Trying to Quit Smoking?

Quote From: manomania

finally it seems like people starting to wind down and find the time to post again.
my new job takes the best out of me right know, but that's what i need.
monday is my first day of roasting coffee on my own. by the end of the week my teacher takes of to europe. so by then i have to figure out not to burn the beans.
the somewhat bad side effect. drinking and tasting all that coffe gives me the tickles to have a drag of a smoke.
good thing that is no way to smoke on the job or on the property!
keep your stick on the ice!
mario

Hi Mario;

Just keep in mind how much better the coffee tastes now that you do not smoke.  Everything tastes a whole lot better if you don't smoke.  I'll bet that you got that job for the simple fact that you are a none smoker.  Those smoking thoughts you are having are just in passing and they will not stay.  Hang in there and keep on keeping on!

Hey Everyone

Aggie!!!!!!! I am so happy to see you are here. Heard a rumor that you were not going to come back. So glad you did. Well once again today was not my day.....I know you are as sick of hearing that as I am of saying it.....no excuses except that I suck.

It is a constant in my mind.....I actually just smoked a pack of 20 in one day!!!!! it's disgusting. So I have none left and I am going to make it through the night without going to get some....and then tomorrow I will make it to work without buying some and then after that I will make it home from work without buying some. Remember that move "What about Bob?" baby steps.

I just gave my three year old a bath in his kiddie pool because that is what he wanted and I was not about to argue!!!!!!!!!!! Just waiting for the younger one to wake up so I can clean him too!!!!!

Here I go again!!!!

Should we call you Nancy?

Quote From: annpar55

it's so good to hear from you..please do not beat up on yourself..I try to imagine myself with your load, two small kids and now a job..I had no idea you were considering being a police officer..how cool..for about ten years when I worked for the government I was the in the Federal law enforcement field.  Although I was not an agent, I was their secretary and really respected their dedication and how hard they worked..I wish you well..I was thinking myself about taking a course at our local vo tech to get qualified to take the CLEET exam..it's an exam to qualify for security guard or private investigator..I've always had a 'little Nancy Drew" in me..I read her books as a child and I still prefer mysteries to anything else..I am so proud of you for trying to lay them down again..I'm still procrastinating..but will give it a whirl..please, do not call yourself a bad friend..you are a great friend and great friends do not have to constantly be in touch, we know where your heart is..love to you and to all our board roomies..love, Ann

Hey Ann,

Thanks for the support!!!! I am actually not going to be a police officer, although that was my childhood dream....I work for a company licensed by the federal ministry and the chiefs of police to administer the testing to potential cops.

I think you should go be a P.I......lots of money in it for women!!!! I bet you'd be good at it....just no stake outs!!!! too much of a temptation to smoke.

Lots of love

quitting again

Hello everyone. First time posting for me. All I can say is " Dr. Phil is great" His books are helping me get my life back on track. Thank you Doc! Anyway, I am quitting again. I have been trying for about 6 months now. One time I quit for 2 weeks. It is so hard, but I will be a non-smoker. I am determined. I need some hints folks. I smoke about a pack a day, sometime a bit more. I hate it. It controls me and I hate it so much. The patch has helped me in the past, but obviously I need something better because I keep lighting up. ( Is there any health issues related to overdosing on sunflower seeds?) Just kidding, those help too.  Any advice would be appreciated.

I had quit for about 4 months and then started again....I have been struggling ever since. You and I both know as smokers, that they will control us until we take back the control. I am officially going to do it again.

I know Mario chewed sugarless gum...this time my plan is to eat air popped pop corn, last time I gained a ton of weight and am determined to quit without packing it on. Just get your mind set and do it one minute at a time. Soon enough it will be a couple of days and you won't have the strong cravings anymore.

Best of luck Ron....you have come to a good site for support....although our numbers are small. we genuinely care about one another.

Hi Ron!

Hi Ron;   You just have to keep in mind that a lot of people did not manage to quit smoking their first time attempt at it.  You also have to remember that nicotine is a terrible, powerful drug. Each day you do not smoke, you are giving your lungs a break from all that pollution.  Try to stay away from people who smoke and where you know that there will be smoking.  I know that this is very hard to do as smokers only know at lot of other smokers. If you drink coffee and have a cigarette with it, try drinking orange juice instead.  You will probably have to for-go all those activities that you associate with smoking.  Keep in mind that all this will not be permanent but only until you get a handle on the smoking.  There is no feeling like the one of being able to say, "I am a non smoker".  There is such a satisfaction in knowing that you have managed to quit smoking.  It's the greatest feeling ever!  So welcome to the group, post often and we are all here to help you.  Have a great day and keep on keeping on.    Aggie Six months, five days, 23 hours, 19 minutes and 33 seconds. 4674 cigarettes not smoked, saving $1,869.30.
