Dr. Phil goes inside the horrifying story of a 9-year-old boy who was allegedly held prisoner in his own home for three years. His father, Randall Piercy, is behind bars, charged with torturing his little son and locking him away from the rest of the world. Piercy says he’s a loving father, wrongly accused, but authorities found the boy in deplorable conditions: he was sitting on his bed in his underwear, his window was covered with paper, the light switch was taped over, and a soda bottle on the floor was filled with urine. Dr. Phil takes a firsthand look at the conditions the boy was living in, then sits down for a face-to-face interview with the alleged abuser and asks some hard questions. Piercy has two older sons, Josh and Jacob, who offer two widely divergent accounts of what went on in the family home. When the father and both sons are asked to take a lie detector test, who appears to be telling the truth, and who declines to submit to the test at all? Is justice served with Piercy behind bars, or is this a simple case of an overprotective father taking measures to protect his son? Share your thoughts here.

Both

Quote From: cocabov

Does it seem to anyone else that the son that didn't think his father was in the wrong really seemed to think everything was on the level?  Maybe the father raised him to think this was normal.  I had a strange slightly abusive childhood and now that I am in my thirties, I realize things I really thought of as normal was completely abnormal.  Or do you think he was purposely covering?

I think it's both, but I don't know why he would want to cover for his father.

Your remarks are offensive and ignorant

Quote From: bomork

the brother was sitting there with an"earring" in his left ear...what this his "calling" card?

To the poster called .....   bomork

Your remarks here are offensive and ignorant.

Earrings worn are normal....like wearing a watch or a ring....or several rings.

It's a style of dressing.

Earrings are normal.

Your implications in your posts  are not acceptable nor okay.

I see from your profile you're a senior citizen, .......my mother is a senior citizen and she has some grandson's that wear an earring, and she really likes the style.

As I said earlier, your remarks are offensive...and uncalled for.

omg the chills and boiling blood!

i think the reason the one son is agreeing with dad is because dad is a sociopath and he spawned another little sociopath! the boy is so eerie and scary i guarantee he will do something demonic as well, to someone else. I also believe the father was himself sexually abusing the 9 year old thats why he was sheltered so he could.  and the issue of locking him in to keep him from the creek is croak cause he could have put the lock on the door to the creek!  Inexcusable!

makes my blood boil!

*Dr. Phil Prime Time Special: Caged

Quote From: lucylooo

If either of your parents is still alive, you can still have them charged with child abuse. You have your back injuries as evidence.

No they are both gone now. Plus here in Canada is much harder to sue. If you don't have a retainer upfront for the lawyer, it's like don't let the door slam behind you. Sad system eh.

Anyhow I hope they both rot in you know where.

But thanks for trying to help.

Wake up !

Quote From: reklisammy

i want to start by saying that i do not condone what this man has done, but lets think about this.  First off there are some things that may or may not be true here.  The cage that the boy was kept it sounds more like a homemade playpen, and i know the child being 3 or 4 would be a little old, but what if this boy really did have problems and did leave his room and they did find him in the middle of the night in the middle of the river?  What would you do to keep your child in bed, i mean lets face it not everyone can keep control of their children and that does not necessarily make them a bad parent.   He should have taken some steps and tried to not do everything on his own, but by watching this special i am not convinced this man is all bad.  This special had a spin on it to make the father look bad, and again i am not condoning locking a child in his room so he did not get our and leave the house--maybe they should have sent him to an institution and let someone else deal with there problem at least that way when he was locked in a room it would be in a big white building being done by people that are certified to lock children in their rooms.  What i am really saying is that i don't think that we have enough information here to make accusations that this father is a terrible child abuser.

Wake up !

Watch the show again.

How much evidence do you want.

That poor kid was probably rebelling or standing up to or  against his father's abuse.

Obviously you didn't listen to what was being said by family members and what police and the authorities found.

3 years for God's sake.

No schooling, no doctors, no dentist.....nothing.

Abuse, Abuse, Abuse.

Did you really believe all the liars in this household.

And that grandmother....doesn't she know her son is abusing the entire family.

Where oh where did Randall learn that this behavior of any sort is the way to do things.....bull, this is Abuse all the way around.

This family has been abused..by the father .....she's

Quote From: lucylooo

The most amazing thing about this whole story to me is, while you didn't know what was happening Randy's wife did. They both decided together to put this little boy in a cage. How does that happen? That two adults can come to an agreement about such an attrocity? It's not even like they decided to lock him in his room one day, and then, they did it more and more, and then it was 3 years. No, they actually BUILT a cage, for him.

This family has been abused by the father....she, the wife is either scared to death of the

husband or she's as evil as he is.

This is heinous.

I wouldn't doubt it was fear. If you read my other post one can see it was in my case.

Bottom line, now that poor child is out of that horrible position thank goodness. I hope they are getting help for him which he truly needs.

"What i am really saying is that i don't think that we have enough information here to make accusations that this father is a terrible child abuser."

Thank you for bringing up this extremely important point. We must NEVER lose sight of the fact that in the United States we are PRESUMED INNOCENT until tried in a court of law. This concept is covered in several provisions of OUR CONSTITUTION, like the RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT and to be given a TRIAL BY A JURY OF OUR PEERS.

Some people here seem to be making a rush to judgement based on what was certainly a heartbreaking situation for all concerned. As a parent I am horrified at the possibility that these parents could have perpetrated such heinous acts upon their own flesh and blood. While I do lean towards the guilty side, I refuse to draw a conclusion until justice has been served. And, I pray, not only for the victims in this family, but for someone to come forward and absorb the legal costs for the Defendants so that they truly do have a FAIR trial. Despite my altruistic ramblings, I am also aware of the fact that money makes a difference in the "fairness" of a trial's outcome.

Again, I thank you for raising this most important issue. I thought for sure I'd be a lone voice "crying in the wilderness".
