it in the first place.  Keep/Get Well!

Oops

Sorry my post was so long, but didn't check in yesterday with you.  As you see, I did some more i.e., but didn't push it.  Really enjoyed my day out, and was surprised to see so many others taking the time to get out there.  I can see a crowd on the weekend, but on a Wednesday (?) morning.  They were having a seminar with a fairly large group, but there were many individuals there too.  Two of the many parking lots were fairly full, and that may indicate how popular it is becoming, evening during the week.  Quite a few families and/or women with children.

Well, maybe I should get busy.  It's already 11:00 and I haven't done a whole lot.  I should get lunch fixed before dh leaves for work, and will put another pot of veggie soup going.  Then I can dig in and start some serious work on this house.  Let a few days go by and it starts falling apart.  lol

I LOVE long posts!  That way we all get to know each other a little better!

Home made vegetable soup!  Wish I lived close enough to come over for a bowl of it with you!

I work at the local high school as a teacher aide.  I really enjoy working with teenagers, and this year it's SENIORS!  So far it's been a really good year!  I also teach piano three afternoons a week, and I'm "music chairman" at the local LDS church.  For fun, I like to read, embroider, and make quilt tops.

When it come to losing weight, I'm pretty much on my own because I live by myself.   None of the rest of my family thinks of me as heavy.  My Mom is the only one in the family who's never needed to lose weight.     That's why she really doesn't understand that for the rest of us a "taste" of something will NEVER be enough.

I know the only way I'll keep my weight down to 125 (when I get there) is to be ever vigilant.  I will need to continue to weigh once a week, so my weight won't creep back up without my noticing it.  I know I'll need to continue to be careful about what I eat and continue exercising daily.  I've been up and down the scale enough to get dizzy!  No more.

Anyway, wanted to let you know something about who you've been posting with this last week.

>>> Sat. 10/22/05 >>>

I have been working in the kitchen this morning - maintaining and preparing so the weekend will go well.  It is back to being cooler today after several days of very warm weather - so hope everyone prepares for the change in weather, or we may see more illness.  This time of year is difficult to know what to do to get through the whole day - so I'm opting for layers.  They are predicting freezing temps here during the middle of next week.

Sure hope everyone is feeling better and getting well.  We have too much to do to get sick!  Believe me!  Now that I'm feeling better I am going to focus on the i.e. portion.  That's the one area that has suffered through the past couple of months, which I am sure has brought me to a standstill.  I had gained several pounds (yes pounds) but they are coming off, so am going to give myself some more time to get back to my 156 lb level.  Anytime I introduce illness and medication into the picture, weight can suffer.  My goal is to increase my time/distance each day until I reach my former 2 mile level and then increase that to twice a day.  That seemed to be effective, and without the i.e. I can't reduce the amount I eat and still maintain health.

I.E. is the KEY I need to focus on now.  >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Have a KEY DAY!

Yum Yum - Soup

I love having soup in the pot, especially when I'm trying to get things done and still keep on key.  I have been focusing on this even more since reading Dr. Phil's book, P169, HIGH-RESPONSE COST FOODS, para. 3

"Another example of a high-response cost food--and one that is probably in your pantry right now--is soup.  Behavioral scientists have studied soup as a weight-control tool for decades, discovering in numerous experiments that it reduces hunger and controls calorie intake.  Why is this so?  Because soup generally takes a long time to eat, prolonging mealtime and thereby allowing the body's natural hunger signals to kick in.  What's more, soup is filling, so that by the time you've finished your soup course, you are less likely to want much else.  One study I read found that a group of volunteers effortlessly lost eight pounds in ten weeks, doing nothing out of the ordinary except eating a bowl of soup prior to lunch or dinner! ..."

Anyway, I make my own so I can control what goes in and won't have the salt & MSG, etc. of store bought canned soups.  It changes every time I make it, depending on what I have, and I keep a Ball canning jar in the refrigerator for leftover veggies, that makes it's way into the soup as needed.  With cool/cold rainy weather hanging around (cloudy) it is wonderful to have hot soup ready to eat.

Now, I'm off to Center to walk >>>>>>>>>>!

I've had my walk>>>>>>

I walked 1 1/2 miles in 30 min. but that was all I could do.  Now I'm ready to rest.  I do need to go to the store, but then I'll take it easy.  Dh has to work tonight 5:00 - 9:00, so don't have anything else to do.

Don't know how I managed to do 4 miles (2 a.m. + 2 p.m.) and once did 3 miles at one stretch.  Boy, I hate being sick!

Now I'm off to store.  >>>>>  (& a little more walking)

Mon. Walk >>>>>>>

I'm back from my walk at the Center - 2 Miles - Yea!!!   It was much easier today, so guess I'm getting better.

I'm going to drink my water and have my afternoon snack (apple) and will get busy when dh leaves for work.  Have to meet ds when he gets off work about 5:00 so will put pot going for dinner.  Think I've done enough today (after I finish chores this afternoon) so don't have anything else planned for tonight.  Tomorrow is another day, and I'm sure I'll be busy then too, but will add another 1 mile in the afternoon for a total of 3 miles per day.  Then after a few days, will add another for 2 + 2 miles each day.
