(Original Air Date: 04/19/07) Some moms don’t want to grow up, and others don’t want to grow old. Dr. Phil talks to women walking on the wild side and tries to rein them back in! Aubrey says her sister, Elise, would rather drink and party every night than take care of her 8-year-old son. Their mom, Heidi, is raising Elise’s child and says Elise wants to be a parent only when it’s convenient for her. Elise promises her family that she’s going to change, but what will it take for her to get her act together? Dr. Phil has a shocking proposition for her. Then, Greg says his wife, Lisa, is obsessed with plastic surgery and worries that it’s becoming a disease. He says she works at a plastic surgeon’s office just to get a better deal on surgery. Lisa, 39, admits that she’s spent nearly $100,000 on cosmetic procedures so she can look as young as her 21-year-old daughter and wants even more work done. Can Greg convince his wife to stop going under the knife? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Elise

Elise's story really angers me.  Frankly, I don't have much sympathy for her; rather I feel for those around her.  Not just her immediate family, but those who could potentially suffer because of her irresponsibility.  I'll tell you what, I don't want any of my five children to become innocent victims because this woman (or any of those just like her) are so selfish and self-centered.  Dr. Phil hit it on the head.  Why do judges keep putting these people back on the streets?  Why can't we control this enormous problem in this country?

Brain Surgery

Mrs. Plastic Surgery should be looking into brain surgery instead of plastic surgery.  She is probably one of the most shallow women I have seen in a long time.  What's sad is she really does not get what an idiot she looked like on the show.  I don't know how sometimes Dr. Phil can sit there with people like her and not break into full laughter.  When they panned to Robin I was thinking about what a beautiful woman she personifies NATURALLY.  Beauty comes from within not from a ditzy woman spending $100,000 for what???

C'Mon now

Dr. Phil, You need to remember that alcoholism is a disease. Granted that  she needs some serious help! Thank God that her son has a grandparent and aunt that adores him. I am an alcoholic who has been sober for 6 years (drank since I was 9 and I'm 35 now). My son is 10. My Mom is an alcoholic as well. My whole life has changed and it had nothing to do with my Mother. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired! Reality is that when I was drinking, the last thing I was thinking about was my son. But for the Grace of God there went I. I got my head out of my ass and have been sober for awhile. I even had went to jail and it did not stop me from drinking. I did not have a choice to go to treatment. Could not afford it nor would it have done me any good because I was not ready. The only thing that has ever saved my life was AA. Because I chose to go there. I'm still not sure what the trigger was, but thank God it was there. I thought I was going to die drinking 16-20 beers a day. I"m only 5'3 and 134 lbs. That was a lot for me. Gratefully my son was never taken away from me and we have bonded tremendously since I have been clean. I guess it kinda bothers me that you would have an attitude about her stupid behavior because of her drinking. I understand that her child has suffered greatly, however, a disease is a disease. Consequences like her son being taken away probably should have happened. No enabling from Mom would have been nice. People are not going to see "IT" until they are ready. To get upset with her is strange to me. You wouldn't be upset with a person who had cancer, would you?

1 in 10 people have pyroluria

Quote From: flthomcat

"Disease" has become a buzz word.

Alcholics (I have MANY in my own extended family) have more of a desire (chemical desire) to drink. That does not mean they can't stop and shouldn't be held responsible for their choice to drink. I have seen it with two of my relatives who have been sober for MANY years. Was it easy? Of course not. Can it be done..definitely! So did they get over their "disease" or is it in remission???? :)

Overeaters often have a compulsion to overeat. I eat out of stress and boredom. Do I have a disease? If you call being an emotional glutten a "disease," than I guess I am sick.

Cigarettes are additive. Because I desire them and my brain chemistry changes with smoking, do I have a disease? Heck, I gave up cigarettes (11 packs weekly) easier than I did over-eating!

The medical association, in the past couple of decades, seems to be labeling every compulsion a "disease." They are not always correct. For many decades, homosexuality was considered an "abnormality." In our secular, politically corrent culture, the AMA has now changed that and no longer considers it abnormal.

MY POINT is that if you believe everything the AMA has to say than you are one foolish person. Their "science" has more to do with social mores than it does with reality!!!!

