Hi Linda

Hi Linda,

I must say that after I wrote my last message my girlfriend had came by for a visit which I haven't seen much of her lately. Yes well as our conversation went on she smoked and smoked it bothered me a little bit a first then it was just man your smoking a lot. I used to be right there with her though. I laughed when I read your message about your throat hurting the next day. I forgot about that part. Oh yeah that pain was awful throat and chest.

Good for your son on making it as far as he did with the baseball. It's all about the fun. Some parents get so competitive and the children are the ones who pay. Out here hockey is the worse. I guess parents get pretty brutal. Lots of fights and parents kicked out of the arena. Amazes me.

A gambling cruise how fun that sounds. I bet the smell was just awful. Yeah I would be almost mad too when someone who say a comment about the smell especially if I was outside but before I quit it started to become guilt I felt really bad.

Sometimes I feel that people go through some of the horrible things in life to help others. And I must say you have helped me if it wasn't for you and some of the others here I probably would have started up again. I have read others posts too from other people there has been many that you have helped. Thank you.

smoke free

Hi, new here to the Dr. Phil thing.  I have been smoke free for, I beleive, 10 months.  It also took that same amount of time, 10 months, to get to that point.  My message being to those who are trying to quit, it may take awhile.  You may get discouraged, but keep trying.  I will admit, even to this day, I think about it and wonder if there will ever come a day that I don't.  Even so, I never act upon it.  To get to this point is a big deal.  Really, keep at it.  Don't give in.  It's ok, I think, to relapse here and there, but don't consider that failing.  Get right back in the game again.  You'll get it right sooner or later.  Love to all!!!

Hi Beverly,

How are you? You are probably at a little over 3 months now of not smoking. What an accomplishment.

Well school will be starting up shortly, Aug.16, for us. So about 3 more weeks of summer !!!  When does school start up for you guys?

Painted our game room (hubby and I), actually, hubby's hunting game room, sheep, deer and exotic animals, he's a hunter. Turned out good. Sometimes you are not sure of colors till you put them on the wall and they dry. Needless to say it's a tobacco brown (like the leaves on a cigar), on the brownish gold side with a touch of olive.

Hubby is back at work, vacation is over. The message boards are on the quite side during the summer. Wonder how everyone is.

Well hope all is well.

Hi Carrie

You said a lot in your posting !!! Great job 10 months !!!! How true about not giving up, and keep trying, everyone is different in their dealing with their addiction in smoking. But the one common goal is the desire to quit. For myself it has been a little over a year, and yes I do think about it more than I like to, but never to the point of wanting to cross that line. Did that before, and it was doubly hard the next time. Great job on your posting, that will lift some spirits on wanting to try again in quitting.

Hi Linda

Hi Linda,

I have been doing good. Sounds like your doing good. The color you picked sounds perfect for a hunting game room. The children go back on Aug. 31 they got another month still to go or more like I got another month to go (smile). Summer sometimes can be so exhausting with trying to keep the kids from doing anything other than sitting in the house watching TV and playing video games. The days here can be pretty long with not getting dark till around 11pm. The time goes sometimes than oops you look at the clock and it is pretty late.

For smoking doing pretty good. I was pretty tempted about a week or two ago. I mean ready to give up and smoke again or get on some Prozac (just kidding). It did get a bit bad. Then I had to figure out what was triggering it and I did. Got easier after figuring out what it was. Boy is this a battle. You can go from doing phenomenal to wanting to just give it up. Staying strong. I am now at three months.

I am glad to hear from you. And it is pretty quiet here. Take care of yourself.

I quit 2 days ago and having a hard time

I probably smoked 2-3 packs a day for I dont know how many years and I decided this week I'm going to do it. I started smoking when I was 13 and am 46 now.I know how nicotine and caffine go together so I had to give up caffeine first. for the past 3 months I have been drinking diet right which is caffeine free and have a caffeinated pop about 3 time a week. big change.

Tuesday evening was the last full cigarette I smoked. I have been cheating and smoking butts to get a puff but I just threw them out side in the garbage. so when is actually my quit date? I now got to do it. I have sucluded myself and my kids are gone to camp this week so i dont yell at them. My pizza hut just started delivery yesterday so I had a pizza delivered. If I make it through tommorow I have another challenge. I have a family reunion to go to and it is a 3 hour trip. and my car might not go with out a cig in my hand. never tried it yet.

Way to go.  Sounds like you are doing a good job so far.  You really got to fight.  I will tell you that I had a hard time in my car also.  I wanted one most while in the car.  Also, with coffee.  First thing in the morning.  I found I had to change my routine.  Like you, cutting back on caffeine.  It's not just stopping smoking that has to be done, it's a whole lifestyle change.  My suggestion, in the car, is to take a bag or two of twizzlers.  They helped me some while I was trying to quit.  It's been over 10 months now that I haven't smoked.  It took 10 months to finally. completely quit.  I just could not let go of it.  Anyway, the twizzler's are a fat free food and they give you that something in your hand and mouth like a cigarette.  That was also a problem for me.  Not having something in my hands.  Well, I'm over all that now.  I never thought I would stop.  It is possible.  I'm back to drinking my coffee in the morning and not wishing I had a smoke with it.  I can drive anywhere and not want one.  It's a great feeling.  Send me a message anytime if you feel you need to.  I will help if I can.  Good luck! Carrie

I fell off for a day

It was a 4 hour car ride and I was doing good till a cop came up fast behind me then stqayed on my tail for ten minutes. I told my daughter to give me a cigarette. then the next stop we made I bought a pack and I gave it to her to control. I ended up smoking a half a pack that day. then came home and haven't smoked since. So I dont know if I should change my meter or not. I am staying sucluded to not have the temptation.
