With reality TV and the virtual worlds of MySpace and YouTube, becoming an instant star is easier than ever. But to what lengths will some people go for fortune and fame? Two producers, Michael and Perry, attempt to find out in their new documentary, American Cannibal. Many contestants say they would eat a finger, cut off a toe and even starve themselves to death just to get their 15 minutes of fame! Then, Brian is so desperate for a rich-and-famous lifestyle that he’s willing to give up his virginity on national TV. Brian says losing his innocence for millions is a good career move, but what happens if he doesn’t make the cut on the show? And, Somaya insists that self-promotion on the Internet has made her a celebrity who attends red carpet events. Her best friend, Alysia, says using the Web for publicity is so dangerous, it even garnered Somaya a stalker! Is Alysia really concerned for her friend, or is she just jealous? Plus, Sam, an unforgettable contestant on the reality show The Apprentice, reveals for the first time how he hit rock bottom chasing the celebrity dream. Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Car accidents...

I'm one of the people that HAS to look at car accidents to survey the damage (I admit sheepishly).  I would be trying to help the people involved.  I'm a nurse, so i'd be looking for someone unconscious (CPR), how to stop perfuse bleeding, if there's an ambulance nearby or police car.  If there was someone lying on the pavement with no help in sight, I'd stop and call 911, i'd feel an obligation and horrible if I didn't.  It's sort of a quick assessment of the situation and problem solving pathway.

Audience...

Quote From: julie1418

You don't think there are any successful writers who have been known to drop the F-bomb from time to time? I think you are confusing "fact" with your own opinion and personal preferences.
I think what the poster's talking about is limiting your audience with language (any language, not just foul language).  Take H.P. Lovecraft, the sci-fi/horror writer.  He uses this grandiose or really elegant style of writing and you have to read between the lines more often than not.  This will turn off some people while attracting others.  It's all about which audience you're drawing.

Well I don't want to sound cliche or something, but I really don't care about audience, it's honestly something I do for the art of it.

I concur

Quote From: iqis126

It isn't society in general that is to blame for certain people's need to garner attention at whatever cost to themselves or to others. It is the lack of social conscience, moral values, and good self-esteem for themselves that was never taught or imparted by example by their parents or other adult that was their role model. You can't blame society for all ills unless EVERY individual in that society performs and behaves as you do. A Lot of people do not behave as those individuals who are nothing more than shallow, pitiable, selfish children pretending that they are grownups. Society will improve when everyone realizes that good things don't just happen at the blink of an eye--you have to strive for those things, and allow that most things take time for fruition.

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

Although, I think people tend to assume “society” is a separate entity from ourselves, when, in fact, WE are society. Our actions or inactions contribute to everyone’s daily lives, however minute.

WHERE are the parents of these young adults? Are they forgetting to instil the fundamental basics of being a compassionate human being, or are these individuals teaching themselves that everything and anything has a price tag?

Evidently, the moral compass has gone awry in some individuals and those who are aching for their “fifteen minutes” haven’t honed any skill or talent to make themselves feel worthy of contributing to society. It appears they’re attempting to achieve some self worth, whatever the risks and/or consequences.

Porn Star "Best of the Best"???

I found Brians statement that losing his virginity to a Porn Star was the "best of the best", to be so misguided, laughable, and disgusting.   How could losing your virginity to someone whos slept with countless guys be the ultimate experience???  There's no love involved, no feelings, no emotions, its just an act.    Personally I think the ideal is to share that experience with someone you love completely, and can share that one time experience with a girl who is also a virgin.  Its something you both will never forget for your life.    To a pornstar, its just one of many.  Does he think it will be a special experience to her??

Personally, I can't see the attraction of fame.   Its not going to bring you happiness.   On the contrary, I think it does just the opposite for the most part.   Look at those that have fame and all the problems they have.   Hollywood couples probably have the highest divorce rate in the country.   Count me out.

03/27 Fifteen Minutes of Fame

Quote From: flthomcat

Perhaps he values himself, God and the women in his life. Perhaps he doesn't want to have sex with all the people his partner has slept with. Perhaps he wants to avoid disease and death. Perhaps he doesn't end up with a child out of wedlock. Perhaps he respects what God gave him and wants to share it with the person who will be his partner for life.

If I had done that, I would not have HPV. I would not have felt bad about myself all the times the guy didn't call me back for another "date." I wouldn't have had to drink excessively to make myself feel better about all the stupid things I did.

By the grace of GOD, I am alive and healthy...and now happily married 18 years with two wonderful children. If I had it ALL to do over again, I would wait until my current husband came along and I would not be sitting here with HPV, having to be checked early to see if the cancer cells have returned!!!

Yes, perhaps he's a virgin because he's BRIGHT!!! And perhaps he doesn't want to accept all the consequences that often come with bad choices!

"Perhaps he's a virgin because he's BRIGHT!!!"????   He wants to lose his virginity to a porn star!   Doesn't sound very bright to me!?!?!?!?!?!

Ok...I too think that's really tacky to lose your virginity to a porn star online or whatever...but who said that all sex has to be about love anyway?

Affect Peoples Lives for the Better?

Quote From: kjc100

I'm a writer/producer currently developing a network TV series that will delve very deeply into the kinds of serious personal issues we've all seen on Dr. Phil and Oprah. It's not a reality/talk show. It's a fantasy-adventure series involving vampires, demons and other magical elements, and it's my ultimate goal to use that platform as a means to change and affect people's lives for the better (i.e. personal empowerment, self-esteem, being a good, responsible citizen). I also intend to fork over much of my income from the series, as executive producer/writer/co-star, to worthy social/enviromental causes (i.e. animal rescue, global warming, cancer research, youth programs). Essentially, I want to use my fame, and the show's popularity, to help others, just like Oprah & Dr. Phil do.

It saddens me deeply when I see things like today's Dr. Phil show. Sad, lost, desperate and talentless individuals, needing fame and attention so much -- just for the sake of being famous and getting rich doing it. Very selfish people wanting to be famous for being famous, a la Paris Hilton, rather than people who do something important & meaningful, and become famous for it.

KJC

You want to change and affect people's lives for the better with a TV series about demons and vampires?   How does that work?????   (I'm a little confused about that one)