There are many alcoholics and clinically depressed people in my family too and I am prone to eat when I am not hungry but when I crave "something." In my case what I crave and actually need is B6 and Zinc so that my body can make seratonan, acetycholine, GABA and dopamine. The disease of pyroluria means that the body produces too many kryptopyrolles when it synethsizes hemoglobin. Kryptopyrolles are discarded as waste by the body but Kryptopyrolles take zinc and B6 out of the body faster than I can put it in my mouth. Without these essential two cofactors, my brain doesn't work. All the therapy and steps and surrender and prayer didn't correct my lack of essential brain chemicals. In my family they coped wiith depression caused by bad brain chemistry by drinking and my mother "partied and neglected her children and had sex with everyone who would have her. She desperatly was trying to feel "good" because her natural chemical state was bipolar. An addiction is anything a person does to excess that endangers their health and well-being and diverts them away from important responsibilities in their life. Needing a nutrient is not an addiction but a misdirected attempt to fill a legitimate need. Many alcholholics have a distroted view of what is the basic cause of their uncontrollable cravings so they label themselves as party animal, selfish, etc. and their self image suffers. Just because a diabetic is sleepy all the time doesn't mean they are lazy but many diabetics label themselves that way due to a faulty understanding of what their problem is. To say all people with cravings are suffering merely from a brain chemistry imbalance is inaccurate; certianly there are pyschological ramifications, yes there are self-image distortions reinforced by a judgmental society. Yes the 12 steps do wonders to allieviate guilt from past bad behavior. All of these are important in recovery, but to ignore the physical aspects again and again means that many people go undiagnosed for a very treatable problem, with no side effects if done by a competent professional. This test and treatment enhances anyone's chances of maintaining sobriety or mental health in general. Why ignore it? The AMA and FDA both utterly ignore Pyroluria since it is treated with natural substances (zinc and B-6). Nearly 100% of pyroluria is undiagnosed. For an ailment that affects one in 10 people across the board, I think that is inexcusable. "If you misdiagnose a problem you will certainly mistreat it." (Dr. Phil) Substance abusers may have psychological problems, charater flaws, spiritual defects, but if all people treating the "disease" of alcholism ignore the biological component, a huge opportunity to get unmanageable lives manageable again and drunk drivers off the street is lost.  That is a huge, ignorant, waste in my opinion.

Looking in the Mirror

I have a daughter (age 30) exactly as the drinking mom. She has been
pulled over various times and taken to jail, one for DUI, other's for
suspended license, no insurance, etc. My husband and I have been
raising our grandson since his birth (10 years ago). She is a pig, as
her room is unliveable. We won't allow our grandson to walk in the
upstairs bathroom it's so bad. We are at our wits-end. Everytime she
goes to jail, she calls to be bailed out. I won't talk to her, but my
husband keeps helping her. She uses her son against us, i.e., tells him
that we won't bail her out and he gets mad at us and cries. I don't
know what to do. I'm all for tough love, it's just convincing my
husband. He is now driving her to work 40 minutes day so she won't get
fired as she can't drive her car anymore.

You need help, but it isn't plastic surgery

This is for Lisa.  You need Dr. Phil's help, not that of a plastic surgeon.  I have seen women who have had face lifts and they all look so fake.  You can always tell when a person has had one.  People in your category are egotistic, think of themselves only.  Your poor husband.  He deserves a jeweled crown to put up with the likes of you.

cat lady

Quote From: lexgabella

I think that picture (I've only read the story, I haven't watched) was the 'cat lady' who was having a whole bunch of surgery so she could look like a cat cuz her husband loves cats. Dr. Phil showed her that to warn of the effects of cosmetic surgery. I had to roll my eyes at her rebuttle, tho. She said she didn't want to look like a cat, and she didn't do it for her husband... I'm sorry, most (not all) women are out to look good for either their own men, or men in general. For their approval, NOT ourselves. (again, not trying to generalize, I like to look good for me, but it's better when my husband digs it too!! Makes me feel sex-ay!!). So yeah, I think that's just the 'cat woman',not her daughter.
It was the 'cat lady'.  At any rate, anyone who goes to extremes to stay "young" by means of surgeries is totally unresponsible.  I wish I had her money.

Drunk driving

Why is everyone talking about the plastic surgery? yes, she could've and should've spent the money on her childernm but what about the lady driving drunk? maybe it just hits me harder because my family just lost two family friends because of a drunk driver. on new year's at 3:00 AM, they were driving home from a performance (Daniela was a flamenco/belly dancer and her husband, Pedro played the violin for her) and a drunk driver entered the westpark tollway (in Houston) the wrong way and ran into them. Their car flipped over and they were killed because of that. I can't go on the tollway without breaking down. It hurts so badly because had the man NOT been 3 times over the legal limit, Dani and Pedro would still be here, their family and friends wouldn't be suffering with the loss of such AMAZING, promising young people. Dani was only 22 and Pedro was 27. They'd only been married a year and a half. They had their whole lives ahead of them, and it sickens me to know their lives were stolen from them because of an idiot who decided he could drive drunk.

She was my dance teacher, my friend. He was the quiet, soft spoken violinst. He played SO beautifully, and I hate knowing that I'll never see him play again, and I'll never see her dance again.

Their familes didn't deserve this, they didn't deserve this. I can't even begin to imagine how much their familes are hurting. We're still doing our recital and at rehearsals, I've seen her mom break down and cry, I've come close to crying, my mom has... it's put this depressed mood over our studio. It's also brought us all closer together, though.

RIP DANI Y PEDRO OLIVARES

my 4 year old comments

I had the show on in the livingroom as I was working in the kitchen. My 4 year old walks by and looks at the TV and comments (on the last woman with the plastic surgery addiction) "mommy there's a spooky lady on TV!" I asked her what she was talking about and she said "she has poofy hair and big lips, come look she's spooky!" I just thought it was interesting that a 4 year old would pick on up her "fake" looks too.
