Hi,
My name is Lynette, and I'm in the "thumb" area in Michigan. I'm 40 years old, married for 15 years, and we have a 7 year old daughter. I would love to become a weight-loss buddy. The hardest part I think is getting started. I have been on many, many diets and weight-loss plans. All which haven't worked that well. My highest weight was 236 and I was considering the gastric bypass surgery. I went and spoke with the doctors, had my consultation, went for my phsychiatric evaluation, etc. It came down to setting up a surgery date. The nurses kept calling me to set the date. I wouldn't pick up the phone. At this time, my Dad had to go in for heart bypass surgery, and also, I had heard of a woman senator who died from the lap band proceedure. Even though I wasn't having that proceedure, it was still scary. Anyway, my Dads' nurse told me that the gastric bypass surgery was worse surgery than the surgery that my Dad had just gone through. I don't know if it was the recovery, or the things that could happen afterwards. Regardless, after hearing about deaths with the surgery, and/or complications, I decided against the surgery. I thought "I can do this on my own." Plus, I was just barely over the weight requirement for the surgery. My first step ~ I joined Curves. Also, I followed the Curves diet. Low & behold, I started losing the weight. Working out at Curves and watching what I ate was key. After my membership ended, so did my exercise routine. Some of the weight came back on, but not all of it. As of March 20, 2007, I joined Curves again and started a 1200 calorie/60 grams of carbs per day diet. Since then, I have lost a total of 16.25 inches, and 18 pounds. I am very proud of myself and feel wonderful. What helps me is, I write down everything that I eat, how many calories and carbs I have had, and then total it up at the end of the day. This really helps me stay on track. The key is, you need to set short-term goals. If you set long-term goals, you're bound to get discouraged because you want to see the weight come off in a hurry. The weight didn't go on in a hurry, so it'll take some time getting it off. My short-term goals that I set for myself are in 10 pound increments. It's hard getting started, I know. But once you start and start seeing results, you get gung-ho on your new way of eating and exercising...it makes you just want to stay with it.
So, with that said, I would be very happy to become a weight-loss buddy. Take care, & stay strong.
Lynette
