Hi Linda

Hi Linda,

So nice to hear from you. I haven't been on the board much lately myself. I have been busy with my kids and other peoples kid. I got stuck with my son's friend for over a week and after that I had my 3 nieces for a week. I am now tired of kids (smile). Fun summer. I have my other niece and nephew this weekend. They are much older. Me and my husband went to visit his sister and some friends in a town about 3 hours away. I spent the weekend surrounded by 5 people who smoked (a lot). I must say at first I was seriously craving it then past quickly and like you said the smell really does change. I began to get very nauseated from the smell. I survived that weekend. I survived the weeks with the kids (barely). Boy I had days.

My son had his first football tournament yesterday. His team did an awesome job they have really good positive coaches. My husband is a coach for the pee-wee football team here in town. He hides that he is a smoker because he doesn't want the kids to know that he smokes.  He is also seriously wanting to quit and get back into shape to tryout for local football team next year. I think that is what he will need to want to quit smoking and stick with it. I am hoping that I can help him to plan out his quitting. Let it be his own choice when he is ready. I don't want to push it.

Here we pretty much have the same ban on smoking just recently a few years ago. No smoking in public places. Exception are bars and nightclubs.

Good for you on getting school shopping out of the way. I for some reason am a last minute fool. I always say will start early but don't. I actually heard on the radio news someone from Texas talking about the strict dress code that was coming into effect. I would love it too. How much easier. Were not there yet. Hopefully soon.

Good hearing from you. Take care.Yes almost 4 months!!!! I guess if I wait about 15 mins.

Hi,

I got a prescription for Wellbrutrin (it takes the edge off of quitting, you have to be on it about 2 weeks).

Then a nicotine inhaler, some people use the gum or patches, it is to get you over the rough times.

Then pick a "quit date".

And come and post on the board your progress, your ups and downs. You will get your strength from other smokers that have quit.

And my lesson "don't ever have just one". For me I would have to start all back over. And that was so hard.

Till I followed those steps I was not very successful. Now I'm over a year....yippee !!!!!

I hope I have helped you in understanding that you are dealing with an addiction that is so powerful.

Linda

Trying to quit smoking once again. Shortie 78 - Hi - The patch does work. But you have to believe and have faith in them. I quite for almost 2 yrs before I started again. Had no real support and I got complacent. Here I am again trying to quit four yrs. later. I had a lot of faith in the patches and they did work for awhile, but I wasn't very careful about being around smoke when I didn't have to be. You mentioned side effects. Sounds like nicotine withdrawal. I'm going to finish these last few cigs. and then it is back to the patch. People are constantly asking me why I'm out of breath and I'm tired of having to breathe so hard. Keep the faith and good luck. Let me know how you're doing. I'll be here for support.  GOOD LUCK

Sharon

QUITTING COLD TURKEY

Hi Everyone and HUGE congrats to those who have quit smoking! You are my idols!

I am 50, have been smoking 30 years and am quitting FOR GOOD on Sept 1, COLD TURKEY!! Had a health scare but have wanted to quit anyway.......

I found a great site (it is called Freedom something, don't have the exact address).......they say that "relapse is NOT an option" and you are not permitted to join the site til you have been smoke-free for 72 hrs.........I love that idea, that is a challenge to me...........they have wonderful literature on that site. Also you are not allowed to use ANY aids that have nicotine in them because that just prolongs the challenge of quitting smoking. They have wonderful tips to help us all quit.........I am actually EXCITED for the first time ever at the prospect of quitting smoking!

also there is a new drug on the market that was just approved by the FDA 2 weeks ago called chantix which is supposed to have a high success rate, it is not an antidepressant and it contains NO NICOTINE. Unfortunately I cannot take it because I have kidney issues..........it is supposed make cigarettes repulsive.

If anyone is in the Farmington Hills Michigan area and wants to start a group with me to help myself and others quit smoking I am HUGELY interested!!!! Any feedback is most welcome! My love to you all and I am excited that I will be joining all of you who are so strong to have quit already. I want to be right with you! Caren

Who else is still posting?
