RE : Diet Cokes

If you choose the decaf diet cokes, that is better.  (See my post to Janet regarding caffeine).  However, you mentioned that you have had a problem with water retention.  29 years ago I had a pregnancy related disease called toxemia.  It causes the body to retain most of the water and becomes toxic in our systems.  The nurses at the time informed me that carbonated beverages also encourage our bodies to retain water.  And, I've noticed over the years since then that it seems to be true with me.  With that in mind, I'm wondering if you gave up your Diet Cokes you might just notice less swelling from water retention - something to keep an eye on - maybe?

That is tough....

You're probably not going to be happy with this info that I'm passing onto you - many others have ignored it and of course, it's your choice to do the same should you so desire. I have read in several places that caffeine prevents weight loss. Yes, sadly to say, it does. Caffeine increases our insulin level, and insulin not only prevents our fat cells from releasing the fat, but encourages the food we eat to go straight to the fat cells. At the time I learned this, I drank somewhere between 2-3 pots (yes pots) of coffee each day. It was not easy, but I did give it up. I now have 2cups of decaf coffee each morning. I honestly feel much better now than I did when I drank all that coffee.

Just giving you something to think about!

Love ya bunches!

Sharon

I need to figure a way to get more sleep or something...I have to have the caffiene to get it in gear and to do the afternoon pickup....I  know those are signs of a lack of sleep.....

Yes Sharon, I don't like to hear that...what a bummer.....LOL.....

Clients will be tripping over the lump in the studio....LOL...that's me.....

I saw your title saying "That is Tough" and have to admit that I started laughing!  I knew you wouldn't want to hear that!  LOL!  Like I said, it is completely your choice to do whatever you like with that information!

I have a tough lifestyle....

I need all the help I can to keep going at times.

I have always known caffiene is evil....the only time I don't have coffee is when I am really sick..that's the clue that I am sick.....LOL

As I sit sipping a gulp.....Diet Pepsi...LOL

How funny!  I'm that way too.  The last thing I want when I am sick is coffee and I love coffee - always have.  When I'm sick, I generally turn to decaf tea.

I said in my previous post that I drank 2 cups of decaf coffee in the mornings now.  For the past month or so, I've weaned myself off of the sugar that I put in it and have been using Splenda.  My hubby and I were talking about that over breakfast this morning and I was telling him that I have noticed that I get really thirsty after using Splenda in my coffee.  I've never liked the other artificial sweeteners and could never stick with using them.

Have you noticed getting really thirsty after drinking beverages with artificial sweeteners?  Just wondering if it's just me.  My hubby hasn't noticed it before, but unlike me, he has always been a big water drinker.

Sometimes I notice that too! I don't use sweetner in my coffee...I usually do it straight up...(again more power...LOL) That comes from working in studios with all guys where they want the coffee strong.....

Diet Sodas do not quench thirst...(Regular soda either for that matter)....I do a lot of outdoor work in rough weather conditions, it's either water or a sports drink....I have had a great passion for iced tea this summer....It has been abnormally warm here, so I think that may be it.......

I do sometimes make coffee 1/2 reg and 1/2 decaf....where I am now, I could get away with it and not lose body parts....(in a bad way, not a good way...not the ones I want to lose...LOL)

I noticed just last week that Folgers makes coffee grounds that are 1/2 and 1/2 - meaning half decaf and half regular.  I guess there are many people out there right now trying to wean themselves off of caffeine and warranted them packaging it that way.

Coffee snob...huh?  Oh my dear, I was a first class coffee snob.  I bought my beans and ground them myself, mixing together my own concoction.  Since I went to decaf, none of it tastes as good, so it no longer matters to me what brand I use - whether I buy the beans and grind them myself or a brand off the shelf.  I do occasionally miss it, but the benefits outweigh going back to regular coffee for me.

Hugs,

Sharon
